Potco is getting annoying

you see POTCO was way more fun in the good old days but now alot of things are bugging me most of all it is the other pirates. has this ever happened to you , you are talking to someone and you're a high lvl ( im a 49 ) and a lvl 10-14 comes up and says hey noob , noob , hi noob or something like that it gets really annoying considering im like 40 levels ahead of them

pieisbetter2 10-12-2010 01:56 AM

Even if you are like 40 levels ahead of them, it's still rude to call someone a noob. Sure, I've done it myself, but do i regret it? Absolutely not. The people I call noobs are selfish a mean spirited. Maybe your hanging out on Abassa too much?

Chimera Doll 10-12-2010 01:56 AM

I know how you feel mate!
These people are not only in game but in the world. I've seen so many hate filled people these days and it's mainly younger people.
Try not to let them bug you and just ignore it is the best advice I can give.
If you feel it's necessary, report them for rude/bad behavior.

finn 10-12-2010 02:05 AM

i am young lol and im as supportive and nice as i can be

Dog Firestack 10-12-2010 12:02 PM

I suggest you use the ignore button.

Trolling. Ignore the person.

christopher cannonskull 10-12-2010 11:07 PM

i ignore them and if that dont work i yell at them if that dont work i crash them with staff lag

Tiberius Fireskull 10-12-2010 11:27 PM

^ Lol, nice with the staff lag, but that would mainly only work on crowded servers.

Best thing to do is outsmart them somehow. It is somewhat amusing to outsmart them, because I find people that act this way have a lack of common sense. It is funny to see their rebuts to what you say.

Red Nations 10-13-2010 07:45 PM

There were plenty of annoying people in game back in the good old days too. Disney has cleaned house on a lot of things that used to go on. The fact that a level 14 was calling your level 49 a Noob illustrates that you were dealing with a moron.

What you described when you were just hanging out chatting with a friend when the creep showed up and started pestering you has happened to me plenty of times in game. It shows the player to be lacking in manners if they keep butting into a conversation where they aren't wanted, Sometimes begging to be added to your friend list, your crew or your guild or sending PVP invites in the process and generally being a nuisance. The issue seems to be even worse if the friend you're chatting with happens to be a lady pirate. A lot of wannabe Romeo's in game. I don't mind helping other players or anwsering questions about the game but when they are making a pest of themselves in that sort of situation I usually wait until they have supplied enough rope to hang themselves in chat and report them.

WitchdoctorDan 10-14-2010 11:35 PM

^Lulz

Also, go as FAR AWAY FROM CROWDED SERVERS AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!!! I usually get the response, "But some guild members want me to come help them do something like a quest!" To them I say, is it going to kill them to click a mouse a few times to TP to you? Any high-level pirate and a war frigate is usually better than a full light ship with a low-level at the helm, no?

PrimalDialgaPrime 10-17-2010 11:11 PM

jolly richard 10-18-2010 12:06 AM

i just agree with the people that say stuff like that about me...they imediatley shut up,just don't let it get to you;because if you let them know that then they've won.

Dog Firestack 10-18-2010 12:09 AM

If they're annoying you, you can easily just use the ignore button and shut them out.

Nate Raidhawk 10-22-2010 08:05 PM

Pirate Guy, do you remember the good days? back when you could see others on their ship, and there could be holes in the sails. and ya, in fact, i walk into king's arm and a guy says sup noob. when they do that, just ignore it.

Nate Treshercaptain 10-23-2010 04:34 AM

i have had someone who just stared the game come up and start acting all rude calling me a noob and stupid. -_- im level thirty seven and he was level one

Yes, the days when you could see others on ships.... Sigh... The good ol' days. Or not, I remember people trashcanning others for sinking a ship they were after. I still miss 'em though. Sigh...

Nate Raidhawk 10-23-2010 08:11 PM

also, another cool thing was the fact that you could actually SWIM in the high seas :)

Francis Bluehawk 11-02-2010 02:58 AM

as for the people who call other people noobs i invite my soldiers i get like 5 guys surrounding them ''correcting'' them i try to be nice to people but these days the yare mean people. Also this '' adult '' today said to a friend of mien they were as smart as sponegebob ha ha ha!!!!!!!

