a guild of my very own?

hello mates it's me the friendly forum dog! I am wanting to create my own guild with my lower level pirate Dog O'fury and would like ideas and advice on how to run it so it is successful and help me with ideas for names. I have been a GM before but it didn't work out for various reasons mainly because I had to stop playing for a long time. but I have learned now what I did wrong and I believe I know now how to run it better than before. anyway please comment and give me ideas! thanks in advance =)

ps give me some rum and a milk bone plz!!!

There's a guide I made. Should be a lot of help Doggy! :D

Dog Gunmorgan 01-30-2011 11:57 PM

thanks mate!
that is very helpful!

Captain Del 01-31-2011 02:20 AM

First off, kudos to you for deciding to take on the challenge of becoming a Guildmaster :)

To prevent myself from writing an extremely long and complex, and to prevent you from potentially getting lost in my words, I'll direct you to a post I made on my blog, describing how I run my guild - located right, here.

Again, best of luck to you in your upcoming Guildmastership. If you have more specific questions to ask, feel free to send me a PM. :)

Dog Gunmorgan 01-31-2011 03:55 AM

thanks Del! that is quite helpful I believe I am ready to start it but I need a name and I'm having trouble thinking of one... I would like to have it be like a sister guild to SS and maybe even have the other pirates of some of the SS members to be my senior staff so to speak that way I know they are loyal and are going to be respectful and stuff like that. please help me brainstorm names everyone! I would like to create it sometime in the next week or so.

Machazzard 01-31-2011 04:05 AM

Night Hounds.
Shadow Stalkers.
Night Prowlers.
Dog's of Fury
Who Let the Dogs Out

hahaha just a few ideas based on your name.

Dog Gunmorgan 01-31-2011 04:13 AM

lol thanks I will consider those. anybody else? NOTE: the pirate I will be creating the guild with is Dog o'fury not Dog gunmorgan

Countainer7b 01-31-2011 04:18 AM

well i have a bit of experience in the early guild (i wrote a guide (that you can read here http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/f...ad.php?t=17964) and have one additional pice of advise don't build a guild based on your presence. that is if every one depends on you being there constantly. Create a guild that is dependent on interaction between members because if you leave for even a few days the whole thing can collapse. in my experience it is the number one reason that a guild with a good GM fails.

P.S. you might want to change the name of the S.S. (it might be confuse with the Schutzstaffel (who were in charge of the concentration camps during WWII)

Captain Sharktooth 01-31-2011 04:19 AM

First off good luck with your guild Dog! I have been GM twice and I have failed miserably.... Mostly all noobs, but now my brother started Elite Ones and we are on the leaderboards daily. I have some tips that might work depending on from how you take it. Some may like it some will not.

First, quality over quantity is very important. But first, we usually guilded every guild less person we saw, no matter what. :D By doing this, it allows some higher levels to join because some people like guilds that are huge, so it makes them happy that they have a guild with a lot of people in it. But when our guild gets active members, the GM will do a guild sweep. (This is just my opinion, and so far, it is working great.) Also, it is great to have rules and rank because it starts to stabilize your guild. Also, having some meetings and events help make your guild members active and friendly.

Last, best of luck puppy! :)

Dog Gunmorgan 01-31-2011 04:22 AM

thank you Sharky and I know what it is to fail I've tried it once before.

the SS stand for shadow sorcerers not Schutzstaffel lol and thanks for the tips =)

Countainer7b 01-31-2011 05:11 AM

first i thought it stood for senior staff second if you need help i know how to requite members that are willing to leave there guild and are active.

thanks mate I don't really want to take people out of their guilds... but maybe we could meet up in game and recruit some.

Countainer7b 01-31-2011 05:34 AM

i currently don't have a guild (the last one i started died and am currently looking for a new one)

Dog Gunmorgan 01-31-2011 07:03 PM

I just thought of something... in SS we all refer to O'fury as the puppy so for the guild name I was thinking of somthing to do with puppy... maybe puppy's pirates or something like that what do you all think about that name?

Captain Sharktooth 01-31-2011 10:01 PM

I usually like to have guild names that don't have my name in it, for reasons. But, it is your guild, so you do it however you like.

Dog Gunmorgan 01-31-2011 10:17 PM

well it's not really my name just my nickname... but I like the idea of the matching first letter know what I mean? example: the guild I tried to run long ago was called dog's daggers. It doesn't have to be puppy's pirates that just the first thing that popped into my head. I am open to suggestions... I may just go ahead and make the guild and use the forums here to help get it going and obviously I will be recruiting a lot but im trying to decide whether to start it or not before I have a name to submit.

SEAKING23 01-31-2011 10:27 PM

Puppy pirates? Makes you sound like a bunch of dog whispers with swords. how about the rabid dogs? Or the fangs? how about the navy eating mutts? Claws? anything about dogs that are scary would work.

Or you could choose the fuzz balls -_-

Dog Gunmorgan 01-31-2011 11:21 PM

lol fuzz balls?? thats funny! .... would definitely turn some heads. good suggestions keep them coming (i am taking them all into consideration.)

Countainer7b 01-31-2011 11:45 PM

well it would be a good idea if it weren't that the name would prevent more serious and older players. So my recommendation is that you base the name on what type of guild it is. if it a SvS guild it should reflect some thing on ships if it is a military stile guild the name of a miitary unit is not a bad idea. another thing if the name of the guild is your name it seams a thought the guild would revolve around you.

P.S dose the guild currently exist or not as I would like to join said guild.

Dog Gunmorgan 01-31-2011 11:51 PM

I am waiting to create the guild until I have a name for it. and what exactly are you refering to when you say it wouldn't be a good name??

Countainer7b 02-01-2011 12:05 AM

well i wouldn't take someone with the name puppy seriously same with a guild.

