Test Release Notes - November 23, 2010

Release Notes - November 23, 2010

* Updates:
o New Merchants have landed on Port Royal, Tortuga, Padres del Fuego and Cuba
o New Caves have been discovered in Raven's Cove with new high level enemies. Ye be warned!
o Fixed Quest related server crashes
o Removed the /coin emote. Heads and Tails functionality remains
o Guildmasters can transfer GM status to others

Davy_Mcwrecker 11-24-2010 01:02 AM

Why did they remove the coin!?!

RoseStormhara 11-24-2010 01:09 AM

Definitely excited about the merchants. Can't wait for that update to go live!

WitchdoctorDan 11-24-2010 01:10 AM

Nice. I like all these, 'cept the coin. That makes no sense to me, lest D screwed up a code...

JM Ohara 11-24-2010 03:16 AM

Why in the world remove the coin flipping?!

Jack Shipsteel 11-24-2010 03:19 AM

Coin Flipping.. gone? -crushes rum bottle in hand-

That's going to be missed, guess I'll have to resort to waiting impatiently...

Besides that, I feel like the rest of the update is a good thing. More clothes are always welcome, always looking for a place to fight enemies, and that new handing-of-the-reigns idea.. well, that will be useful.

Of course.. if you put in the wrong substitute leader...

titanic95594 11-24-2010 03:29 AM

Just why? I bet ALL Abassa Tortuga users are ranting on the coin when they saw that.

hmmm aww good to know there is nice ppl with pure minds really playing potco lol. disney removed it coz of the same reason they removed /bounce & /kneel, ppl were using /coin & /bounce & /kneel to take questionable screen shots. guess disney saw too many scandalous screen shots posted on photo bucket, x fire, tiny pic etc. using those emotes & red flags went up 'this sort of activity is not what potco advertises' or whatever. or maybe some parents caught their angelic kids messing with those emotes with/towards the avatar of the opposite gender & disney got too many complaints, who knows. i wouldn't be surprised, ive seen so many ppl that r around my lil sis's age acting up on that game taking those scandalous screenshots that even make me cringe, rofl, O_o like seriously rly, geez kids these day r like wow *shakes head* lol

Nelly Darkpaine 11-24-2010 04:22 AM

What can you make with a coin flip? I think thats the lesser of the emotes. =P Several years, and we have only a handful - now less. Things are moving more backwards than forwards.

Davy_Mcwrecker 11-24-2010 06:03 AM

Ya but Coin is the ONLY "cool-kid" emote for guys. girls have primp but we r left with sleep glare hips and dance. id like POTCO to rid of primp. see how u like pplz.

ppl must have gotten too smart with the animated flipping-coin-hand's movements, disney did try to fix the "bounciness" vertically of avatars for /coin a few months ago but guess disney still couldn't totally fix it to their satisfaction, so they got rid of it, sad. At least /coin & /bounce's removal got put into release notes, I remember how /kneel just stopped working 1 day, & it was NEVER announced they removed it from release notes, & everyone got upset & disney acts like that emote had never existed, guess they didnt want any more screenshots of /kneel showing up so they never announced its disappearance.

no i'm not one of those bad kids who was using /kneel inappropriately, *totally innocent* i dont have a single screenshot of that emote coz i thought it'd always be around, i just thought it was cute whenever ppl asked me 2 help them w/killing something or sinking something or whatever. haha my fave memory of /kneel was this 1 time 2 years ago (omg awwwwwwww has it been that long since that emote worked???!!!??!! lol i just remember that was when this certain particular leaderboard guild i was in was still active), i tped 2 a guildie & she had gotten crew/guildmates/friends to /kneel right b4 i landed coz she wanted me 2 sail the pearl 4 her bb (this was back when it was different/hard, nowadays i can take a lvl 1 sailing pirate & still win in green, not as good but almost as good as my mastered sailors's sailing). it was soooo cute rofl, of course i asked them 2 all get off their knees fast coz that was embarrassingly awkward since we were in a gun shop on a busy server & random ppl were running in & out.

there's only 1 more questionable emote that i think disney will try to reanimate coz ppl seem to like to abuse it as well, but knowing disney they'd prolly be removing it soon anyways =( yea i agree, seems like disney is moving backwards instead of forwards

if they got rid of /primp, idk what i'd do rofl, boycott potco?? rofl

Tiberius Fireskull 11-24-2010 06:06 AM

Getting rid of /coin is the biggest mistake they have made yet... its like getting rid of something perfect...