Tiberius Fireskull 11-02-2010 03:23 AM

Erm, Francis. Don't want to sound mean, but you really shouldn't do that. I do try to stand up for other people, but you don't need to call in a militia. Just tell them they shouldn't say that, if they don't listen, give 'em a report, and leave. Its not worth bugging them about.

SEAKING23 11-02-2010 04:21 AM

A jerk

So one time me and davy fireskull landed at Cuba after a nice sea voyage. we found a lvl 50 calling a lvl 43 a coward for running away from something. so i stepped in, and soon a said you would do the same thing if you were in the situation. This leads to me and Davy fire skull in a PVP against him. Long story short, he brings a level 50 friend, whom he hides behind her the whole time, and kill us both. he helped a little. a lvl 38 and 46 against to lvl 50s. so when it ended, i said, it wasn't fair that you brung a lvl 50 along! he didn't answer. so i challenged him to a on on one PVP, (I know this sounds dum,)but i have killed level 50s before during the curse, don't under estimate me. he was a bad fighter, as proved during the PVP, so i felt as if i could take him.) he didn'y say anything. i kept asking him, yet he keeps ignoring me. but he still stays there. i forget how, but i start bragging about me sword, saying i can turn into a ghost with it. (no, not el patron, the dark mutineer) he says, "yeah right" so i say lets prove it. i say, lets go to ravens, charge it there, he ignores me. so, i charge on the alligator that are there, and turn in a ghost. he stands there, dumbfounded, while i flex. :laughks2: then i logged out after that, as i had something to do.
So as you see, you got to push the right buttons when it comes to morons like these ppl.

Why doesen't Disney ban words like noob Newbie and repstealer. They ban words that are harmless. and leave in words that are offensive. You can fight another player with every weapon that you have but not a pistol. You can't say a number that has no reference to age. Even approved names turn up red.Male pirates can run around in their underwear, womens corsets don't cover much, allow kids to run up to you and say will you be my girlfriend.Hope Disney is reading this but my guess is that its not.

Tiberius Fireskull 11-02-2010 11:27 PM

@SEAKING. Um, not me Davy Fireskull right? I haven't ever hung out with you before....

leo 11-03-2010 12:00 AM

Well mate if a non-unlimited comes to you or a low level comes to you and call you "noob" you should be able to just ignore it by now especially if you have been playing this game for a long time. I'm telling you its not worth arguing with them, just play your game and have fun

Tiberius Fireskull 11-03-2010 01:37 AM

You know, I really want to emphasize this point. About 90% of the time, these jerks you encounter will not be very bright. Since this is the case, if you are a smart young (or old) pirate, you can easily outwit them. Outwitting them always can totally turn everything around. It goes from them being a jerk to you and them laughing at you, to them struggling and you laughing at them, as they try to say something smart. I always love doing this, especially if you don't say anything wrong. Lemme give a scenario:

Quote:

Jerkface: Hey noob!
you: Noob? Where?!
Jerkface: I'm looking right at him.
you: You mean the little fly buzzing between us? Aye, he is a noob isn't he.
Jerkface: Wow, I'm talking about you.
you: Me? A noob? Can you please define noob? Its a very broad term mate!
Jerkface: Why should I.
you: Why not?
Jerkface: A noob is defined by you.
you: If a noob is defined as "you", wouldn't that make you one as well? Or am I just mistaken?
Jerkface: Wow, your an idiot.
you: Mate, I would love to stay and chit chat with you, but I really must be off. I have a life to attend to. Anyways, I hope you enjoy your ban from the game! Fair winds!
I must say, I had fun making that conversation.... anyway, see? You can get a good laugh out of it, and you can avoid causing any harm.

