Rep. System?
 

Are we going to have a rep. system on these forums? I don't mind if we do or not, I was just curious :)

A rep (reputation) system was used on VMKF a while back, but was later taken off (then put back again, and is now off yet another time).

With the rep. system, there was a button on posts that you click on to give either good rep (for good posts, good points, good attitudes, or whatever else), or bad rep (for innapropriate posts, rude posts) to the user who created the post/thread. If you went into User CP, you could see how many rep "points" you had. There were also colored square-type things on a user's post that let everyone know what their rep. status was.

Yep, pretty much :) Only you're not really "rating" users... it's more like letting them know if their posts were good/bad ;)

Yeah, rating somebody seems mean and egotistic.

If that was the purpose of the rep system, the whole thing would be nothing more than a popularity contest, which wouldn't be too good =P

Yup, that's not good. But I bet some people were using it like that.

I kind of don't want the rep thing here. I have been working with a few of them, and I haven't liked them so far. Shows too much favoritism, I think.

Thats one of the main reasons it was taken away both times -- people were misusing it.

As of right now, we won't be including rep as a standard on any of our forums. We may from time to time turn it on for some testing, but it has too many flaws which can be exploited easily.

I personally don't want it back. People get really random rep drops from people for no reason. And people also beg for more rep.

I think it would be best to keep it the way it is.

when rep was still there i always got bad comments about a flaming post i made in 05..and it was June-July 07...

besides..i might hog up all the rep space

PS: some people gave bad red for people saying "I think that.." or "Why did you.." or disagreeing with their opinion..or even using bad grammar

I don't think that they are going to have it on this forum, because they had it on the VMKForums and it did not work out that well... so they probably won't have it.

Oh yes I remember reps! They keep coming and going so you can't keep up lol. But it wasn't that bad to rate a post gave the idea to the person's post how good it was.

Yeah I really don't like the rep system.

Why not? Just curious lol Only bad thing I can think of is that people would just rate it bad for a "Haha"

I personally, don't want rep back. When it was on VMKF, I always saw so many threads stating... " Give me better, or more rep! "

That was kind of what i said in post above you if ppl did not do that i think the rep. thing was a good idea lol
