Favorite Lines/PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 1

What is your favorite line from POTC?

Mine is "Yes... But why is the rum gone?!?" -Captain Jack Sparrow

Garfieldo 03-15-2007 04:59 AM

"He's a pirate."

- Elizabeth Swan

"Me? Im a dishonest man, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be...dishonest..Honestly. Its the honest ones you want to watch out for. Because you can never perdict when they're going to do something..incredibly..stupid!" --Jack Saprrow, to Barbossa.

ASuperStitch 03-15-2007 06:59 PM

Without a doubt mine is "I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your request"

JohnnyGunflint 03-15-2007 07:09 PM

Mines...

"Miss Turner, you best start believin' in ghost stories, 'cause yer in one!"

I'm not sure if that's word for word, because it's been a long time since I watched POTC:COTBP.

Hey Captain Skip, Who is Jake Sparrow? Is he Jack's evil twin? hehehe

Icecoolio, yep that is a great line. Actually there are an awful lot of great lines. Must have been a blast to be on the writer staff for these films. Bouncin everthing you could think of back and forth, would have loved to have been a fly on the wall listening to them work.

Yea, the writers must've worked for a looong time.

XSparrowxLoverX 03-15-2007 07:53 PM

"The only rules that really matter are these: what a man can do and what a man can't do. For instance, you can accept that your father was a pirate and a good man or you can't. But pirate is in your blood, boy, so you'll have to square with that some day. And me, for example, I can let you drown, but I can't bring this ship into Tortuga all by me onesies, savvy? So, can you sail under the command of a pirate, or can you not?" --Jack Sparrow

"Curse you for breathin' ya slack-jawed idiot. Mother's love. Jack. You should know better than to wake a man when he's sleepin'. Its bad luck." --Gibbs
"Fortunately, I know how to counter it; the man who did the waking buys the man who was sleeping a drink; the man who was sleeping drinks it while listening to a proposition from the man who did the waking." --Jack Sparrow
"Aye, that'll about do it" --Gibbs

"So you expect to leave me standing on some beach with nothing but a name and your word it's the one I need and watch you sail away on my ship?" --Barbossa
"No. I expect to leave you standing on some beach with absolutely no name at all, watching me sail away on my ship and then I'll shout the name back to you. Savvy?" --Jack Sparrow
"But that still leaves us with the problem of me standing on some beach with naught but a name and your word it's the one I need." --Barbossa
"Of the two of us I am the only one who hasn't committed mutiny, therefore my word is the one we'll be trusting. Although, I suppose I should be thanking you because in fact, if you hadn't betrayed me and left me to die, I would have an equal share in that curse same as you...... Funny ol' world, innit?" --Jack Sparrow

"Do us a favor... I know it's difficult for you... but please, stay here, and try not to do anything... stupid." --Jack Sparrow

"Stop blowing holes in my ship!" --Jack Sparrow

"We're going to steal a ship? That ship?" --Will Turner
"Commandeer. We're going to commandeer that ship. Nautical term." --Jack Sparrow

"Mr. Cotton. Do you have the courage and fortitude to follow orders and stay true in the face of danger and almost certain death?" --Jack Sparrow

A Classic

"Savvy?" --Jack Sparrow

"Why is the rum gone?" --Jack Sparrow

JohnnyGunflint 03-15-2007 08:19 PM

XSparrowxLoverX, that's quite a lot of phrases.
What, are you watching the movie as we speak?

XSparrowxLoverX 03-15-2007 08:22 PM

Pffftt..I watched it earlier...-coughs- Hehe..

Not my fault! I swear! I am so not a fan...-hides posters, action figures, pillow cases, and blankets-

Teehee?

It won't lemme get slower then 0.1 because when I set it one 0.2 the movement is choppy.

SuchALadyMaria 03-15-2007 11:39 PM

My favorite has always been:

Will Turner: Where's Elizabeth?

She's safe, just like I promised. She's all set to marry Norrington, just like she promised. And you get to die for her, just like you promised. So we're all men of our word really... except for, of course, Elizabeth, who is in fact, a woman. Jack Sparrow

Garfieldo 03-16-2007 12:03 AM

"Welcome to the Caribbean, love."

- Jack Sparrow

Yet another short quote I really liked.

Bo.Shwah 03-16-2007 02:01 AM

A really don't know which to pick as my favorite, perhaps that whole quote from Barbossa when he is speaking to Elizabeth Swan.

Mine too, hands down. I was thinking about making a signature that quote :)

Captain 03-20-2007 10:14 PM

-"How is it that two upstanding gentlemen such as yerselves did not warrant an invitation?"

-"Somebody's got to watch over the ship"

etc...

LOL I love this part of the movie. It really just sets who Jack is, even more than the scene with the Harbormaster.

