* Mac users can not launch the game. We are investigating this issue and will be releasing a fix as soon as possible.

Sadly there's no-one from Disney here on POF, so we cannot get a time range from anyone on when the issue will be resolved. All comes down to how quick they can find the error in the coding that is denying Macintosh users access and resolving it. :mickeypiratezd4:

Aliright thanks mate. i think i'll e-mail POTCO.

Jamesvsthekraken 12-16-2010 06:50 PM

I find this super annoying :( :/ -_-

The Skirata Clan 12-16-2010 07:12 PM

You guys need to get used to being castoff by Disney. They always mess up with us Mac users.

Jamesvsthekraken 12-16-2010 08:20 PM

I still don't get why it's taking them this long? :/

Jack I 12-17-2010 12:02 AM

You have to look at the actual issue at hand to understand why it's taking so long and put it into the perspective of a programmer. You're talking about a flaw in their coding that has locked out an ENTIRE operating system. It's not just a little bug, it is a pretty substantial issue that probably spans over a large system of source code. It can take some time to find and resolve such a large issue in the massive amount of coding that is Pirates of the Caribbean Online.

Also, while no one has brought it up yet either, I point out that the argument, "Well it's happened before, they should know how to fix it," is a moot point. While people are right that, yes, this seems to almost always happen when Disney does an update, they're still relatively new to handling MMORPGs in the programming of Macs and the issue is not always necessarily the same. It could take a whole day just to assess the entirety of the issue for the Disney staff.

Lastly, you should also take into account that the group working on POTCO is probably relatively small, maybe 30 people at most. Of that group of Disney Interactive working on POTCO, even a smaller group of those programmers are actual asked to work on debugging systems while the other group is with R&D planning new features.

Just give them some time. I realize it is a great inconvenience to some that you cannot play Pirates at the time, but the best thing you can do is just leave it be. Go read a book, watch TV, or something to get your mind off the issue and it will be fixed before you know it. :mickeypiratezd4:

I did send in a few bug reports to which I got the following reply:

Ahoy mate!

We're sorry to hear that you are having problems connecting to Pirates Online with your Mac.

With the release of the new Catalog system, an issue occurred where some Macs are not able to connect to the server at all. The Pirates team is aware of this issue and they hope to fix this very soon. Please try logging back again in a few hours.

Thank you very much for reporting this. Hope to see you on the high seas very soon!

Aye, I got the same email response.

SEAKING23 12-17-2010 01:04 AM

Kinda cheap, ain't it?

Jamesvsthekraken 12-17-2010 01:42 AM

Yeah, considering the mac users who are members and are paying for the game. -.- For goodness sake, can't disney do anything else other than saying "We're sorry, but log on in a few hours?" :( :/

SEAKING23 12-17-2010 01:50 AM

Mate didn't you read jacks post? besides, I just was in live chat, and they said there working hard to fix it.

Jamesvsthekraken 12-17-2010 02:42 AM

I did and they told me the same thing for two days now :/

SEAKING23 12-17-2010 02:46 AM

It's hard to make a game and maintain it. a guy that i know made a simple game 2-D where you doge flying rocks in a space ship. He's done with the game now, but it took him about a week to finish one level. I'm not sure how many levels he made, but if he made 5 it would take him a month and one week. imagine how long it could take to just repair a small thing in potco.

Thats what you get when you have morons who use automated messages. they have no personal touch, and for all we know Pirates will have the patch out Monday because the weekend will definitely be off time.

It's not like that wasn't expected though. I'm sure they're getting hundreds, if not, thousands of angry emails/bug reports from Mac users. Would you really try to address each one of those individually? I know I wouldn't!

Arg2448 12-22-2010 03:55 AM

ahoy mates i have a little idea that may help if you can run a verchual pc pick a windows op like xp vista or windows 7 that way you can play untill they make a fix / patch for this

swordshot 12-23-2010 02:09 PM

to that up there^ Do you know how much money they are? I wouldn't pay that money for a temporary computer!

Maps 12-24-2010 09:30 PM

He's talking about using a disk that has the OS of Vista or XP and using boot camp to download it onto your Mac, and basically make it so PC programs are compatible with a Mac.

Is the problem you're experiencing a "cannot connect to the server" issue? I was playing the other night for the first time, and I got on. I now am playing again and have come up with this strange error numerous times (yes, my internet connection is fine!). I'm going to be trying to uninstall Pirates and reinstall in order to attempt the same scenario as the other night where I had success in getting on. I'll be sure to post if this works.

Edit: Problem seems to have been solved by doing this. Good luck to all my fellow Mac users.
