Animations For Avatars

Does anyone know how to use an animation for an avatar? And what can I use to make it? Thanks!

Nate Swordwalker 01-17-2011 03:48 AM

I have been trying to make some avvies lately, I just don't know what to use. I would like to know........

muffin pirate 01-17-2011 04:46 AM

Got GIMP? It's a free program (Linux-Based) that can be downloaded on all OS.

The website: gimp.org

Download: Hit the button that says DOWNLOAD.

How to animate 64x64 Avvies: Go to I think tools, Animate, the click an option.
It should give you another doucument. From there, on the new document, click Tools, Animation, the GIF Preview.

You then have you animated avvie...

Merci, MPO. Been trying to figure that out for a while.

Captain Jason 01-22-2011 08:51 PM

Thanks, I'll see if that works.

EDIT: I got it installed and everything, but how can I go to tools and then animate? I can't find tools and I don't know where I should look.

Filters>Animation

My Bad :)

It's on the top Jason.

Captain Jason 01-23-2011 03:56 AM

I fail I think. Okay, sorry about this, but if I'm looking at my desktop, what do I do exactly? Sorry, I can't find Filters or Tools, and when I do it isn't anything useful.

Does this help?

Captain Jason 01-23-2011 06:02 PM

For some reason, I can't open it. Not the filters thing, I mean the GIMP thing itself. It installed correctly as far as I know.

muffin pirate 01-26-2011 02:50 AM

Whats your OS?

Captain Jason 01-26-2011 06:17 PM

64 bit operating system. Windows 7 Home Premium.

Captain Sharktooth 01-27-2011 04:51 AM

Is there another program I can use besides GIMP? It won't open.... Please and thank you.

muffin pirate 01-27-2011 03:31 PM

FIrst of all it is unstable for Windows 7.

Second, I don't know any other programs besides GIMP & Photoshop...

Captain Jason 01-27-2011 07:12 PM

Adobe Photoshop? I think my computer has that.

Edit: Yeah, I just checked and I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0, and I also have Adobe Premier Elements 7.0. I can use those?

Captain Sharktooth 01-28-2011 04:20 AM

So my GIMP won't work so I have tried Photoshop. I used it, made a really cool image... I tried to upload it to POF, it said it was an invalid file, it wouldn't let me change the file type to anything.

muffin pirate 01-31-2011 02:22 AM

Photoshop is actually preferred.

GIMP is for those who don't have money to buy PS... LOL

Jason, PE is for video editing... Have fun with that. And Sharky, whats the file type?

Captain Jason 01-31-2011 03:37 AM

Okay, I made a slideshow type thing with Photoshop, but when I tried to upload it it said file invalid or something like that. It was a Windows Media Audio/Video file. Do I need to change that, and if so, how can I? By the way thanks for the help.

You can use Photoshop Elements. Not Premiere Elements.

Animated? Needs to be saved as a .GIF

Captain Jason 02-01-2011 06:57 AM

I tried changing it, but the only save option is WMF. What should I do?

muffin pirate 02-02-2011 05:01 PM

At the end of the file name, just manually type .GIF

And what did you use to make it? Premiere Elements or Photoshop?

Captain Jason 02-03-2011 01:03 AM

Photoshop like you said. When I try to type on it nothing happens. Do I need to change my settings or something?

muffin pirate 02-03-2011 01:42 AM

Can I get a screenshot maybe? Your case is very odd...

Captain Jason 02-03-2011 02:23 AM

Heres a picture, hope it helps. I know it's really small but I'm not sure how to make it bigger. (I accidently highlighted the wrong thing so don't pay any attention to it.)

Captain Sharktooth 02-03-2011 03:22 AM

Well, I actually got my Photoshop thing to work, so everything is good now :D

And you tried to save this POTCO Avatar as a .GIF in Photoshop?

Captain Jason 02-04-2011 02:27 AM

Yes, but when I tried the only option to save it as was WMV. I'll try again differently and see if it works.

EDIT: Tried it again, it didn't work that way either.

muffin pirate 02-04-2011 04:34 PM

How odd... Can't help ya anymore Jason. Its turning into one of those things where you have to be there... Sorry.

Gimp is easy (Allot of people use it and its free. I really like it)
If you want text animated: Make the text and size of your thing. Next. Go to
File>Save as. Save it as gif. And don't flatten Merge. Click- Save as animation.
Don't greyscale. Click save, It will take you a place, Just click save (Or do a comment) Then your done.