Bellatrix 03-29-2007 02:09 AM

Hmm, I have many favorite quotes. I could
go on for ever with the lines I like. The quote
I use the most in real life is:

"Leverage, says you. I think I feel a change in the wind, says I."

- Gibbs

GagMaster 04-23-2007 06:35 PM

I have a jar of dirt I have a jar of dirt
Gueess whats inside

PrincessNicolle 04-23-2007 08:06 PM

"I love those moments. I like to wave at them as they pass by."
- Captain Jack Sparrow

and

"You know, these clothes do not flatter you at all. It should be a dress or nothing. I happen to have no dress in my cabin."
- Captain Jack Sparrow

Swash 05-25-2008 08:43 PM

this is the day you will all remember as the day you all almost caught captain jack sparrow

AdmiralSavvy 05-26-2008 01:02 AM

Capt. Jack Sparrow~I got a jar of dirt, I got a jar of dirt, and guess what's inside it!
But why is the rum gone?
Alas my children, this is the day that you will always remember as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow.
But you have heard of me.
I love those moments, I like to wave at them as they pass by.

Will Turner~No course is lost if there be one fool willing to fight.

Barbossa~Apple?

Captain Teague~ The code is the law.

Beckett~ It's just good business

Dirty Dingus Mcgee 06-01-2008 07:47 AM

Sparrowlover submitted this as a favorite quote:

"Curse you for breathin' ya slack-jawed idiot. Mother's love. Jack. You should know better than to wake a man when he's sleepin'. Its bad luck." --Gibbs
"Fortunately, I know how to counter it; the man who did the waking buys the man who was sleeping a drink; the man who was sleeping drinks it while listening to a proposition from the man who did the waking." --Jack Sparrow
"Aye, that'll about do it" --Gibbs

The line delivered by Gibbs at the end there is actually "Aye, then we better do it" if I am not mistaken

Tab1975 06-02-2008 09:19 PM

Mine is the one in my sig, as well as the line from Gov. Swann at the end of Curse of the Black Pearl - "Perhaps on the rare occasion pursuing the right course demands an act of piracy; piracy itself can be the right course."

Davy 06-07-2008 06:58 PM

Yer off the edge of the map, Jack. Here, thar be monsters!

Where Did All The Rum Go?

Bonnylass64 03-16-2009 09:35 PM

I like "Stop blowing holes in my ship!" I think of it every time I'm getting blasted by the enemy. Ugh. Leave my ship alone already!! lol

Juliana Maria 03-16-2009 10:49 PM

Couldn't choose so I put a whole bunch of quotes and some of my favorite scenes.. If you notice.. all of them have Jack in it. If you haven't guessed it already he is by far my favorite character in the movie!!!

Jack: A dishonest man you can always trust... honestly. It's the honest ones you ought to look at for. You never know when they're gonna do something incredibly... stupid <---so true!!:laughks2:

Jack : You seem somewhat familiar. Have I threatened you before?

Jack: The only rules that really matter are these; what a man can do and what a man can't do.

Jack : Mr. Cotton ? do you have the courage and fortitude to follow orders and stay true in the face of danger and almost certain death? Mr. Cotton ! Answer, man!
Gibbs : He's a mute, sir. Poor devil had his tongue cut out, so he trained the parrot to talk for him. No one's yet figured how.
Jack : Mr. Cotton 's... parrot. Same question.
Parrot: Wind in the sails! Wind in the sails!
Gibbs : Mostly, we figure, that means yes. <--- I love Mr. Cotton's Parrot:bird-vi:!! And Mr. Cotton isn't too bad himself LOL

Gibbs : No, no, no, no, no, it's frightful bad luck to bring a woman aboard, sir.
Jack : It'd be far worse not to have her.:skull:

Will : He roped a couple of sea turtles?
Gibbs : Aye, sea turtles.
Will : What did he use for rope?
Jack : Human hair.....from my back. <--- ewww always remember that scene for some reason ..

Jack : Of the two of us, I am the only one who hasn't committed mutiny, therefore, my word is the one we'll be trusting. Although..I suppose I should be thanking you because, in fact, if you hadn't betrayed me and left me to die, I would have an equal share in that curse, same as you. [bites into an apple] Funny ol' world, innit? [offers him an apple]

Jack : [to Barbossa] No one. He's no one. A distant cousin of my aunt's nephew twice removed. Lovely singing voice, though.

Jack : Not just the Spanish Main , love. The entire ocean. The entire world. Wherever we want to go, we'll go. That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails that's what a ship needs but what a ship is? what the Black Pearl really is? is freedom.:pirate_flag:

Jack : Well! I'm actually feeling rather good about this. I think we've all arrived at a very special place, eh? Spiritually? Ecumenically? Grammatically?

But my absolute favorite quote of Jack's is:

Jack: Now...... Bring me that horizon.:wheel:
