Is this guild dead?

Hey POF guys, its me again.
I have a question that maybe some of you older players can answer.

I have been playing this game for a long time and I always remember the largest, most powerful guild being a guild called The Savvy. As many of you players that have been playing for a while may remember, this was probably the most active guild for a long while. Anybody know what happened to that guild? The GM didnt leave, I checked in the pirate directory. Did he just become inactive?

Just curious because I havent seen people from that guild for well over 6 months.

Captain Del 08-12-2010 04:00 PM

I see The Savvy frequently on the leaderboards, however, seeing as they aren't updated much, it doesn't approve nor deny your question.

I haven't seen many of their members around either (perhaps 1 or 2 here and there,) which seems as a shock, seeing as how I always used to see them around. However, just because you don't see them around much, don't automatically assume they're with the dead and the gone. It's a possibility their members hang out on Quiet Servers nowadays, and aren't as common as seeing around.

Sven Osymthe 08-12-2010 04:03 PM

I have quite a few friends who were in the Savvy, and they have since moved on to a new guild. I don't know the details, but I don't think The Savvy is as active anymore.

They haven't updated in months, so it wouldn't make a difference.

Cannonfury 08-12-2010 04:13 PM

yes they are mostly gone, most of the savvy have left because the gm and co-gm quit and most went to the guild...the w a n t e d

Tiberius Fireskull 08-12-2010 05:19 PM

Ah I see. Thanks guys. I do agree with you guys how it is a shock not to see them around much. They used to be around all the time

Ofury/ Tom 08-28-2010 03:37 PM

The Guildmaster no longer plays and neither does co gm therefore those you see are people attempting to keep a guild without a guildmaster which is hard to do. The guildmaster left due to rl issues and didn't plan to come back.

Very sad when that has to happen, I know disney has added vetern rank but I do wish that they could accomodate a transfer of guildmaster or add co-gm rank. An in game guild message board or mail box would be helpful as well.

Agreed. Especially a guild as big and well known as The Savvy.

MacIronhawk 08-31-2010 02:21 AM

I'm not going to lie, I've never heard of them. The most active guild I remember during the start of POTCO was the Emerald Sea Gang(ESG) and they've seemed to be less active lately, also.

I wouldn't know, really. I stick more to BBK, and haven't really noticed the activity of other guilds, although I'm sure that unless they were brought down by some disdainful person, they're probably still very active.

Big guilds usually don't die that often, or die at all. Look at McRaging. They're on the leaderboards all the time, and because the name is heard so often, they'll probably never "die".

If the Savvy is a big guild, it's unlikely they'll ever go away. It's near impossible to start a guild up now, since the majority of people in the game are either already in a guild, or looking for a big guild. The only guilds that actually have to worry are guilds with 50 members or less.

Tiberius Fireskull 08-31-2010 02:41 AM

Aye, Emerald Sea Gang was around for a long time... but even the biggest guilds dont last forever. Just one little thing happening can totally destroy a guild. I know of a guild, where a big argument happened, and members started leaving, and the guildmaster eventually left. And once the guildmaster leaves, the guild crumbles. I knew another one that was quite successful, and I personally knew the guildmaster. His gf was in the guild, and when they broke up, she left... and about 200 members followed her. The gm stopped playing, and I have only seen one member of the guild since.

My point is, that no matter how successful a guild has been, I have never seen one that I saw when I started playing the game, in 2008, still be very active right now. First, most people were seeing Emerald Sea Gang around, then (at least for me) it was The Savvy. Now, I see McRaging around a lot.

They're still very active, although the GM doesn't log in as much. They still have a way to contact him though, if anything happens.

Having less than 50 members doesn't necessarily mean the guild will die. Quality is better than quantity, and if members still log in, the guild isn't dead. All it means is that it will be more difficult to find members. It's still possible though, look at PNC, they went from being created to having 100+ members.

I have to agree though, a lot of the guilds that my pirate grew up around are either dead or dying. Of course, I'm not saying all of them are, which is a good thing.

And I partially have to agree with Mac as well. It tooks us over a year to hit 100 mark (though I have to admit, we aren't the kind of ones to spend our time out and recruiting... LOL :D) mainly because of the wide variety of guilds running around. According to the Pirate Guild numbers, theres, what, over 700,000 guilds? Thats 699,999 competitors (unless you want to subtract all the guilds that are dead, but I don't have a calculator that big) you have to beat out in order to find those little gems we call "good seeds." Creating a guild is significantly tougher these days than back in 2008.

Of course, that doesn't mean guilds can't have growth spurts over night. There are guilds here on POF that have passed 100, 200, even 300 members in their first few weeks. Not exactly am I saying that they guilded the most active, nicest players, and nor is this directed at anybody, but still.

What's today's Lessons of the Day? Quality Over Quanity, Your Pirate's Childhood is Slowy Dying, and stuff like that.