Nelly Darkpaine 11-24-2010 06:39 AM

Agreed - coin was the best emote. Every other 'static' emote is lame. I HATE primp.

PERSONAL SPACE is the issue, not the various emotes. All of the emotes can be used objectionably.

To improve server-side performance the removed the concept of personal space.

The correct fix, is to make the PERSONAL SPACE logic simply be client-side.

Attacking valid features instead, is pure malice...the current programming team must intentionally be TRYING to kill POTCO faster, to drive people to free games faster. Kinda like making lava stop flowing, or intentionally making skies ugly (yet never adding rain.)

As they say on some other forums when you agree with someone... THIS.

Eliza Creststeel 11-24-2010 03:33 PM

I totally agree on the bad emote/screenshot issue. It's disney's own fault for removing the personal zone around the pirate. I have stranger guy pirates all the time get WAAAAY to close cuz they want to get all snuggly for a screen pic.

Folks can be pervs, they will find a way. Give us back COIN.

titanic95594 11-24-2010 04:51 PM

^ Strong words.... Maybe the coin is bugged? Like if your still repairing on a ship and you flip a coin, you flip a hammer.

metal1081 11-24-2010 05:22 PM

coin has always been bugged with the new stuff coming in.. repair glitch u would flip a hammer, seen some friends flip their cutlass and grenade lol.. still it's is pretty stupid that they took it away

Davy Bluekidd 11-24-2010 05:41 PM

I'm going to miss the coin emotion, but like Eliza said, people use emotions for "other" purposes.:sadmh9:

Speedway Master 11-24-2010 05:57 PM

This thread has officially became the missing coin thread.

I'm more interested in the higher-leveled enemies.

Also, hooray for the Guildmaster transfer ability.

titanic95594 11-24-2010 06:05 PM

To me that GM tranfer thing is EXTREMELY risky.

JM Ohara 11-24-2010 07:51 PM

Yes and no. I know a fair few dying or dead guilds that could be/ could have been revived by a GM transfer. This is especially true of guilds with inactive GMs, but active members. That's one thing I'm very glad they added. To me, it looks like they are totally restructuring guilds, and IMHO, we needed that bad. Now if we just had a rank like Lieutenant, between Officer and GM, then guild structure would be all set. It's a good step I think.

Davy_Mcwrecker 11-24-2010 08:50 PM

yes yes but we r asking for updates to quickly, we will have to wait. the reason the removed the personal space is cuz pirates would push noobs into enimies & make 'em get thrown in jail or push 'em into other stuff too.

Those screenshots are taken by adult players. They have them on all the social sites too!

Chimera Doll 11-24-2010 11:01 PM

Thanks for posting this!
Sad to hear about the coin emote but maybe they will bring it back. Or better ones. Never know.
And super excited to hear about the clothes arriving finally! Downloading the updates on test now and gonna check it out. =)

You never used to play the undead pvp glitch. As for the rest of these updates, nothing to get me pumped up out of these updates. It is nice to see more clothing, but it means nothing really. The new cave is probably bland as well, just going to wait on something like the kraken or a grand catalog for weapons.

MacIronhawk 11-25-2010 02:00 AM

Honestly, I sold all of my old cloths and bought the new, purple clothing. I have to say, it's pretty dang amazing. And to think, new clothing monthly!

I wonder if this means you can only buy that set of clothing that month during that year? I sure hope not, and that five years from now we can go back to Jan 2011 and buy the clothing released then.

Crestshot 11-25-2010 03:22 AM

Well someone looks spiffy. I don't know if purple is your color though, Dog. haha. I'll admit, I'm kind of sad that the tricorn hat is back in stores; I was rather liking Lawrence being one of the only people left with it.

katbluedog 11-25-2010 04:03 AM

Very dangerous but useful.
Also, Speedway, I cannot seem to find the new higher level enemies, any luck on your end?:tg20:

Speedway Master 11-25-2010 07:53 AM

"New Caves have been discovered in Raven's Cove with new high level enemies. Ye be warned!"

False advertisement.

Then again, I do feel all queasy after coming back from Lego Universe.

James Bladefury 11-25-2010 03:53 PM

Since everything has a purpose... I guess these new caves will be very important. Maybe the location of Jolly Roger's Death?

