testers whats good in the updates?

I was wondering if the new things are really fun or over hyped can u tell me whats the scoop

Sven Osymthe 09-04-2010 07:00 PM

Try looking around at the release notes. As for being fun, yes, it's fun for a little while.

Is it over hyped? Look around in the other threads here, it is clearly beyond, over hyped.

Captain Del 09-04-2010 07:02 PM

I personally like fishing. It levels up fast, yet it manages to stay entertaining the entire time. Plus, the Legenday fish boss fights are really cool too :)

I haven't tried to new dagggers and knives, but I know a lot of people LOVE to use the heck out of them.

Of course, while these updates are nice, I don't think it's that painful to wait for. If it gets added soon, yay. If not... meh.

Tiberius Fireskull 09-04-2010 07:18 PM

They are really fun updates. Fishing is really fun, and it should be more fun for me when it comes live because I will have more gold on live. As for the new daggers, my test pirate hasnt finished the quest, so I'm not one to ask about that. However the new throwing knives excite me. All of it seems fun, but I feel that it isnt worth the wait.

Andrew 09-04-2010 07:23 PM

Everything they have added is pretty good, here is a brief list of what has been added.
  • Fishing
  • New Daggers
  • Throwing Knives
  • New Ships (Removed but still under development)
  • Veteran Rank for Guilds

Fishing can wait for me since I know how to do it. What I'm actually REALLY anxious for are the new Ships.

Machazzard 09-04-2010 07:54 PM

And although it isn't "content", they also added Potions and Fishing levels to the weapon card, which is pretty cool. I like to see those big mastered pirates who have been slacking on their potion brewing duties haha :D

The new daggers are cool, and VERY powerful. Some of the skills, like Backstab, really make me feel like an assassin.

The throwing knives are great and give A LOT of rep if you use them right. Since they do less damage than daggers, you can strike more times (depending on your skill point placement of course) and I continually get the maximum rep capacity without wasting an asp, adder, sidewinder, or viper's nest.

Cannonfury 09-04-2010 07:58 PM

fishing is very fun! I am so anxious to see whats on the new island....watch it be lame and all my anxiousness was for nothing >.>

ex8404 09-04-2010 08:15 PM

I have to be honest. All the arguing. all the anticipation and all the excitement over fishing? Not worth the wait.

It is simply an amusing pass-time that adds nothing to the story or the lore of POTCO. Sorry. It's just my opinion so take it for what it's worth...

Kat Five Knives 09-04-2010 08:22 PM

I think the short cut to the back side of Padres ( Las Pulgas ) has been removed. I could not get through the wall on test. :(

Davy Darkrage 09-04-2010 08:59 PM

I am still able to get through it by jumping through the right-window.

Not yet, anyways. *hint hint*

I guess only people that read the quest text will realize that fishing will actually be a part of lore and storyline.

Sven Osymthe 09-04-2010 10:30 PM

Fishing may be important in the future, but that's then, this is now. Most people that are impatient, they're impatient because they want to play the fishing mini-game (which I find funny, because some were complaining about them wasting time on potions and so on), as well as find new daggers. Those two things alone are nothing to be impatient about. Once the island and story are on Test, and they've been there a while, that's reason to be impatient.

Captain Jason 09-04-2010 11:02 PM

The new daggers are sweet, and fishing is cool because you can collect fish and try to get really big ones. Plus the throwing knives do more damage then the daggers and are faster.

Read it. Don't care. Fishing gets boring and If I have to fish to play? Then I am going gray.

Edit: OK...maybe not gray. But having some NPC tell me, "Go get 6 Tuna" adds no more to the game than getting what's his name his 25th chunk of crab meat.

The Quest looks fun. Can't wait. But I don't believe that fishing is an essential part of the experience...It feels forced.

As a story-lover, I can remember that crab-lover's name very clearly. John Smith. Had to fix the Wretch for Andrew Bowdash (or King Bowdash, who lives in his Bowdash "Mansion" and hangs out at King's Arm).

Anyways, he's just correcting you about the "fishing isn't added as part of the story" thing.

titanic95594 09-05-2010 12:15 AM

Just went on test today it was fun however found 2 bugs one someone was running while fishing and when I was fishing my fishing skills went missing.

I know. That was rhetoric. :th_smellie_pirate:

My turn to correct. I never said, "fishing isn't added as part of the story." That was you. I said that fishing, "adds nothing to the story or the lore of POTCO." Big difference.

"Go catch fish" adds no more to the story than "Go count coconuts" or "Go take a nap." But I have been patiently waiting for a new quest with some depth for a long, long time. I am used to running aimless errands for local population. So catching fish or killing crabs. It doesn't matter as long as the quest is fun and takes longer than an hour.

MacIronhawk 09-05-2010 12:23 AM

I totally agree ex804, when it comes to the storyline being almost no different than going out and defeating crabs for John Smith.

Here's one thing which upsets me when it comes to quests. There's not really a uniqueness when it comes to them. It's not like there's a quest where we need to go on a mangled, burning ship in the middle of the ocean, and save someone that might be below decks, or search for a key on the ship before it sinks.

Wouldn't you agree that might be more exciting than going out and getting a few fish? I sure would, and I'm sure Disney people would agree. The probably is, I don't see the creativity in Disney any more. If they had half of the imagination of players, the game would be amazing when it comes to quests.

With that being said, look at the Ravens Cove quest text. We need to lure ghosts to grave areas and defeat them. Key word there, lure. We also need a dowsing rod to search for something according to the text.

Does this not show that they're splitting the quests between dirty work and exciting, mysterious things to do? I certainly would.

Yes Mac. I TOTALLY agree. :buds: I have read the quest spoiler thread and some of the stuff sounds like a lot of fun. The writers really are stepping up their game.

And that burning ship thing? Where do I sign up? I mean seriously. All you need is a set (three or four decks, some fire and few burning undead attacking you?) and a timer. Time runs out? Cue the sinking cut scene.

I still believe that some good is heading out way. Finally.

MacIronhawk 09-05-2010 01:23 AM

I think Disneys two biggest problems are...

A.) The small developer staff.
B.) The lack of creativity.

I honestly think they NEED a section of their site for player ideas, only when you submit an idea you agree that if your idea is used, you get nothing. No money, name on the content, etc... unless Disney wants to give you something.

Most of their ideas are pretty good, but they also need to be good at building off of others ideas. The game has potential, but they need to do something to make it exciting.

EDIT: And by exciting, I mean like aspects of boss battles in every story quest.

Tiberius Fireskull 09-05-2010 02:36 AM

It would be nice if we would have quests where we would have to sneak into some area without being seen, or as Mac said, get some key on a sinking ship. More things that are.... I dont know how to explain it, something where your pirate is actually doing something.... you know what I mean?

Robin Yerloot 09-05-2010 02:49 AM

I do believe you can send disney your ideas, from the site, MacIronhawk. Someone asked if they ever look to the forum for ideas, and their reply was that they do their best to listen to the sugestions given to them though the game or though E-Mail

titanic95594 09-05-2010 06:41 AM

Well I mastered fishing in one day getting good gold and rep on test.