No guild name is ever a bad guild name, unless it is truly bad (i.e. inappropiate.)

What they are trying to suggest is choose a guild name that will fit the purpose of the guild. While all appropiate guild names are never really "bad," a guild name might be bad for the category of players you are trying to attract. For example, naming a hardcore PvP guild "Fudge Muffins Hooray" isn't exactly going to fit the bill.

Naming a guild is tricky. It has to both reflect you and your guild as what they are, while not DIRECTLY reflecting your guild (try to avoid naming your guild after yourself, like "Dog's Guild," "Dog's Pirates," etc. It tends to be a turn-off for many pirates.) I guess I kinda got the lucky end of the stick, seeing as my goal for naming my guild was just to make it as close to the old guild's name as possible.

Just ask yourself when naming a guild:

1. Who am I?
2. What should my guild stand for?
3. What kind of players do I want to attract?
4. How will my guild be presented?

Following that, you'll get a good idea of what you want to name your guild.

Of course, worst comes to worse, find a dictionary, tear out all the pages, and throw darts to see what words they land on. Not usually a preferred method, however, because I'm sure nobody wants to name their guild "Dissected Stretcher Requiem." ;)

Countainer7b 02-01-2011 12:19 AM

well thank you del but the dart thing might not end well also the naming the guild to the lowest common denominator isn't the worst idea offend no one and make sure people with speed chat can read it. It shouldn't reflect you much if you don't want it to revolve around you which is what killed my guild twice.

P.S. If you want the name conclave legion its all yours

Dog Gunmorgan 02-01-2011 12:31 AM

ok I guess I should've stated what I want the guild to be. not unlike SS or PNC I want my guild to have a close "family" atmosphere I want active members loyal officers/veterans NO drama (or as little as possible) and I want it to be fun for all the members while still keeping order and Puppy's pirates was not an option it was a example I was just saying I like the ryme to it like: puppy's pirates, shadow Sorcerors, and others...

Countainer7b 02-01-2011 12:38 AM

well don't ask me for help with a nonlogical name. i would have named the cell phone "portable devise for transmitting telephone signals through radio waves" not exactly catchy. If you need help with running the guild then ask me. ( i have a few innovative ideas about running a guild including a new system of deciding who to promote)

thanks but that particular thing I think it would be best if I figured it out my own way I am open to ideas... (PM them to me if you want) but ultimately I will have to come up with my own system for promotions and the like.

and Sharky I don't really think fudge muffins hooray would quite be appropriate LOL

SEAKING23 02-01-2011 12:50 AM

Well my guild is kinda cross between a family guild and a military guild. When we guild someone, we look for several things:

Can follow orders

Is a one man army

Nice

Just plain epic

We dont look for activeness much, i mean, we have 451 people and it gets crazy if we have 100 on at a time.

Our guild name, masters in swords, fits us perfectly.

For your guild i would suggest pirate brother hood. seeing as your a dog, maybe Blood and fur or bloody fangs inc.

Countainer7b 02-01-2011 12:51 AM

well if you did you would be one of the first. every guild on this forum still kicking uses the same system of promoting members. (i calling the conclave legion dead in this case)

Dog Gunmorgan 02-01-2011 12:59 AM

countainer I know its basicly the same for most guilds but there are small things that everybody does differently and besides I already have a pretty good idea what I am going to do with promotions.

and SEAKING those are good suggestions.. I actually might use one of them. thank you!

SEAKING23 02-01-2011 01:03 AM

lol, i'll keep them coming.

deadly mutts

fuzz balls of epicness

The milk bone warriors

The pwnage canneis

Infamous heart worms

Paws of glory

Cat pwners

epic canies

eitle dogs

Killer fuzz balls

dagger tails

The slobber heads

Like them? it was anything of the top of my head lol

I have a guild mate named named black cat two.. he's going to hate me for this lol

Ropeburn 02-01-2011 01:10 AM

If i were you... give officer-ness to the ones you TRUST

Dog Gunmorgan 02-01-2011 01:12 AM

LOL infamous heart worms? good one.... milkbone warriors is on my list too.

Captain Sharktooth 02-01-2011 01:12 AM

Also Dog, be sure to look around a lot on the other Guilds' threads because we all have great rules and ranks. and great ideas. And, for your rank system..... Because it might be good to expand beyond the normal Officer, Veteran, Member format. :)

:th_shark:

Dog Gunmorgan 02-01-2011 01:14 AM

I have been sneeking around on some guild threads looking at their rules... lol

SEAKING23 02-01-2011 01:15 AM

I can't wait till 'm GM of my guild.. i gotta change somethings lol.

Dog Gunmorgan 02-01-2011 01:18 AM

lol I might go ahead and make the guild tonight and submit one of those names... we'll see what happens.

Tiberius Fireskull 02-01-2011 02:48 AM

Dog, one more suggestion. When you choose the guild name, make sure it is one that people will take seriously. Funny names are good, but there is a point where it becomes too silly, and people won't take it seriously.

Dog Gunmorgan 02-01-2011 03:26 AM

LOL that is a great one it seems like I've seen it before though and Davy that is a great point and for that very reason I have already excluded a few of the suggestions.

Countainer7b 02-01-2011 04:05 AM

I think i have come up with the perfect name. The Pack. It symbolizes strength unity and community. In my opinion it is a cool name. It also hasn't been done yet.

so what do u think of the name

Dog Gunmorgan 02-01-2011 04:22 AM

I have made a new thread please go check it out and Countainer the pack is a good name and it is on my list for consideration.

WitchdoctorDan 02-01-2011 04:30 AM

Skull N' Milk Bones.
:D

Dog Gunmorgan 02-01-2011 05:25 AM

lol good one dan I'll keep that in mind