Pretty sure Disney wouldn't ever make a cave or even a small little itty bitty place to show where Jolly died. They don't want what the fans want. They want their money.

titanic95594 11-25-2010 09:54 PM

Jolly Roger and Ravens Cove death? Don't think there is evidence to support that.

Doubt that, but that's just my opinion.

Anyways, I know a lot of people upset at how small Ravens Cove is, so maybe this is their way to... expand it?

Technically, it is not at all a false advertisement. They say high level enemies. High is technically a point of view. They are twisting the truth to make it sounds really great. If you are a level 10 or something, those are some high level enemies. Its all from your perspective. As for the "new" part, I dunno....

Nate Raidhawk 11-26-2010 12:45 AM

- sigh - I've never been so disappointed with an update. Two downs and one up. The clothing is wicked kewl, but COIN IS GONE??? And what's the point with the new caves? Apparently no new higher lvl enemies, and the area is SMALL. What is Disney thinking?

This cave, with no name and no mini map, is rather useless for the time being. Unless they are planning something to do with it, or an expansion.

Joshua Coalskull 11-26-2010 01:26 AM

My guess with the new cave is for players under lvl 30, to go and fight the Ghosts. To them who haven't got to 30 and made to the mines, this is there access to NEW enemies.

I second that. I posted it in the "Calling All Testers" thread, as well. :P

No Its Not. Back in the 1400's Spain Had Monarchs' which were like Kings and Queens.

the lion on the tattoo wore a CROWN so realy there is only 1 point for lions but 2 points for the crown so ya

Fail.......

The Evil Will Mcbain 11-30-2010 10:41 PM

do you realize that basics get like 2% of all the weapons that are out there? Give us a break. I'm now excited about this whole thing :)

Joshua Coalskull 11-30-2010 11:36 PM

You might be able to buy them eh? The real question is Can you wear them?

Crestshot 11-30-2010 11:55 PM

I honestly believe that's a bluff. If we can't buy anything else, why these clothes? Besides, if it is monthly, people will be more encouraged to buy unlimited because they know the clothes won't last forever (or at least that was my train of thought...).

Tiberius Fireskull 12-01-2010 12:53 AM

Wow Disney. Seriously, if your going to answer a question on the Grog Blog, answer it correctly. I hate to rant, but I'm really getting sick of their false answers. "Aye! They are for both unlimited and basic!" If new clothes = rare, and basics = only crude, then new clothes DO NOT EQUAL basics.

James Bladefury 12-01-2010 01:07 AM

Well that statement from disney is actually correct! If you guys remember, the pants for the treasure hunter outfit were crude. So dont tell me basics dont get to buy something.

Tiberius Fireskull 12-01-2010 01:08 AM

It was? Hmm, my bad. I haven't gone on test for a while. Forgive my mistake. :P

James Bladefury 12-01-2010 01:10 AM

I will post the screen when I find it!

pieisbetter2 12-01-2010 01:24 AM

Yup, the sack shorts r crude. just checked the wiki :D

EDIT: Turns out the shorts are only crude for the male outfit, the female outfit stuff is rare or common.

Captain Jason 12-04-2010 05:00 AM

Nothing, there weren't even any severe bugs when the released it on test the first day.

Davy_Mcwrecker 12-04-2010 05:53 AM

no idea i bet cha its the fact that by christmas we wll have the clothes for deember 2015

Dog Firestack 12-04-2010 12:07 PM

There are a few bugs like the images on the skill page aren't working correctly. I've also heard about people crashing when purchasing items.

SEAKING23 12-04-2010 05:37 PM

i think they're making new outfits, and maybe next week they shall come.

MacIronhawk 12-04-2010 06:35 PM

Well, about every other day they've been updating the new clothing. Right now you can view and buy April 2011's clothing. It's amazing by the way; I should know, I bought them.

Honestly, I don't understand why they're doing it monthly. It's a great scheme to keep people playing the game, because you'll have them be excited about what's next but... come on, that's too long of a wait for some people. Why not two sets of clothing a month instead of one? I sound really greedy right now, don't I?

Tiberius Fireskull 12-04-2010 08:26 PM

Actually Mac, not greedy enough. I think what they should do is release a new one every two weeks. Its a lot of work, but it may be worth it. If they run out of ideas they can always repeat old ones. And by the way, did Disney ever say that it would actually be monthly, or are we just assuming that?

Captain Jason 12-04-2010 11:07 PM

Not really assuming, considering that they are giving us a set for each month. They might add two sets for some months or something though.