Red Nations 11-03-2010 02:02 AM

Excellent Technique Davy:
This is sort of what I do with them, Causing them to supply the rope for their own hangin.:laughks2:

StellaInTheSky 11-03-2010 02:54 AM

I had someone do the opposite of name calling, but still the same concept. Got mad at me because I wasn't healing her (she ran up out of nowhere while I was fighting alone) and started attacking my enemy, I let her go about her business but refused to heal her because I wasn't leveling doll and didn't want to. She finally took being rude, asking "Whats your problem?" after I told her I repeatedly didn't want to heal because I was leveling other things. She took to running away and whispering me saying that just because I was a high level (she was a 20, I was a 35...) I shouldn't be rude to her, etc. I ignored, reported, and went on. Sad to say it happens all the time anymore. =(

Well mate, it isn't exactly fair to discriminate against Basic or low levels. Heck, I'm both. Honestly, if anyone comes up to you like this, you do it. Though, I will admit, I am rather fond of Davy's approach. It was useful during the Muertos moon. Or Abassa. Or for random PVP people. Okay, in general, haha.

Eliza Creststeel 11-03-2010 03:31 PM

I think you may have missed the original point.

First, that 10-14 could have been a Master's second or third pirate.

Second, I have seen a number of lower levels using the term noob ironically - purposely calling Master pirates noob as a bit of a joke or a way to kind of 'give it back' to those who constantly call them newbies.

Of course, I wasn't there so I don't know the context. I was with a crew working Raven's Cove one night and a fellow master called me noob and we laughed about it.

Tiberius Fireskull 11-03-2010 04:37 PM

Aye, lets pretend a muertos moon is happening. My other mastered friend kills me, and we are in a crew. Then in crew chat, I yell out "YOU NOOB!!!". He doesn't take offense and we just start laughing about it. Its a very loose term. Thats good and bad. It honestly depends on the context it is being used in.

Tyler The Tyrant 11-04-2010 09:43 PM

Personally I hate rep robbers. I call them vultures.

The solution to the noob problem is challenging them to PVP. None of my challenges have been accepted because they didn't want to be humbled by certain defeat.

Tiberius Fireskull 11-05-2010 12:54 AM

Just because you can beat someone in PvP, doesn't mean they are a noob. People beat me in PvP, and I don't think I am a noob (no comments from the following: Crestshot, TSC, Jack Shipsteel).

pieisbetter2 11-05-2010 03:21 AM

rofl davy, making people confused is what i'm best at XD. then after you get rid of the person, they go and do it to someone else. at least from what i've seen. i'll usually try and back someone up, unless they do good themselves lol. i think people these days just need someway to get rid of their anger. seeing as i have anger issues, i sometimes get frustrated and start breaking things. but thats my way of getting my anger out. other people get rid of it through other people. basically those people are online bullies. either they had the same thing happen to them or their just plain morons.

Tiberius Fireskull 11-05-2010 03:26 AM

Actually, I've met people who openly admitted to me that they think its fun to make other people upset. I don't want to know how they live their lives, and what will become of them. As for getting my anger out, I draw a picture of the person I'm mad at... then I draw them being struck by lightning, and all that other stuff. Then I rip apart the paper and throw it away. That takes my anger out usually.... and its fun too...

pieisbetter2 11-05-2010 04:59 AM

rofl, we all have our way right? people that openly admit to them liking to make fun of people are probably like i said, just morons. they don't have any decent reason to it.

Pirate Guy 11-22-2010 04:43 AM

I see what you mean yes I have called people noobs and laughed with them but I was talking to my friend and this random dude just comes up and says " whats up noobs " I laughed and he said " whatever noob cya noobs " and left

Sometimes, and I want to expose this out but if a lvl 10-14 comes to a thrall den (which I'm surprised they lived) I fight a enemy then let them attack and keep them at knockout till they go to jail. Why? I only have 5 miracle waters just for myself, they should know they should not be here from the start.

Exactly what I do. Even in Fort Charles on me level 20. "Go ahead, attack them. I got yer back." I attune them, and watch them die. Then I run away.

