What game do you guys think will win Game of Year?

These in my opinion have the best chance:

1. Halo Reach- This game in my opinion has the best chance at winning GoTY because of being upgraded in every way imagined and redefining halo games. It may only be single platform but with new campaign, Firefight 2.0, Forge 2.0, and an entire new engine.

2. Call of Duty: Black Ops- Being Multi-platform this game has a good chance, but it's basically just a New campaign with new weapons.

3. Fallout: New Vegas- Considering that Fallout 3 won GoTY it's entirely possible that this game may win although with it's competition it's doubtful. This game is adding New weapons, New World, New Campaign, and much more.

4. Super Mario Galaxy- I don't really know much about this game, but a lot of people say it's good.

5. Mass Effect 2- This game was good, but in my opinion won't win GoTY.

6. Medal of Honor- Leaving the World War 2 theater and going Modern is a huge leap of faith, but after playing the beta this game looks to have potential.

7. Battlefield Bad Company 2- This game brought a new multiplayer, a new Campaign, New leveling system, and new weapons.

8. Red Dead Redemption- This game probably has the best graphics of any game being released this year. It has exellent gameplay and storyline, and the multiplayer is really fun. Also with 1 DLC out and 4 more on the way there won't be a shortage of content for a while.

So what do you guys think will win GoTY.

The Skirata Clan 07-24-2010 05:53 AM

POTCO!

Seriously, I have no clue I haven't had the chance to play any of those. I have played a selected few like No More Heroes 2.
Since they have a whole bunch of categories all of them can win something.

Raikel 07-24-2010 08:33 AM

Actually, you forgot Red Dead Redemption. Though it wasn't exactly my favorite game, it shouldn't be left out for two reasons.

1. It is a dynamic action western that is better than all others.

2. Rockstar games made it, so people seem to like it no matter what.

Pirate Lord 07-24-2010 09:41 AM

I'm a CoD player, I'm gonna have to go with Black Ops. MW2 was HUGE and they expect more sells on BlackOps than MW2's premier.

jason davy 07-24-2010 12:24 PM

Reach because of its new technology and pure awesomeness, or Red Dead because of its production cost.

Dog Firestack 07-24-2010 12:47 PM

Halo Reach.

Buck Seahawk 07-24-2010 02:09 PM

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep

Most of the ones on top (except for Super Mario Galaxy) are pretty much the same and not original like the Kingdom Hearts series is. I've never seen any game like Kingdom Hearts. Every shooter is very similar even if they have different modes and guns.

Privateer 07-24-2010 03:25 PM

Tron: Evolution! So what if it's a game based on the movie. Check out the footage of it at E3.
Next Year: The anticipated release of Star Wars The Old Republic. Check out its website.

Yeah I meant to add that, but I forgot. It's probably one of the best open world shooters released this year, and a lot of people I talk to like it so it has a good chance at winning.

Sven Osymthe 07-24-2010 03:46 PM

There's really no way to narrow it to one. Fallout and Red Dead Redemption could both have a shot at winning. One because the game doesn't tell you how to play (sure there are quests, but you play a big role in what happens), and one for having a good story, with a nice "ending". Another could be Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. If the game is half as good as they are making it sound, it should have a chance.

JackGoldStack 09-26-2010 07:01 PM

Red Dead Redemtiopn, Assassin Creed Brotherhood

Red Dead Redemption is very very awesome it has the best graphics and very nice story, And Of Course Assassin Creed Brotherhood even the Second one and the first one have a very beautiful story The first one is basically around Jerusalem, Acre, Damascus and around the Turkey in the second one is around Italy which you have Florence, Venice, And many many more places and the Third one is in Italy too which you play as Ezio Auditore ( the character you play in the second one when hes young ) and in Assassin Creed 1 The character of it if the Grand Grand Grand Grand father of Ezio Auditore which is Altair and they are the Ancestors of Desmond Miles.. Really Awesome Story And one thing Assassin Creed 2 have the best soundtrack and really epic

Ropeburn 09-26-2010 07:05 PM

BioShock 2 all the way!!! Due to its unique style. :D

Jibby 09-27-2010 12:41 AM

I've only played Reach, so I can't say much, but if only Portal 2 came out, it would destroy everything else. The first game got something like 80 rewards, that's what is says on the box.

Tiberius Fireskull 09-27-2010 01:26 AM

I have no clue... but I'm really looking forward to the force unleashed two

lego universe
Well, it won't be based on my opinion, but Halo Reach is just plain popular.
Wonder if jack sparrow plays? :pirate2wn0:

Jack Shipsteel 11-02-2010 10:52 PM

Your making me pick between my 3 favorite games this year...

