Switching our accounts?

I don't know how long this has been in the log in window, but I just noticed it today. I wonder how this will work with the higher level pirates if they switch our account back and forth between unlimited and basic. lol

Please Note: Your Beta test account will either have Basic Access to the game, which is what will be available free to players when the game launches, or Unlimited Access, which will be available through a paid subscription. We also might switch your account back and forth between these during the Beta. We look forward to hearing your thoughts on both!

SandySeashore 10-18-2007 03:10 PM

Yea, I saw that yesterday too. I wonder how and when they are going to do that.

uhmayzing 10-18-2007 07:59 PM

yeah it just showed up yesterday for me. i was thinking that maybe the people who have problems chatting are the ones that randomly got restricted access. even though they put down their real age and such. perhaps since there were so many bug reports about chat not working right they added that as a disclaimer so people will realize why?? dunno.

Pirate Rose 10-18-2007 08:40 PM

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. I just posted asking somebody if they had the basic or unlimited access. It'll be interesting to see.

Rob 10-19-2007 05:08 AM

Welp, they just switched my account from unlimited to basic. I am level 28 (3/4 to 29) and was pushing to get to 30 to see the voodoo staff quest and weapon. Now, experience appears to be locked as anything I kill will not gain me new experience.

Some skills for weapons have been locked as well as grenades all together. This pretty much leaves me in limbo in progressing any further in testing. I am not sure what I am supposed to do now considering how far I have gone, but it seems futile to log on now as I cannot do anything that I haven't already done.

I could just send multiple bug submissions, but that seems redundant considering I have already bugged what I have came across. Ah well, I guess I need to find something else to do to pass the time.

Vandelay 10-19-2007 12:26 PM

They switched mine overnight to the ad-supported as well.

So now I see little padlock symbols all over the place on my treasure chest panels. It still lets me teleport (even though it says it won't). My higher-level skills are padlocked, and my "Capture Althea" quest is now padlocked, too. I haven't played long enough to figure out whether I can still gain experience. Oh joy.

It looks like they also did a patch overnight, but I don't see any release notes on it. For example, above each player's head I can now see their level and whether or not they're in a guild. Did you "unlimited" players get this patch last night too?

GraceSunhayes 10-19-2007 01:30 PM

Yea... Just keep in mind. I'm sure they are trying it out.. they need to know how it will work before it goes live. I wouldn't worry too much. They did that on Toontown test also.

Vandelay 10-19-2007 01:33 PM

Looks like my level 17 can't earn any EXP no matter what he defeats. That's pretty much no fun, so I guess I'll just work on a new character until I get switched back.

Pirate Rose 10-19-2007 02:21 PM

You're characters are locked, but are you still as strong as you were before? I figured I would just help the new people defeat the higher levels if I'm switched to basic. Not sure I want to start all over and do everything again lol

GraceSunhayes 10-19-2007 02:21 PM

yea... odd. I think w tt test. They asked you to make new ones to check different features. Surprised they didn't this time. To have to stop in the middle tells them nothing..really.

Schmoofy 10-19-2007 05:30 PM

I pre-ordered to game to ensure I wouldn't have to put up with any ads during the time I have to play the game. I logged on and got the original beta screen from back earlier this year, including ads and such, which is what you guys are also experiencing. I can't level anything, bring out a weapon, or teleport. It's completely annoying. Then again, this is a pull for people to pre-order the game, I'm sure of it. It's fine with me right now, I'll just go play some other game, but being I pre-ordered, pssh.

Bizneo 10-19-2007 06:37 PM

At this stage of beta I wouldn't get to attached anyway, I'm sure we will see at least one more charter wipe before release.

dichuy 10-19-2007 07:11 PM

and they think they can release this for Fall of 2007? HA, I don't think so. Sigh. I know this switching comes with beta territory, but I find it annoying.

HaveAMagicalDay 10-19-2007 10:58 PM

Well, I can't even test the basic because the screen to play, it shows my character but then where it says play, it's too far down on the screen. When I try to move the window up higher, it goes back down so I can't even play! I'm using the bug report on it.

Pirate Rose 10-20-2007 01:46 AM

I heard that all the people with their names in gray are basic, and names in gold are unlimited.

You need to change your Windows screen settings to 1280x1024 resolution. Then the entire POTCO screen will fit.

goofy007 10-20-2007 04:49 AM

My account got switched today to basic. Hate the Window and the ads.:h-eek:

I agree!

I just found out tonight they switched my account to basic! That is so unfair considering I pre-ordered and others are walking around with unlimited accounts who possibly didn't! I sent them a message asking if those of us who pre-ordered could have unlimited access. They should either make everyone be basic or unlimited not split, that's just way unfair. I was so close to getting my voodoo doll. :h-mad: I know that none of this counts for my pirate in the future but it is excellent practice and will help me figure out how to pass quests faster when I have to do them again.

You pre-ordering the game has no relation or effect on your beta test account. What you pre-ordered is unlimited access to the game when it is released later this fall.

What they are doing now, is beta testing the limited or basic account with some beta users. Not all. So you're account will return to unlimited account when they are finished testing it.