Is that a good reason to respect a troll? If you are mastered, WHO CARES? Whoop-de-doo, you've played a lot. While it may mean they have better manners, that's not always true. In fact, many are just plain arrogant. Even mastered pirates can be "noobs" in the definition of the word. Not, newbs or newbies, NOOBS. A noob is interchangeable with: Griefer, Troll, Flamer, or Just Plain Annoying. A newb is new to the game. They are homonyms, not synonyms. Calling a "noob" a "newb" and vice-versa isn't always true.

I agree. Even if someone is mastered they still shouldn't be calling people noobs.
I was at Darkhart abassa the other day and I put up a defense booster on my staff, the fifty asked me to stop and I did. Then she started saying "pirate guy is a noob." Then she got her friend to start saying I'm scared of Darkhart. I mean come one seriously!

Many pirates who began playing relatively close to when the game launched could tell you that the atmosphere has changed dramatically. The good old days as they're commonly referred to is exactly what they were, the times when players had the pirate spirit and held their common manners and courtesy when greeting/interacting with others.

However, the mood switched around a year ago when PvP reached an all time high. When "jumping" was first introduced, the drama and rudeness began. Like some posted on this thread already, the best thing to do is beat them at their own game. Many players began "jumping" me in a PvP match where it'd be 4 on 1.. in retaliation, I took a few Officers with me and stood on Abassa for a short while and sure enough, we got the PvP and beat them at their own game. It seems as though the fame and reputation is high among the younger players, but that doesn't speak for all.

The best thing to do with players who are basically rude is just ignore them, report them, or change servers. Sure you may lose out on a certain spot but it beats the headache of having to deal with someone there who is aggravating. I'm disappointed that Disney took away so many of the quiet servers because it gave space to those who wanted it. But the dramatic and tense atmosphere has seemed to die down, but there's still small extent to which it exists, mainly on the full servers - the closer you are to Abassa, the more essence you'll get.. not implying that everyone who goes to Abassa acts that way ;)

Davy_Mcwrecker 11-28-2010 04:47 AM

when i see a lvl 14 calling ppl noobs a friend them then follow them around cuz they dont know how to stop me a I copycat 'em they say hi noob i say Hi NoOb yes to annoy them & they eventually go offline then i unfriend them & im like lol & how do u crash ppl with staff lag???

Captain Sharktooth 11-28-2010 06:38 AM

It can get very annoying....

There are two ways with dealing with people that like to annoy and mutter "noob" frequently...

As the old saying goes, "kill 'em with kindness"...aka "Hey you're right! I am new to this! Perhaps YOU, with your vast knowledge, could help further me along in this most tedious of games?"

Or try this...just make sure you have a friend who's in on it to do this with you...

Annoying Person: You're such a noob!
Me: OMG, did he just call me a "noob" ?!?
Friend: Apparently he must be new to gaming or hasn't caught onto the latest trend...
Annoying Person: Huh?
Me: When you say the word "noob", you're pronouncing it wrong...
Friend: Yes, it's actually pronounced "No-Oh-Bee"...
Me: Y'know, like Garfield's friend Odie...it sounds like that...
Annoying Person: What?
Me: People are no longer called "noob" cause of the mis-pronounciation...
Friend: Nowadays the proper term is "Newper" which is short for new person...
Me: I think you're right...this guy hasn't gamed long or just doesn't know the new slang...
Friend: He's such a "Newper"...
Me: Yep...go away Newper until you learn the proper gaming terms...
Friend: LOL! Such a Newper!

Well this level 15 basic joined the game and was really hurting us our friend was waiting outside the CD spot and we tried to convince this guy to leave cause we had a friend who got disconnected. after a while he just disappeared don't know if anyone crashed him or what but I probably would have if I knew :)

Chimera Doll 11-30-2010 12:56 AM

It does get annoying but it's not the game, it's the people.
Your best bet is to ignore them or do what Captain NightWolf did, which by the way, LOL. Very nice. :laughks2:

Remember you can always ignore them or switch servers. I have had a really frightening encounter with pirates before but eventually they left me alone.
It's just little kids anyways and obviously they are jealous. :)

I know who wouldn't be jealous of me? :) :) :) :laughks2: Just kidding but I don't think the problem are kids for example one of my best friends is a kid but he respect everyone he meets and is never mean.