Mass Effect 2- RPG that continues to build on the foundation laid out for it. One of the great conflicts between good and evil.

Red Dead Redemption- Rockstar made this game into a franchise. A few years back, Red Dead was associated for more classic shooters. Now, it's a western style Grand Theft Auto.

Halo: Reach- The last, or the first, if you understand the timeline of Halo, story of the Spartan program as delivered to you by Bungie. A great game all-around, known for it's multiplayer.

In my opinion, so far, the winner is Halo: Reach. This game lives up to the expectations of Halo fans and offers more to the storyline of the Halo Franchise. A re-vamped weapon system, more weapon differences, and of course, never forgettable Multiplayer mode. This is Bungie's last year with the game, and for that reason, along with it's oustanding gameplay, will be the reason it wins the coveted Game of the Year.

But don't leave out Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood just yet. Explore early 16th century Rome, and mold History into shape. The underdog, but the new multiplayer system may win the crowd over.

I disagree. The multiplayer is completely revamped, and Treyarch seems to have taken up NOT SUCKING for once. If MW2 could get a nomination, then I know BO could, too. While the campaign doesn't have TOO many new things going for it, just look at some of the official trailers (like the launch trailer) and tell me it won't be epic. :P

Medal of Honor and the new Fallout failed to impress. I actually ended up taking MoH back. Fallout, mehish. Not good. RDR however, might be nominated. Might even win. It was good...

Captain NightWolf 11-08-2010 05:20 AM

The Halo series, while popular, is getting old while the CoD series just keeps getting better and better...Black Ops is destined to smash what MW2 did by far...it does have stiff competition from BF:BC2...and of course Fallout: New Vegas...

Agreed. And have you seen the new "There's a soldier in everyone" trailer? You gotta admit, Activision has the best marketing of anyone. Reach had hardly any TV spots on major networks and I am yet to see a Fallout commercial. Marketing plays a role in the GotY decision, because, the more people that love the game the better. Many people say that Fallout and Halo don't need advertising, which I laugh at. Would nearly as many people bought Halo 2: ODST if they didn't see the epic trailer? I'm guessing not. Fallout is a game that is a cult-classic, really, and I've never been a fan. Maybe if they out some of the new features in a trailer that is publicized, and most importantly, worth watching, more might buy it. In my opinion, many base their opinions on a game BEFORE they buy it because they don't want to waste money on a game that they've "heard" isn't so good. Same reason I never bought many games until recently, and thought "Hey, this ain't too shabby..."

EDIT: Screenshot from the "There's a soldier in all of us" trailer. Capitalism+Marketing=Good

Captain NightWolf 11-09-2010 06:27 AM

Actually there have been preview clips on TV for Fallout: New Vegas and I've seen some clips for Halo Reach as well...

But to me, it seems that while I remember when Halo first came out, it now has lost it's roots whereas both the CoD series and Fallout series keep expanding...

And honestly, if anyone should have the title for best marketing it would be Valve/Steam...if you play Team Fortress 2 you'd know what I'm talking about...the way they constantly update/upgrade the game with new stuff in their mischievious way with fake stories/ads, or subtle hints as to what's coming up...or even better yet their re-directs to throw you off...but then again that's Valve...

Shame Portal 2 won't be out until next year...it probably would've swept the GOTY...and next year it'll have competition with the newest Bioshock...and the new MechWarrior if they get it released...

Oh and of course Duke Nukem finally coming out of vaporware...heh who says PC gaming is dying or is dead...it's the best it's ever been...that's why the console kiddies had to tap into our platform and take our games...because pc gaming is the best platform...

WitchdoctorDan 11-09-2010 11:43 PM

I agree with the PC gaming. I was playing PC games since the Commodore came out. :laughks2: Bioshock, I doubt. I never liked it in the first place. Portal and MechWarrior I've never heard of, therefore illustrating the importance of marketing. Steam has it's flaws, but hey, better than Games for Windows Live. I do like the fact that CoD:BO has dedicated servers (YES!) and modding tools back, but honestly, I'll probably be playing it on Xbox. Duke Nukem, well, it's been long enough. All I can say is, it better be good. I would, as an old school PC gamer, say that PC gaming is in a hurt position. We are slowly losing all the good stuff we had. The last game with any GOOD PC only content that came out was GTA 4. Now everything is either PC only, or the same thing as consoles. Now, with motion and 3D gaming on consoles, I just hope something new happens to the PCs fast. If not, it may be in trouble. people get tired of the same thing. Consoles are always changing, and PCs aren't. Just because I am a veteran PC gamer doesn't mean I just ignore these facts. What do we have that they don't, really? The Sims? Starcraft? It is doing WORSE than before, and the only thing I can look forward to is faster computers. Sorry if my gloomy outlook saddens you, but hey, I'm a realist.

