How do you get away with cheating?

Everytime I try to swap cards, the dealer inspects and I go to jail. I have never cheated and gotten away with it. I'm sure there must be a way, or it wouldnt be part of the game. Can anybody clue me in please?

Rattlebones 11-04-2007 11:05 PM

don't swap a cart already in play for starters.

Silly Princess 11-05-2007 12:05 AM

That's odd, I cheat every chance I have if the pot's big enough and I've never gotten caught. I've had it say "card swap failed" or something, but I've never been sent to jail.

Peggo 11-05-2007 01:05 AM

I've had the same card swap failed message too. Maybe it's changed?

VesNL 11-05-2007 01:07 AM

I cheated without even knowing what I was doing untill I used my 2nd card. Was pretty funny. I used it int he 40 gold win back game

HaveAMagicalDay 11-05-2007 01:56 AM

I've never been sent to jail, and the swap always works. Weird, I think it's a bug.

Well, thanks mates. I've never seen the "card swap failed" message, and I try to be careful not to swap for a card that's already in play (though I did try that once, too :pirate5:).

Im actually a little gun shy, now. Played last night and was too chicken to cheat after being thrown out on my rear end every time that I've tried. Not sure if I just have really bad luck (and eggs) or if my character is bugged and can't cheat. Either way, I guess I'll be an honest gambling pirate for a while.

Someone mentioned to me in the game (and it seemed to work for him) that if you leave the table before they can inspect the cards, you won't "get caught." But the "leave table" button disappears for me after I swap cards, so I don't know...

ScurvyCory 11-05-2007 08:44 PM

I have the same problem...

DrStinglock 11-06-2007 04:13 AM

I have had it all..

Been thrownout of a game for cheating; (Card wasn't in play, and I was about to win over 900g) You end up in Jail, with your winnings taken away from you, and the hand you were playing gets divided up amongst anyone at the table (even if you folded).

Won due to someone else cheating; I folded first hand, this other player was raising the pot and going with the NPC's and he cheated and got sent to jail, all the players including me (Who folded first hand) got aobut 150g each.

Got "Card Swap Failed"; Before I realised what it did, This happened when I tried to slide a card into play that was allready on the board

NOTE:
Cheating as far as I'm aware is not picked up on as you play, they find out at the end of the hand.

Plunderin Mom 11-06-2007 08:41 AM

Yeah, it's always been at the end of the hand for me, too.

Tried cheating again tonight, and again got caught. I give up. :zu02ol:

what does the spade emblem mean anyway? I always wonder when I play.

I have been thrown into jail for cheating a time or two...:laughks2: Don't ever swap for a card that is already on the table, the dealer will inspect your cards and find that there are two in the game and you've been caught. Oops.

I don't know a lot about poker anyway, so I just bid and hope for the best!

Gingerkitty 12-03-2007 09:09 PM

I sometimes try, but I never get caught. Lucky me... for once.

Pirate Rose 12-04-2007 02:34 AM

So I've tried this cheating thing a few times now. Most of the time it fails, I guess because someone else already has the card in their hand? But the few times it has been successful, I've stood up after winning the hand. Haven't been caught yet.... looks for wood to knock on...:cards:

The marker shows the 'virtual' dealer. Although the house does the actual dealing (to prevent *cough* cheating), you are not actually delaing the cards if the animation and tradition are to be beleived.

I only wish that when you 'swap' cards you would actually change the deck from that point onward and pocket the card you swapped out.

Instead you lose the card and only 'skew' the deck for that hand.

Too bad. I would like to take all those blackjack cheat cards (low numbers) and swap them out for face card and aces for high stakes poker. Oh well, guess they have to limit cheating somehow....

BTW, is it my imagination, or do you get the 'unable to swap' message more often when there is a live player in the opposition?

Also, as far as 'cheating' hve you noticed that some computer players have tells when they bet? I hope these do not apply for live player's avatars. Or at least, the tells go away once you are experienced (like the 'arrrrr' weans out of your chat once you get experienced.) That would be cool if your avatar gave away the goods but the chance of a tell gets cut in half everytime you win XXX gold. Eventually it would round down to zero, but until then....

If you plan on sneaking some cards in, my advice is to make sure you get up from the table once in a while, especially after winning a big hand. If you get up and sit back down, and then get caught cheating, they can only take the money from the last time you sat down. This should eliminate the possibility of the dealer confiscating a soul-crushing amount of money from you.

OutlawZ 12-05-2007 12:40 AM

The "tells" seem to appear for live players too.

I believe using a cheat card that is already in play (same suit)
almost surely guarantees you will be "caught"

other than that, it seems pretty random that some swaps fail or succeed
and sometimes the dealer checks the deck.
You will notice a pause at the end of gameplay, when the dealer "checks"...
leave the table at that point, before the cheat announcement is made.
then just sit back down again.
(seems to work for me)

Carnage 12-05-2007 02:48 AM

What Cards??? How Do I Swap??? Were Do I Get Them??

OutlawZ 12-05-2007 04:19 AM

LOL where have you been? LOL

There are a couple of minor "missions" where your "prize" will be a playing card.
Not to mention the cards you will "find" when defeating various undead throughout the game.

The cards are kept in your collection of "found" items and can be played in card games.
If you play Poker for example, you may notice the option to "swap 1st" or "2nd card" when checking, betting or folding.
This is how you get the chance to "play" a cheat card, if you have some.

Pay attention to the trinkets and "prizes" you find and earn during the game.
And to see all your cheat cards, at any one time, you will have to get into a card game, and use the "swap" card option to look through them.

Wow, it worked!!!! Woo hoo!

I have collected 43 cheat cards, because up to this point, every time I had tried to cheat I was thrown in jail. I gave up trying. I sat down, just to test your theory tonight, used a cheat card to win the hand, and then tensed up, waiting to be told the cards had been inspected...

I could not believe it said I had won X amount of gold and the dealer started redealing cards! I grabbed my kids hand (who was standing next to me) and yelled, "I won!... I can't believe it... I cheated and got away with it!" LOL.

So, maybe I got away with it because I was the dealer? I dont know. I did cheat again, next hand when I was not the dealer, and managed to get away with it again. I was just as surprised that time. I didnt stand up to leave the table after a win either time. Nor did I swap seats. Don't know if I just had a lucky seat or what...

Anyway, was fun to finally be able to use a couple of the cheat cards and get away with it. :)

Captain Squid 12-06-2007 05:29 AM

Be aware too... The count shown of the # of cards you have does not = the number of cards you have!!!

At the moment, I have 39 cheat cards. When I go to use them, I can count each suit.... 4+6+7+0=17 (not 39!!)

What gives?!? No SPADES!!! lol, also when you use 1 obviously the listed card cound goes down... I wonder how that will show up.... 12 cards left? and none in the game? maybe a bug.

Requiem 12-06-2007 05:34 AM

The reason that the counts are incorrect is that you can have multiples of the same cards. I can assure you that in my collection of well over 52, I still haven't collected a 'full deck'. It is unfortunate that there is no way to look at your collection of cards and quantities at this time.
