Is there a way...?

Is there a way to cheat at all in tortuga hold'em? once there was a pot of 95 gold and i sliped a 3 card out of my sleeve and i won...then it said that the cards had been inspected and i was fined 100 gold and i got thrown in jail...wich really sucked....

DrStinglock 11-07-2007 01:14 AM

Yep, I do it a LOT at Del Fuego, or whatever that volcanic island is.

Read the previous topic about card swapping, it works, and its possible but its all a matter of chance. Last night I swapped a 10 of Hearts for a Full House and won 850Gold.

Just don't swap it for a card that is allready in play, and there is nothing else you can do, its just up to chance.

My odds of getting caught so far?

Caught Cheating / Got Away With it

2 / 8

Both times the cards got inspected at the end and I lost my winnings and got thrown in Jail.

If you want to get quick gold, like for a quest, bid right off the bat and keep doing it. Eventually the other person(s) will fold.

DrStinglock 11-07-2007 02:05 AM

That only works if nobody else has a good hand...

Make sure you have a few Aces up your sleeve, this always works for me..

Betting from the start and raising alot is good advice, just if you see a NPC raise you usually want to leave as they tend to bluff less.

Davy 11-07-2007 11:57 PM

NPCs will raise, then fold if you keep betting. If they do not, then you should fold, as they must have a killer hand.

back on topic, yes you can cheat but i am finding it pretty rare that i can get away with it. i pretty much have stopped trying cause i dont want to get caught. If you do try and have been winning make sure you stand up first so your winnings are yours, cause if you do get caught most of the time they take all your winnings since you sat down.

I have cheated about 8 times and never been caught (knock on wood). However, I did swap a card on two different occasions and then had that card come out on the board. I had no choice but to fold to avoid being caught. I usually try to know which cards I have in my pocket so I can swap quickly if I need to. Maybe the speed with which you make the swap plays a role in your success rate?

DrStinglock 11-14-2007 04:38 AM

Not that i'm aware of..

I have noticed a fair few players take a while to slide their card in, and I have stalled a few times myslef for a bit.. still hasnt failed/caught

Seems to have nothing to do with the time you take to swap..

Speedway Master 11-20-2007 06:26 AM

Just make sure your card doesn't match with other cards. I mean come on, if there's two of the same card with same number same suit, its obvious you cheated and go to jail. If your cheat card matches the cards on the table, be sure to leave! However, you can't tell if other npcs or players have the same cards as you.

Just by doing this, I won 16k of gold from poker at Padres Del Fuego today, leaving me with a total of 56k of gold.

Peggo 11-20-2007 02:57 PM

I don't know if it's been changed but some of the times I tried to use the cheat cards I got a message that the swap failed, but none of the dramatic going to jail and being fined stuff. I'm glad I've been warned now that this can happen now. I am being more careful now, with the cheat cards.
I do wish I could see what I havew before getting into the game. That countdown makes it hard to take notes on what I have.

yogurt_21 12-03-2007 06:11 AM

theres alittle spade emblem that rotates around the table that's independant of the blinds. every time i swap a card when it's on me, i get away with cheating, anytime I cheat when the emblems on someon else, i get caught.

kaylin 12-03-2007 08:39 AM

I have found that the NPC's usually fold in the first game pretty early on. After that, it gets more and more difficult getting them to fold. I just sit down and keep raising in my first game and hope they will fold. I always play in padres. I have won close to 1,000 gold, not even knowing what I'm doing! ;)

Eliza Shipwrecker 12-19-2007 02:41 AM

I'm glad I found this thread, because I didn't know you could get "caught" cheating and sent to jail. I just thought you tried to swap cards, and it either works or it fails. I've failed many more times that I've been successful swapping cards, but that's all. I find that the higher the stakes, the less likely my swap will be successful.

So what triggers the "inspection"? Putting a card into your hand that shows up on the table?

OutlawZ 12-19-2007 03:33 PM

The "little spade emblem" that goes around the dealer is the "button".
The virtual dealer.
Normally the deal passes around the table, and the dealer position determines where the Blinds are paid from.
Because the table uses a fixed dealer, we represent the "deal" position with a "spade button".

I don't see how this would affect whether you can cheat or not unless there is a bug in the game.

Obviously, don't cheat with a card that is already on the table...that does seem to be an easy way to get caught!

I have cheated and won mucho gold by using cheat cards...its not hard.

Only bad thing about 'swapping" cards is you lose your cheat card aswell as the card you swapped for!

Easiest way to win at Poker...forget the hassles of trying to use the cheat cards, be patient and just play the game. If you are not a good player, eventually you will learn the basics and start to win some money. If you are experienced, you will win often, because the computer players are fairly easy to read.

Watch for the "body tells', the computer players give themselves away all the time!!

If you play a cheat card, you will notice a slight delay at the end of the hand....I guess this is the inspection...sometimes play will just continue, sometimes you will be caught.

where can you find additional cards ?

i got a card by fighting a guard at random...is there a way to get cards regularly ?

OutlawZ 12-29-2007 10:40 PM

Cards come from many different "kills" (Soldiers and Undead)
and there is no control over that.

The only "regular" way to score a card
is to go see Black Mack (in the Rowdy Rooster) in Port Royal.

He will offer you a "win at poker" quest
and your reward is a playing card.

yea, how do you gt cards?
EDIT: oops i just read the post above me sorry :)

Maximvs 02-15-2008 02:43 PM

^ There is no "spot" to get cards at a regular pace (besides Outlaw's post) - I have found that higher enemy players carry better cards (I'm actually holdsing 68 cards at the moment, including a Royal Flush in hearts and diamonds - A, K, Q, J 10, and several other A's, K's and Q's). So a Cadet may give a 2 of diamonds, a Vet may give an 8 of spades or even a 10, but my best cards have come from really high enemies like Stumps (got my Aces from these guys), Padres Beach (The Gyps and Raiders have given me Kings / Queens) and anyone at Tormenta (have gotten several A, K, Q, and J here) - that, and flagships - for some reason I tend to get good mid-level cards on boarding boats (anywhere from 8 to J's).

And thats all I got... :)

There are also three card quests in the other tavern in Port Royal, that involve killing various levels of navy soldiers.

Davy 02-15-2008 06:01 PM

Aye, and there are also a couple in the Tortuga taverns - One, I think, is Johnny McVane, Bartender of King's Arm on the West side of Tortuga.

Silver Beard 02-15-2008 07:11 PM

Thanks everyone! Too bad I can't play Tortuga Hold'em now...:vsad: Mods, this is resolved, so if you want to close it...