Don't forget test! A few of the guilds named spend alot of time on test with the new updates attempting to report bugs, etc to ready the updates for live. The more well-known guilds spend a great deal of time doing just this-not to slight other guilds which also go on test. Just wanted to add that since I didn't see the fact posted. <<Back to lurking & rl>>

I know what you mean, but it's not impossible. You need to devote yourself to your guild. I did it a couple of months ago, so there's proof... just don't give up :pirate91:

finn 08-31-2010 08:43 PM

the savvy is now gone whiped out the gm left and everything

Tiberius Fireskull 09-01-2010 12:52 AM

The Co. Empire was pretty big... then I stopped seeing them. One day I ran into the GM and found him in another guild, and I asked him why he left the Co. Empire. He told me he destroyed it. I find that really incredible that someone would do that... to their own guild...

Sven Ironwalker 09-09-2010 06:10 PM

I have been wondering about the Savvy this month as well. Glad to get at answer to that question but so sad that that had to happen to it... it was a huge guild.

Redfoote Vader 09-13-2010 05:08 AM

Just noticed this thread. I was in The Savvy for like a year and a half. Joined them when the guild was only 2 weeks old.

I was one of only about 20 officers, we had a ton of members but very few officers so it was really an honor to be an officer in such a great and active guild.

As has been mentioned, the GM and Co-GM hooked up in real life and pretty much decided to leave the game to persue their future together. They tried to keep it going by handing their accounts over to other trusted officers but it just didn't work out.

A lot of guildies went to The WANTED, others went to a guild that was started by a former Savvy mate...GM of Corsairs Covenant, Mark Cannonmalley. Others went on to various guilds like Warlordz Rising (which i now think are also gone) a few went to McRaging, and i know The Almighty Clan has some former Savvy mates.

I will always have very fond, special memories of The Savvy. Had a lot of great times with them.

I had a pirate in their guild for a few weeks. They were great, but I took him out of it when I made Shadow Sorcerors. Thanks for the info Vader.

Do you remember a gent named Enrique? He was in it along with some other people I know. I'm mentioning him because he is on our guild's "Council*" (Which seems to be unique to us) and is a master pirate now. And I mean fully mastered. He often reminiscences of his time in the guild and keeps in touch with other members. Just wondering.

And no, it is not impossible to create a good guild nowadays, our guild went from about 5 Original members to 100 some in a few months. And beleive me, they are polite, they know that if they aren't we will get out the whip!:piratewhip:

Perhaps they are prvoked the court used to be very large over 400+ till i had some mate try and delete the guild i stopped him then i had other officers try it i had no idea of who to trust so i delete most of the guild to get a fresh start with much stricter rules

I fear that this may happen to my guild, I blame Disney and their lack of updates on the main quest.

lol not the 1st time i've heard of a gm of another wellknown guild (on the leaderboards too, but i wont name it) hooking up with his co-gm in real life, & yup in this case the co-gm is already married in rl, they both left the game recently a little over a month ago.

Lol we're not gone, those of you that don't know/realize, Warlordz is still around, we were even in Guild Spotlight this summer, just under the original guild name nowadays. I'm an officer of it, Warlordz Rising & Dark Warlordz is made up the same people literally. Dark Warlordz's gm's (real life) wife is the gm of Warlordz Rising. After her hubby took a break from potco, she went to make Warlordz Rising, coz she wanted her own guild. Her hubby decided to come back to potco around the time the new inventory & weapon looting came around earlier this year, so guild merged back into Dark Warlordz :)

I do remember Enrique, haven't seen him in a long time, hope he's doing well.

Hope you weren't talking to me when you say it's not impossible to create a good guild nowadays. I've never stated it was, in fact, i know several good/successful guilds.

They weren't married before game, if one of them actually told you that then they must have been joking with you. Both Law and Kat were honest, respectful people that just wanted folks to have fun and enjoy the game...be respectful to all other guilds and pirates.

Thanks for the update. I've seen Dark Warlordz around quite a bit and figured they were related to Warlordz Rising, i just kinda thought Rising was dead cuz i never see any of them around anymore. I do remember DW being featured in the guild spotlight, good stuff.

I have a good idea as to whom you are referring to when you mention GM of wellknown guild on the leaderboards lol. My main pirate, Davy Redfoote, is also on the overall leaderboards for both Enemies and Ships and i'm very familiar with a lot of the folks and guilds that are on there. I'm friends with about 20 of the top 100 pirates. Pretty sure i know which GM you are talking about hehe.

Wish they would fix the leaderboards, i used to enjoy looking at them etc.

Dann Jacques 10-20-2010 03:48 PM

.....geez, I leave for a year, and look what happens to my guild! LOL

The Savvy will live long in the hearts of those who were under her wing. In the meantime, it's up to the rest of us to take what we've learned, and pass it on....

....not to mention it's time for me to figure out all this new stuff in the game that I've missed....that'll teach me to take a hiatus.....but RL does have a way of setting priorities....

Tiberius Fireskull 10-20-2010 03:55 PM

Aye, The Savvy was a great guild. I had one of my pirates in it for a while. I won't forget them.