Why are we talking clothes, weapons are what makes the pirate. Clothing is all show and tell, and these suits all look much too fancy for a pirate. I don't remember paying to play the game for a new suit each month or every other week for that matter. The idea of the game is to live the life of a carribbean pirate, but Big D can't even add eye patches into the game.

I would much rather see more weapons added into the game, or a sort of system to add stats to clothing. This update spawns a big fat 2 out of 10 for me.

SEAKING23 12-05-2010 07:17 PM

well pirates love to show off our wealth, and this lets us.

I love a good rant, but I think he may have been hinting at the new ability of basics to purchase clothing from the OLD merchants.

On test, basic pirates can buy all clothing now. Not just from the new merchants, but also from the old merchants. On test, basic pirates can purchase ANY crude clothing in any of the bland colors (no brights, darks nor blacks.) No more basics forced to run around in diapers.

Click the image to view the full version Click the image to view the full version

There is no explicit warning when you buy an item you can't wear, but those items do say "Unlimited Access Only" in the item description panel thing.

The new merchant system obviously took a lot of effort, but it sure could give better visuals when a purchase is completed. The original (old old old old original) merchant system showed what you had, a lot better. Buying 2 tonics shouldn't take 5 minutes of clicking around to see which one you missed...how about a "give me max of all tonics" button? Or a "repair all ships now dang it" button.

Even better would be a "one-click" button somewhere to buy maximum tonics, remedies, holy waters, elixirs, miracle waters, venom shot, bane shot, hex eater shot, silver shot, steel shot, asp, adder, sidewinder, viper's nest, stink pot, firebombs, smoke bombs, siege charges, chain shot, grape shot, firebrand, thunderbolt, explosive, fury AND repair all ships. Running around for ammo is interesting when you are new, but is a really annoying chore after a few thousand times. Maybe have that button appear only when you have over 120k gold?

200K and wealthy? That also makes this game a bit of a joke. We have nothing to buy, so gold is practically pointless.

ruisen2000 12-06-2010 05:22 PM

Well i was thinking that ammo should be way more expensive, and we could buy houses. the new ships/clothes wont hurt either.

I feel you on the ammo thing, but the game doesn't even require you to buy it anymore. It drops more ammo than it does gold in the game. I like the idea of not having to go back to the store, but it's ridiculous to get 23 rounds of venom shot after using 10.

On test, basic pirates can buy all clothing now. Not just from the new merchants, but also from the old merchants. On test, basic pirates can purchase ANY crude clothing in any of the bland colors (no brights, darks nor blacks.) No more basics forced to run around in diapers.

Maybe have that button appear only when you have over 120k gold?

so are there crude coats now?

i don't get how you can loot cannon balls from land. i think you should be able to loot very little cannon balls from ships, and every other type of ammo should be able to be plundered from the sea. land enemy's should only drop daggers/bullets. and they would be WAY more expensive. i mean, who buys a lighting cannon ball for 5 gold? they should cost at least 50 gold per shot, and double in invasions.

I do agree with SEAKING and Raikel. I almost never need to restock my ammo cuz I raid in in loot. The only time I ever need to restock is after a long sailing voyage or an invasion. Here is the thing though. As much as it makes sense to raise ammo prices, think about low levels. Many low levels do not have very much money to spend. If the prices were raised, they couldn't afford to buy ammo. It would cost them, what? 300 for bullets or knives? 700 for cannon ammo? Maybe 200-1000 gold to repair their ship, depending on their ship? As much as it would make sense, it would be far from ideal.

SEAKING23 12-07-2010 02:41 AM

Well low levels have well, low level ammo that would be cheap. if a low level went to restock everything, it should cost 200 gold. as for there ships, the light ships cost very little to repair. and if they need money, they can go get some gold by heading out to sea on a war galleon. that would help them get started. plus, it would make it so you would have to manage your money smart.

Tiberius Fireskull 12-07-2010 02:44 AM

SEAKING, how easy is it for a low level to find someone on a War Galleon willing to take them? Not too easy. And even 200 gold is A LOT. It is in the game's best interest to keep the pricing the way it is, or if they do raise it, not by much.

SEAKING23 12-07-2010 03:46 AM

Um when i was level 15 i would go on war frigs/galleons all the time. if their on public. the captains would expect low levels. its also way to easy to get gold. go on a public ship, get some gold, and come back to port filthy stinking rich.