I get that they are seemingly two totally separate events, but in fact there's a VERY high correlation between people who pre-ordered and people who were switched to Basic. Ask around, you'll find that it's true. So far, EVERY player I've met who got switched to Basic was also a person who pre-ordered. And that just doesn't seem fair at all. :h-mad:

Angel Lockmorgan 10-20-2007 04:15 PM

I agree that its not fair and it definitely has to do with when you pre order as I had logged in early yesterday having not pre ordered and had unlimited and a founder title. Later pre ordered and after receiving my confirmation logged on and found I was now basic, no founder and just about everything was locked including my ship!!! Very frustrating!

Ms_Moofers 10-20-2007 04:38 PM

same thing here - once I did my pre-order - BOOM - now I have a basic account - was just getting ready to make my guild and that is locked up along with skills and quests - can't even get a quest from a townsperson - if they keep basic like this, they won't have many players on basic... and since they have advertised so heavily (at least last Spring) that part of the game would be free, I think they need to rework the whole free part - at the very least, let them have fullscreen - can't see a thing (old, bad eyes) on the tiny little playing area.

Gizmo103151 10-20-2007 04:56 PM

Those with the gold over their heads are Unlimited Access.

They also kicked me back to Basic, so I did make a new character to give my feedback from that perspective but was annoyed my LvL 20 has everything locked. Sigh, I just got my grenade tasks, had purchased my steel cutlassand was gaining experience in all my other weapons.

Being new to beta testing I had no idea what to expect. Fortunately there was a nice person on last nite that explained it all to me. She said she had beta tested lots of other games.

I was saddened by the fact that you probably wont be able to keep you character.

I did rant and rave and blew off steam. I would have at least like an email notice or something they were switching some accounts.

When I went online today most all who were on are Unlimited Access. Makes me wonder how they can get an accurate report on Basic.

Owooo!! That is so not right! I pre-ordered too and I was switched. Arrrgh - well I need to finish maxing out one of my toons anyway. :agapirateju3:

amself99 10-20-2007 07:36 PM

Basic Access

My account got switched also and I think if they want to do the free then make the screen bigger like toontown does when you sign up for free. I did let them know I do not like the popup window asking you to upgrade your account right in the middle of you fighting or sailing. Last night I played to help a friend and it was horrible kept popping up several times in a row. I do hope to get unlmited access again. There is alot of tweaking to be done especially sailing. We shall see what happens. Of course TT still has its problems.

Bizneo 10-20-2007 08:01 PM

I'm also a pre-order but my account is still unlimited.

Just luck of the draw I guess. Either way it's ok, this is beta and we are here to test. I'm laying low anyway till the last character wipe.

Gizmo103151 10-20-2007 09:05 PM

I agree Ms Moofers, it is a very small screen and I have a wide monitor can you imagine those with laptops? They need to plunder some pirate glasses!

:mat:

TooHip 10-20-2007 10:19 PM

I pre-ordered and got changed to Basic. Almost seemed automatic. I had unlimited before my order, and Basic the first time I tried after ordering only hours later. Guess I wont be playing that pirate any more.

koalita 10-21-2007 01:11 AM

I preordered and was switched to Basic, but my husband hasn't preordered yet and still has Unlimited. My friend who preordered also got switched to Basic. How many others who have preordered have NOT been switched to Basic?

HaveAMagicalDay 10-21-2007 01:14 AM

They should do it this way for testing:

Pre-Order People: Get to test unlimited access

Non Pre-Order People: Get to test the Basic Version

It doesn't seem fair, in my opinion, to do this would be more fair then having pre-paid people test the basic version

I'm far into the game, and can't get rep for anything now, and the second account I made, is new, and it still gets little rep (3 rep per enemy defeated no matter how strong they are).

jadedstatik 10-21-2007 04:20 AM

I got my unlimited access back!!!!!! YAY!!!

Well you are wrong, sorry! I complained and good thing I did because I was right!

This is what it says now on the updates screen on the program when you log in:

"Beta players who pre-order will receive or keep Unlimited Access - UPDATED:

We've corrected a bug in the pre-order purchase flow that was resetting Beta test accounts with Unlimited Access to Basic Access. Beta testers who pre-ordered prior to this fix have been switched back to Unlimited Access and, going forward, any additional Beta testers who pre-order will receive Unlimited Access. We're sorry for any frustration this may have caused.

Please Note: Your Beta test account will either have Basic Access to the game, which is what will be available free to players when the game launches, or Unlimited Access, which will be available through a paid subscription. Pirate Rose 10-21-2007 06:54 AM

So has any pre-order people been switched back to unlimited from basic? I don't want to pre-order until I know I'm not going to get switched to basic.

GraceWildRage 10-21-2007 12:27 PM

My friend and guild-mate, Captain Grizzly Blackwater, was switched to basic. He had some problems pre-ordering, however, completed that task and was switched back to unlimited! Yay!

According to the release note, anybody who pre-orders now will not get switched to basic account but will keep their unlimited account until the game opens (good thing!) AND I did get switched back as well (whew!) Best of luck mate!

Angel Lockmorgan 10-21-2007 02:40 PM

I got my unlimited back yah!!

Vandelay 10-21-2007 03:22 PM

I got my unlimited access back also, woohoo! :toast:

Trident 10-22-2007 01:33 PM
