Savvy Swashbucklers - October 6, 2010

Savvy Swashbucklers!
October 06, 2010
Avast there ye motley crew of rascals, knaves and scoundrels! It's time - once again - to recognize the finest, bravest Pirate in all the Caribbean. Whether he's been known to beat back Jolly Roger's Invasions with one hand tied behind his back or evading Beckett's EITC forces while whistling a sea shanty, this is the Pirate of all Pirates and deserves our highest recognition.

Starting from October 6 - October 20, we want to honor those special Pirates who've aided others, demonstrated great courage, and used their wits in the face of almost unbeatable foes. If you know such a Pirate, let us know by e-mailing us! The Pirate who's most unique and true to the Pirate spirit will be recognized as being the savviest Pirate in the Caribbean - a true Savvy Swashbuckler!

Sending us your choice is simple. E-mail us at: [email protected] with the subject line, "Savvy Swashbucklers" and include the following information:
  • Name and level of the Pirate you are nominating
  • The Guild in which the Pirate is a member
  • Reason why you think this Pirate deserves to win. Make sure to tell us their tale! We want to hear what makes this Pirate a true Savvy Swashbuckler
  • Which island can we find this Pirate on ... if we want to go sailing with them

Entries will only be accepted through e-mail. Make sure to send your choices to: [email protected] with the subject line, "Savvy Swashbucklers."

Help us in recognizing the unsung, heroic Pirates in the Caribbean, and start e-mailing us today!

What: Savvy Swashbucklers
When: October 6 - October 20
Where: E-mail us your choices at: [email protected]

This again? Here we go again!

Ropeburn 10-06-2010 09:18 PM

And the popularity contest is back... :p

Cannonfury 10-06-2010 09:18 PM

(in a sarcastic tone)

yay!!!!! More favoritism which hopefully will lead to more conflicts!!!!! makes me feel all fuzzy inside :)

Captain Del 10-06-2010 09:31 PM

I hate how Disney potrays that a person who recieves the most votes is one of the most "savvy" pirates in the Caribbean.

I'll say it again. There are often too many pirates who don't recieve recognition for what they do everyday. Thusly, basing this on the number of votes one recieves isn't going to work. I really hope they actually pay attention to who the pirate that people vote for is, not how many people vote for them.

CaptainMonkeys 10-06-2010 09:42 PM

I bet now you can go into Abassa and see people begging for votes. Hurrah.

Captain Celtics 10-06-2010 09:44 PM

This isn't a popularity contest. They want you to actually state why they should be awarded the title. Still garbage though. Nobody gives a you know what about this when the game has been closed for the past 17 hours.

Chimera Doll 10-06-2010 09:55 PM

Sounds like fun but it is based more on popularity. I hope they won't just choose someone with the most votes.

Jack Shipsteel 10-06-2010 10:35 PM

From what I can see.. this isn't a voting competition. This counts on how people speak of this person, what they find most appealing about him/her. If it was a tallying of votes, they would just ask for the name of the person your choosing, not all this side information.

In my opinion, I can see, and somewhat like, what D is doing. Their tuning towards what the players think, and they want to find a people's champ. Only thing I don't like about this is the WAY their doing it. They publicly announce it, and in the end, you have a bunch of people asking for this title. I can't find an easy solution to this, but if they took a handful of pirates, all from different backgrounds and guilds, and then asked them who they thought who was the Savviest pirate in the seas, I think it would go better. However, there's still a bunch of side problems with even that.

In the end though, I'm glad that they're listening to us.. not just choosing the pirate themselves.

The Skirata Clan 10-07-2010 12:20 AM

Is it me or is this the 4th time they do this event this year?

Jack Shipsteel 10-07-2010 12:25 AM

Second, although they have done 4 or 5 events kinda like this over the summer.

Nate Swordwalker 10-07-2010 01:11 AM

Yay, now we can vote for random people we see on the street! :laughks2:

Crestshot 10-07-2010 04:36 AM

Naters, if you do that, I ain't talking to you. (Unless that person is me. Haha)

Tiberius Fireskull 10-07-2010 05:22 AM

This is so pointless... its just a popularity contest. There are so many pirates out there that I know, and are amazing people, but aren't recognized... I really don't know why they do it.... buuuuuuuut VOTE DAVY FIRESKULL!

