Bane Shot or Venom Shot?

Which type of pistol ammo is beter - Bane Shot or Venom Shot? I have both, but I think Venom does more damage. Though Bane decreases the enemy damage, Venom is more usefl in my mind. Anyone have thoughts?

I use venom as the first shot and switch to bane, and depending on the circumstances, when the enemy has little red left, I'll switch to the first one. If he's high level I might shoot another venom when my first venom shot runs out.

i actually use neither! i have used all my skill points on maxing out the basic shot skills ( which has worked quite fine in defeating any wasp, crab or skeleton I have encountered as i have raised in levels and saved me some ammo costs). Not to brag but i was able to complete the Perida buried chest quest (which is protected by two terror wasps) solo using just these basic shot skills and not the venom or bane shots, I plan on using my additional skills ( when i get them) on some of the higher level shots.

Not sure isf this is the best way to go on all the weapon skills but it has worked fine so far for pistols

Thanks for the advice Pete, I followed it. Using just Lead Shot now.

I leveled 1 in each, they treat me well for grinding, as for overall character development, I haven't a clue. I am never good at building characters to be honest.

I have leveled my bane and venom shot to 3 and my basic shot is also leveled up. I really prefer using the bane shot on tougher enemies. Can get like -600+ life points to them in one shot! But that is just with the bane shot.

Not sure about the hex, I have it but haven't used it much yet. I think it will come in handy with the Undead Gypsies!

l personally think they both are great!

gain more rep

The best for voodoo is the HEH eater shot, 3-4 hex shots, then switch to regular lead shot and kill him off. Silver shot does not appear as good as Bane or Venom Shot.

BTW, I notice id you dont use the power meter for the take aim, you get more REP.... as in Gypsy killing, tap 3 or 4 Hex shots, and then tap lead shots once he has no voodoo.... dont hold the Ctrl or Mouse button, just quick shots.... I have gotten 100 rep doing that. Otherwise, I would get like 15 rep by high power lead using the take aim function on max.

I prefer the AIM Shot to either weapon, although it packs a slight amount of punch to add the specialty ammo.

Capt Squid - Is that using 3-4 (level 1? or Level 5?) Hex shot, then finish them off with the Lead shot? I wanted to make sure i understood that part.

Use 3 or 4 hex shots, however many it takes until the enemy has no voodoo left to hurt you with, then switch to basic lead shot and finish them off. You'll be able to tell when their voodoo is gone because you don't see anymore blue numbers coming off them.

I use one point in each of the ammo types to unlock them and get good results. (My other points are 5 in shoot, 3 take aim, 5 sharpshooter, 2 eagle eye)

3 Hex eaters on a gypsy seems to do the trick. Then switch to lead shot. Of course if this is the only thing you're fighting at the time, you're not taking any damage which means you regen health. It's better than a potion or spending 5 gp in the tavern for healing.

And if you have to turn away to deal with something else (like another gypsy or grenadier if you're on the beach at Padres) you can and still go back and finish the first one off. I have taken the vodoo off of 3 gypsies at a time and been able to kill them all off without needing more hex eater. Very helpful if you're helping someone else level... go around and neutralize the gypsies so they can get the points (and you still get some too).

The only thing to watch out for is to make sure you start with the right ammo. I can't how many times I tried to start the cycle with lead shot. Fortunately it is easily fixed even in grave shackles.

I'd get at least 1 point in Bane/venom. They help you get out in a tough bind, so be sure to stay stocked anyways!

Chris 03-15-2008 01:03 PM

i plan on putting 5/5 in lead 4/5 in venom and 5/5 in bane but thats just me

Carnage 03-17-2008 12:12 AM

I think Hex Eater is better.

Chris 03-17-2008 12:27 AM

i do like hex eater but i wouldnt max it bc right now im a lvl 18 pistol with 2 point hex and i can take away all the voodoo of a lvl 38 mollusk (highest voodee user in game) in 5-6 shots

But what about the other ammo types? Or using the points for the skills that improve all the ammos (take aim/sharpshooter/eagle eye)? True, 5 pts in lead will do good damage but only if you don't see the word "Miss" and I watched a friend of mine miss 5 shots in a row against a giant crab. Had he been alone he would have woken up in a cell.

My $0.02, your mileage may vary.