SEAKING23 12-02-2010 02:55 AM

when some loser goes up to me and calls me a noob, this is what i LOVE to do..

Loser: hey noob!! go away! no noobs allowed.
Me: mate, i fell sorry for you.
Loser: Ha! me?? i would be felling sorry for you.
Me: your such a fail in real life and in-game, you have nothing better to do then to call people noobs to make your self feel better.
Loser: thats not true. you are a noob.
Me: do you know what noob means?
Loser: yeah, you.
ME: noob means a jerk, troll, or just a plain loser. like you.

this would go on and on. if it goes to far, i'd just pvp him.

Tiberius Fireskull 12-02-2010 03:16 AM

If it goes to far, I send a report and say something like. "Mate, you should take a vacation. Maybe the ban you'll be getting from the game will help that. Anyway, I must run! Have a good ban!"

PvPing settles nothing....

ok this is like the 10th great dialouge ive heard but i must agree with Davy i will lose to ANYONE in pvp :) im a lvl 50 but i dont think im a noob....i'm not a noob am i?

leo 12-02-2010 04:26 AM

I think a noob is not defined by the way they play with themselves, or the skill they in pvp or anything else nor their level number, but the lack of respect- thats what really defines a noob

Pirate Guy 12-02-2010 11:31 PM

What really annoys me is that the people who come on POTCO just to annoy people who actually play the game

SEAKING23 12-03-2010 01:37 AM

I think we should just man the word noob. letting us say numbers wouldn't hurt either. but i think the TRUE solution the problem is to make punishments swifter and harder. if Disney checks that chat, and they see a guy making fun of someone else, then they ban him/her for a week or so. people should just not be able to not see cuss words, then they are harmless. besides, some people may swear in-game to take out their anger, and then Disney would ban them from the game, making them angered... you get the idea. who's with me?

WitchdoctorDan 12-03-2010 03:43 AM

Tryin' me hand at this "genius" dialogue thing... *Rubs hands together* Here goes...

Annoying: lol wut a nub xd
Me: A nub? My tail isn't docked... I didn't think I had one! What do you mean by "nub"?
Annoying: omg wut a noob!!!1! XD
Me: Oh! You mean noob? Nub = Noob. I'll remember that. Of course, your vast intellect and sea of knowledge must be vastly superior to mine. You'll have to excuse me, O Master of Wisdom!
Annoying: XD
Me: Yes, so in being as knowledgeable as you are, you must know what happens to people that call others mean and annoying names in-game, ¿verdad?
Annoying: ya they get reported and wut is verdad?
Me: Aye, they do get reported. So, enjoy your little break from the game. You must have wanted a vacation pretty bad to concieve this plan to be banned. Wow, you are a real mastermind! Enjoy your little break while I go and enjoy my non-banned account somewhere else. Bon voyage! Oh, and verdad means true in Spanish.
Annoying: lol wut! u reported meh????!!!1
Me: No, not yet... Okay NOW you are. Buh-bye! *Walks off*

Tiberius Fireskull 12-03-2010 03:59 AM

/clap.

Nice one Witchy.

Uglyjerkfacemorondude: Hey! Noob over there!

Uglyjerkfacemorondude: Wow, you know what, your really being stu :p id. Get lost noob.
me: Ok, I'm heading to Rumrunner's for a vacation. Where do you like to vacation?
Uglyjerkfacemorondude: lol wut?
me: I know a good place to try! Its called not in this game! I think the ban you'll be getting will help with that.
Uglyjerkfacemorondude: You reported me? why? i didn't do anything wrong. -_-
me: You called me stu :p id, whatever that means. Anyway, I must be off! Enjoy your vacation/ban!**
Uglyjerkfacemorondude: My what? what did ye say?! wow, noob...