It's Halo 3: ODST, Witchdawkta.

Marketing matters, yes, about 5%. The rest is on pure game performance.

Fallout: New Vegas is one of those games that was started way back when, and has maintained a cult, as some would say, but the game has since evolved. It is no longer a Cult Classic, but a RPG-shooter game based upon Post-Apocalyptic America, and the regression of the people there. It appeals to a broad amount of people, whether you're purely interested in shooting mutated monstrocitys, want a good an humourous storyline, or are interested in just wasting your time in a virtual casino, with actual ways to get kicked out of the places.

Halo: Reach is NOT a game of a dying franchise. People are upset that Bungie is no longer going to make the games for the franchise, but this Bungie era ended with nothing less than a Bang. You have your classic campaign against all-odds, which tells the beginning of the storied games, your multiplayer, where you can slaughter as much people as you see fit, or Forge, where imaginations run rapid.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is what it is, a shooter. CoD has always been known for its multiplayer, and people will once again triumph against others using this new engine, with the campaign largely ignored. But, you cannot knock it, for it appeals to millions for its gameplay, whether you want to climb the ranks and become a trained killer or just waste away goofing off with friends.

Just though I'd sneak in, not let any of those games get run over or trounced.

Roger Sharkshot 11-10-2010 05:14 AM

as a person who has played both Halo Reach and Black Ops and taking into perspective the marketing I frankly like Black Ops better yes reach is good and all with its new things but just by a little bit i say Black Ops will beat reach

Captain NightWolf 11-10-2010 04:49 PM

@ WitchdoctorDan...

Heh...you're not alone my friend...I too have been playing on the PC since my first Vic 20 hooked up to the tv back in 1980...then of course there was the whole Tandy computers aka Trash 80's etc...

As for the above games, trust me when I tell you that if you were to get Portal...once you start you won't stop until you finish...it's a FPS game wherein you're the test subject with only a gun that opens "portals" which you need to strategically use to complete physics puzzles...by that I mean you might have to put an entry portal next to you while the exit is on the ceiling...from there as you fall you shhot the entry into the floor to faster propel you so that you can traverse far distances, get over walls, etc...it's all in the timing...

And as for Bioshock...while I enjoyed the first one, the second to me was ok...was kinda cool to be the "Big Daddy" and to be able to actually walk on the sea floor...but it was also pretty much the same game as before...but as for the newest bioshock which is Bioshock:Infinite, it takes you away from the sea floor and Rapture and puts you up in the sky at another far out place...do a search and check out the vids on it...it's getting raves just from what they're showing so far...

As for pc gaming...I think the first big step they've taken so far is all this 3D gaming stuff since it's rather popular at the moment with many current movies...and there are new inventions and tricks coming down the pipeline in the future from what I've read...I don't think PC gaming will ever go away...in fact it's better then it's been in quite some time...

Actually, Halo: Reach IS the last Halo game. I mean, if anyone besides Bungie makes it, is it really Halo? And they're signing on with Activision. Let's ask Infinity Ward how that turned out for them. And I never said there was anything wrong with Black Ops, in fact, I love it. My favorite franchise ever. Not sure how you got I was trouncing it. And I know that it is Halo 3: ODST but it takes place during Halo 2. I often do that to upset the fanboys. *clears throat*Jack*clears throat*

Pirate J 11-11-2010 10:28 PM

Apparently Black Ops ins't as good as Mw2, multiplayer isn't as good, story and even worse the graphics! Treyarch isn't as good game makers as Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare: Great Success makers: Infinity Ward, W@W: Not that good :/ Makers: Treyarch, Modern Warfare 2: HUGE Success $10 Billion Makers: Infinity Ward, Black Ops: Same as W@W Makers: Treyarch. Treyarch maybe better Advertisers but not the best game company, I personally think that Black Ops will only sell because it's in the CoD series and the Zombie mode.

The Halo Franchise isn't dead, but it won't be the same. Halo without Bungie is like GTA without Rockstar. However, it will continue. Someway, somehow.

Me, personally, don't see the point of all the CoD games. The First Modern Warfare was spectacular, and World at War wasn't too shabby. Just, too many coming out too quickly. Not a fan.

