Worth Getting Unlimited?

Before I get unlimited I just wanted to know is it actually worth the money? Or should I just continue with the Basic Version.

Thanks Everyone!

Yes you can do alot more.

Cannon Mad Dan 11-03-2007 12:24 AM

It is more than worth the money. Basic is a joke; it's more like a trial than a full game. Definitely get Unlimited, at least to try. It's ten bucks. If you don't like it in a month, quit paying. Ten bucks for a month of pleasure is a good deal anyhow.

Nick 11-03-2007 12:26 AM

First month is $5 last i checked :)

Cannon Mad Dan 11-03-2007 12:27 AM

Only if you pre-ordered. :mickeypiratezd4:

ScurvyCory 11-03-2007 01:49 AM

Actually, it's $40 cheaper if you do the yearly pay...

Yes! It is so worth it... You can get way better weapons and ships...

if you pre-ordered Nick, it was only 5 dollars cheaper for the first month, and since the pre-ordered ended, it's now back to 10 dollars

well the site still said $5 didn't it? thats what i thought it said for the first month when i got unlimited before, or was i just blind?

Silver Beard 11-03-2007 03:51 AM

basic...never mind

Basicly basic access is what i call REAL bilge water...if ye know what i mean...unlimited is a LOT better. with basic you can only go to level 8 and you can't get anything better than a cutlass and a pistol. and ye can only get ONE type of ship (light sloop) wich isn't really any good at all.

SammyJay 11-03-2007 07:15 AM

My account is "basic" at this time and basic is exactly what I expected it to be. It's mainly just a trial account, as someone else mentioned, in order to decide if you like the game enough to stick with it for a while. Fine.

I could see myself enjoying this game and playing a while, but the devs are gonna have to spend alot of time on this game in order to get my $10 a month. My game experience was less than desireable, certainly not good enough to justify spending my money on.

The lag is the worst I've seen in any mmo I've played. Some of the mobs were glitched on me, and the thing that absolutely ruined it for me was getting attacked and killed by mobs I couldn't even see, that happened on several occasions. Might have been due to lag, perhaps the mob hadn't visually spawned yet? Who knows.

I realize this game is newly released. Lots of hiccups to be expected. But at this time, I cannot possibly see the benefit of paying to play this game. There might be added bonuses, but if you're horribly lagging, those bonuses won't help the game play.

I'll have to watch this one and see how soon improvements are made. It's a shame, this game has tremendous possibilities.

livewire82 11-03-2007 09:42 AM

as for the cost the site says " all new members pay 4.95 for the first month " so fellow beta testers we yet again get the shaft, and as for the game play i tried the basic version on the day of the games release and it played great then logged into my unlimited paid account and the lag was and still is bad.

I suggest you keep playing the free version until you reach a point when you can't progress anymore. If at that point, you want to play more and unlock more features, it will be worth it.

I preordered the unlimited, but now I'm not sure if I am going to keep it. I loved the game in Beta, played it every day. Since it opened to the public, I just don't like it as much. Too many in-game problems. It isn't worth it to me to play at this point. :stars:

Don't listen to this guy, he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I have a monster computer machine, and I get lag like hell, ya wanna know why?

It's server lag, potco developers decided to get a cheap server that has TOOOO many servers instead of working on quality, they bought quantity, which is really a shame, so we'll be lagging until they make big bucks, which isn't likely since most people will stop paying-- it's just really a sub par game compared to pirates of the burning sea coming out in January... sorry to say...

jg007 11-04-2007 10:39 AM

I don't have that impressive a computer and I am playing in the uk but don't notice much lag so I really would agree that you may need to look at your broadband or the amount of memory in your computer as POTC is quite a memory hog and I would say that it requires at least 1 GB of memory in XP

another suggestion would be to try changing worlds in case the one you are on is getting a bit overloaded.

*** I should have added though , I am on unlimited access so this may be part of it ***

my compurte specs

Athlon 3000
1.5 GB pc3200
Geforce 6200 256 MB

jg007 11-04-2007 01:13 PM

I take part of that back, it looks like POTC suffers from the same memory leak issues as toon town.

I was starting to get a bit laggy and when I checked my machine the page file usage was up to 1.9 GB!!! and that is with 1.5 gb of memory and as soon as I quit POTC it dropped right back down .

I hope that they can fix this as toontown has always had this problem. I will also cross post in bugs in the hope that they reply

Goldfish 11-04-2007 03:41 PM

Well for the basic version, I'm not getting so much lag, because my pop-ups are blocked, its just that the things seem to pop up out of nowhere, and sometimes, I'm just floating in empty space..

As for worth, get the $79.95 for a year if you like it. Its only about 6.66 a month.

BellHop 11-04-2007 03:48 PM

Is there still lag if you buy unlimited?

Goldfish 11-04-2007 03:50 PM

From popular answers, no.

Sonicblur 11-04-2007 04:38 PM

Here's my question.

So, here's my question... if you get unlimited access and finish everything (Get all weapons, blah blah) then when you decide to leave unlimited access and go back to basic, do you keep all the weapons and things that you did? Or do they disappear? (I certainly hope they don't.)

Captain 11-04-2007 05:21 PM

Get Unlimited, it lags less, from what I've heard. From what I've heard, free play stinks.

Speedway Master 11-04-2007 07:58 PM

According to a in-game hint from the game, it says that you get less exp from monsters if you're a basic member.

grayman 11-12-2007 10:00 PM

I tried the basic route and it wasn't too bad. I was able to level up lots of times and accomplish quite a bit. Unfortunately, not only was I unable to level any items any further or acquire new weapons and skills, I also ran out of quests that were not locked for basic members. I found this to be the most frustrating element. I suppose if you want a truly freeform game, where you can just wander and do as you wish with no directives or missions to accomplish, basic would be ok. You will always struggle in battles past a certain point, since your skills cannot go above 3, but you can still level your notoriety (albeit dreadfully slowly) just by killing enemies. I am sad to admit it, but after 2 days of no quests to do, I caved and paid the $5 for the first month. In the end, I am sure I will get that much enjoyment out of it, if not more. I still haven't decided if I will re-up for a longer time.

Allure 11-12-2007 11:27 PM

If you change oceans to a more "quiet" ocean that tends to help with the lag sometimes. I've done that before for several reasons, to change oceans if you don't know, hit the "M" key and click on the arrow beneath your ocean name.

I personally don't experience a lot of a lag, it can get more glitchy on the "ideal" oceans more so than the "quiet" oceans.

Try that and see if it helps :)

HaveAMagicalDay 11-13-2007 01:35 AM

On pahse 2 of beta, I started as an unlimited account, and then was changed to test the basic. The lag was horrible, adds drove me crazy, and too many bugs for basic. If I didn't know the Unlimiated Access was ALOT better, I wouldn't have paid.

Cannon Mad Dan 11-14-2007 06:35 PM

It is fantastic being Unlimited. I don't know how Basic members can stand it.