**vacation/ban would come out in red italics, so he wouldn't understand it since this person has SP+.

How wuz dat?

Pirate Guy 12-03-2010 08:31 PM

I thoguht it was pretty good davy

SEAKING23 12-03-2010 09:52 PM

what happen if he does not have speed chat? huh? huh??

WitchdoctorDan 12-04-2010 04:35 AM

I don't get it... There is Speed Chat Plus, but no Speed Chat Basic? *looks confuzzled*

Tiberius Fireskull 12-04-2010 05:50 AM

There is a plain speedchat. It makes it so you can only pick prewritten phrases, and you can't type. If you ask me, it harms the game, as you can't tell them if they are bothering you by rep stealing or something. Thats beside the point though.

WitchdoctorDan 12-04-2010 06:29 AM

Oh.

I feel dumb now.

Anywhos, asking a shipfull of people if anyone would be interested in joining a guild 'bout got me in some trouble, for some strange reason. Everyone on board (especially the Cap'n..) took offense. Needless to say, me being the coward I am, I fled the scene. So, nobody overreacts at all in this game, do they?

Tiberius Fireskull 12-04-2010 06:32 AM

I dunno... some people do overreact to things. I remember someone saying "For the Love of God!" or something along those lines and somebody got all offended, saying stuff about his own beliefs. I won't state them, as I don't really want to risk offending anyone here. Not that I agree with what he said, but you know, in case someone takes it the wrong way. It was pretty funny, the guy was going nuts.

A lot of times a GM will go to a busy server and make their ship public while hunting for suitable recruits for their guild, I've done this myself a few times. In some circles its considered rude for crew other than the captain to be soliciting for their guilds, the captain is after all providing the ship and helping fill your pockets with gold while you are sailing with him. I've booted people out of my crew and taken the ship off public settings for a while when they were on my ship spamming out guild invites. or being obnoxious in other ways.

I really wouldn't mind if someone asked me "can you join my guild?" I would just politely decline and it would be over. However if they started to spam me or be really annoying I would ask them to leave/stop if it continued I would report him probably.

The guy was an old friend and we had done several runs. I asked once, very politely, not spamming (which is beneath me, and you apparently think I would stoop that low...) and I was run off the ship. By my own friend. The guy actually had no guild, doesn't want a guild, and has never had one. And to be honest, I didn't have much to be thankful for since he had pretty bad Treasure Sense.

...You're welcome Davy...

My post was not an attack directed against you, your innitial post left it wide open for interpretation.

You didn't clarify whether you were sailing on a friends ship or a public ship or what the circumstances were.

From what you described I'd guess that there were some other issues going on between that friend/captain, the rest of his crew and yourself that resulted in what happened. Don't know if you had had a falling out with him prior to that incident? Does sound like an over reaction on his part or something malicious going on among the crew in whisper chat.

I was refering to going on a guild recruitment cruise while making my ship public. I boot from ship for a number of reasons, among which those declining crew invite get dumped off at my first port of call. If I recieve complaints from my crew regarding recieving unwanted whispers from a random crewman while sailing my ship on public that player get dumped off ship. Also for various types of spamming not only with guild invites but also those trying to draw off my crew or demanding that I port at some place other than that of my choosing. Needless to say the wheel stealers, random shooters and those refusing to cease fire after the cargo is full of royals and I'm heading for port also get dumped as soon as I port.

Pirate Guy 12-11-2010 05:51 AM

I have noticed a weird change, on my basic account pirate ( lvl 11 ) and on my small pirate unlimited access ( lvl 16 ) have never been called noobs but on my mastered pirate I get called noob every time i go on abassa.....

tayseth 12-11-2010 04:01 PM

All of you are getting trolled. Stop posting chat logs; they only do the opposite of what you want people to believe.

Midhav 12-12-2010 05:05 AM

Nice dialogues Shadow Sorcerors - It makes me feel like joining up with ye!

And what do you mean, Tayseth?

Pirate Guy 12-13-2010 03:06 AM