I also posted that to compare all the three games, for those seems to be the talk of the town these days. Most people were just putting Blacks Ops way over the head of the other games, so I just wanted everybody to know what's what, gamer or not.

And yes, I know Halo 3: ODST was set in New Mombasa, right after the Covenant carrier opened a slipspace drive. But it's the title of the game.

I agree, with everything. BUT especially the CoD part. You see, Activision is milking CoD for money. Infinity Ward was fired for wanting 3 years to make a SPECTACULAR MW3, but that was too long for Activision. Imagine how perfect Black Ops would be if they had more time? Probably be unbelievable, but still, I congratulate Treyarch for making it as good as it is in about two years. And yes, Halo will continue. Why? Because Microsoft knows money when they see it. And, I believe ODST was supposed to be an expansion pack for Halo 3, therefore it was named that.

Jack Shipsteel 11-11-2010 11:24 PM

Aye, ODST was even supposed to be only $40 instead of the usual $60, and was called Recon, but it was changed to a $60 new game.

WitchdoctorDan 11-12-2010 12:26 AM

I don't understand why the newer Halo games aren't for Windows. I mean, I still have to play Halo 2 (patched for XP) and would like something new. PC multiplayer is vastly superior. The short thing is, MICROSOFT FAILS.

Nelly Darkpaine 11-12-2010 12:28 AM

I love Red Dead Redemption.... and the new DLC content - UNDEAD NIGHTMARE! Sweet stuff there! Western Free Roam + Zombies = Epic Awesome.

J,

I would suggest playing the game before trashcanning it. Multiplayer is completely overhauled, the game is beautiful (Especially WMD) and the weapons are innovative. The maps are creative, and the attachments (Like underbarrel flamethrower). The differences between W@W and BO are as big as the differences between CoD2 and MW. This trumps MW2 to me. The story has some grand curveballs, epicness, and it ISN'T historically confined like WaW was. These are Deniable Operations, not the life of some Joe Shmoe soldier.

Captain NightWolf 11-16-2010 04:27 AM

MW2 had no storyline...the single player campaign was nothing but mashed up scenarios and gimmicks (aka the airport)...and the multi?

Let's see...no dedicated servers...that whole match thing bites...etc and so on...

Black Ops by far trounces MW2...in both single and multiplayer...

And nothing for nothing, but I like Treyarch and I actually enjoyed [email protected]@W should've been CoD3, not that console craptastic game that was out...I still love playing WWII shooters...it's like reliving history to me...tis why I like those and the MoH WWII games and of course the brilliantly done Brothers in Arms series...

swordshot 11-16-2010 04:31 AM

Black Ops!

Nate Swordwalker 11-16-2010 05:08 AM

Black Ops definitely has some great online play. Was playing a couple days ago at a friend's house... Got him to level 25... :D

WitchdoctorDan 11-17-2010 02:31 AM

Aye, and PENTAGON ZOMBIES!!??? Best game mode ever. What's better than defending the Pentagon against zombies while listening to JFK and Richard Nixon spin one-liners? :P Still, GotY is up for grabs, and the new Assassin's Creed looks pretty cool...

Angry Birds should have won that award.

Homefront
Mass Effect 3
Rage
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

All I got so far, but there'll be more added.

probably COD black ops, but I'd like MAG to win. its a really hard and fun game.

The only probably with ME 3 is that it won't be coming out until right around the VGA's. Will it make the time limit?

And I saw the preview for Skyrim, and found that one pretty cool, but I'm still undecided over Homefront. The story itself sounds promising, but do I really want another CoD knockoff? If it's entirely a new thing, than maybe it's worth a look. Haven't heard of that last one.

I believe we should add the new CoD (whatever it will be called) into that list. A few sources said it will have a change to it, along with missions in space, and will be made by a company that has some Infinity Ward devs in it. Maybe MW3? *crosses fingers*

Jack Shipsteel 01-13-2011 12:24 AM

Now, if I see some Space Battles, like honest to goodness space battles, not just ones where you're in a spacestation, I might consider buying that one.

I forgoed Black Ops, just because I felt that the time period was moving backwards. Once your in Modern Warfare, don't go back to a Vietnam game!

WitchdoctorDan 01-13-2011 01:18 AM

Well, they wanted to do something fresh. Activision soured on MW because of the IW thing and Treyarch personally SWORE that they would not go back to WWII because of all the demanding little kids that said WaW was bad. (It had some of the best gametypes ever. "Ground War" is missing from every game now.) And it's not just about Vietnam, trust me. It spans from the Bay of Pigs until the JFK assassination. And it has a great storyline if you liked (SPOILER!) Fight Club.