Crestshot 10-07-2010 05:28 AM

*Davy Fireskull has automatically been ejected from the competition due to shameless advertizing*

Hahaha!!!

Tiberius Fireskull 10-07-2010 06:06 AM

Never said I couldn't advertise lol. Just kidding around. However, people who go around to random people asking for their votes for no reason don't deserve to win the competition. The people who deserve to win are the people who just want to have fun and play the game with friends, not those who stand on Abassa whispering to everyone they see "Vote for me!"

titanic95594 10-07-2010 07:03 AM

^Im surprised I havent seen anyone saying that on Abassa Torutga......yet.

I agree with that, but I don't think they listen much though, although they keep saying "We do just about everything based on feedback - keep telling us", I think they got their own business agenda, however in the mean time, I am not going to go antagonist either.

Dog Firestack 10-07-2010 12:05 PM

I hate this, more popularity..

By the way Crest, you spelled advertising wrong...

Igor agree with you Captain. Igor say that is why this weird little third person speaking Igor made a push for this contest last time. Igor have to say Igor not the most popular pirate either but was very hard working on several new mini games with many pirates, and has always helped anyone who asked Igor politely!

Igor think POF members should vote for a person we all know and love, that do alot of work on the Forum and the Game. Igor think we should vote Capt Del's new pirate the leader of the Guild conclave to Savvy Swashbuckler. Igor think it would give the pirate conclave a even bigger push to being something substantial and change the popularity contest to POF's favor.

I totally agree. I wouldn't vote for any of my friends and they wouldn't vote for me, none of us care about this, no reward, no point, no fun. It's just Disney putting a short article of why your a "savy swashbuckler" and how many people you help and blah blah blah. The people who win just whisper to all their friends to vote for them, go and make some new friends and help them. One of my favorite quotes is "Character is who you are when nobody is watching" Your not great because disney said so. Your great because you actually help, and enjoy it, and don't just do it so Disney will give you a pat on the back for help the most people in a day then stopping for another year.

Thank you for seeing eye to eye in what I have to say, but no.

Taking up a spot in the final standings, heavan forbid I did win, would honestly be a waste. It's unfair to the regular joe-shmoe's out there, who aren't on the forums, to have my Conclave pirate win, just for the sake of it's promotion. There's pirates out there that deserve this recognition a lot more than me.

Cannonfury 10-07-2010 10:41 PM

Im gonna vote for .......... Britney Spears

Del, you deserve something! You can't just deny that. I do think we all agree, and I was going to vote for you anyways :) You deserve it, Delmaria Darkskull! Now, go sit in the corner and think about what you've.... erm..:laughks2:

Hey guys...

Hey guys, maybe we should vote for a Host GM? Lol. :laughks2: (jk) Ok, basically I think this is a complete waste of time. Why don't update their lore section on the Pirates Online site, with info on potions, ship repair, cannon defense, fishing, and Raven's Cove Island. :) :bookishfj7: :piratewheelgo2:

:smiley66: Igor...
Don't feel badly mate. You should feel honored to have worn the Savvy Swashbuckler title.
Pay no attention to the others.... If you won, then you deserved it.
The Pixies have worked with you before, & we know what kind of Pirate you are!
As do all the others on the Forum as well.

I know if I were ever to shake the Unlucky off of Luckie & I were to win.....
You better believe I would be happy & proud as well.

There be no walking off a short pier today! :pirate31:

Victoria 10-08-2010 07:06 PM

Igor Greybeard 10-08-2010 11:49 PM

Igor says

Igor says nothing mate. Igor say everyone will start asking you "ARE YOU ............ THE SAVVY SWASHBUCKLER ? " and Igor say Helga says groupies...

Ahoy Igor mate,

you should send that to the pirates online crew, see if they start thinking of something new

Igor Greybeard 10-11-2010 07:14 PM

Igor waves

Igor often wondered why if it is a popularity contest why the large guild masters would not have made the list last time? Igor not think it the quantity but the quality of the e-mails that each pirate receives.

That's the question Igor. Is it a popularity contest or is it a contest to see which pirate inspires the few the most?

Tiberius Fireskull 10-12-2010 05:07 AM

Exactly. If that was the case, it would be people from guilds like McRaging that always won.
