Limited Time - Clear The Decks for Flatulent Fizz
|
Annoy your friends and others! Quick while supplies last!
Really Disney? What is going on with POTCO! Instead of bringing something good they are promoting fart jokes! Is Kevin Smith behind POTCO? Or Is POTCO being sponsored by the creators of Whoopee Cushion? Maybe those guys bought POTCO! |
Oh dang....I'm gonna spend all my time sailing now. There's no WAY I am going near the docks of Tortuga. As if the regular ones aren't bad enough....
|
Settle yerselves mates. Disney is just trying to get the little ones to laugh. I might just redeem this code to see what its like, and to watch all of the other people's reactions. Lighten up guys, no need for hostility.
|
Aye, I suppose you're right Mac. But I'm still not fully appreciative of it.
|
Right. Because there are no other ways to make kids laugh.
|
You're right Crestshot, I'm not really keen on this idea either, but I'm glad they're taking advantage of the new potion brewing, as well as the new inventory and code redemptions. This proves that at least they're trying. I'm sure this is, yet again, another "just to put something in the news" type of thing.
And The Skirata Clan, why such negativity, mate? Are you really against this that much? :) |
I wrote part of this in another post but it fits here too.
Why is it that we are playing a game that is made by the Walt Disney Company and that is rated 10+ and, yet, we are still surprised when children come and play and act like children? Or that The Disney Company will pander to their target audience? Sure there are other ways to make children laugh but comedy is hard. Why work hard when you can give them Free Flatulent Fizz? When it gets to be too much, turn the sound down. I play with no sound almost 90% of the time anyway. That being said, I still think that POTCO has become all icing and no cake. We need some new playable content and soon. |
I find this latest email to be a perfect example of Disney targeting POTCO for the younger crowd. I hope sometime soon Disney gives the more mature player something we will find equally as amusing.
|
Yes I am! They can do much better than fart sounds for fun. Wait until they do another Gm Event and the only sound will be farts left and right. They can take advantage of the new things in a better more creative way. It's insulting that a game with great potential is being degraded to fart jokes. This is not South Park, The Simpsons, or Family Guy. This is POTCO. Not even kid shows like Yo Gabba Gabba! or Spongebob resort to such a cheap comedy to entertain. I have never heard of a respectful game promoting farts.
|
...makes ye wonder if they have like...double agents...who are out to make it the laughingstock of the gaming world...sigh...it has such potential..

TSC has basically said it all for me. I agree completely. The fart thing is just ridiculous. If farting is what it takes to make kids laugh, then what has happened to kids today? What happened to teaching kids good manners and etiquette? I guess those days are over... I'm glad that the one company who always encouraged imagination and good wholesome fun must now resort to disrespectful and disgusting methods of entertainment.. |
Sadly it only lets you redeem one potion (i could whip that up in a minute)
I wish they had given us more useful potion like the invisible ones, the potion that removes grog, or rep potions (maybe people would complain less lol) And again this free stuff is available for Basic to redeem and possibly to use since it is a level 5 potion however is not redeemable on Test. Just like mother's day tattoo. on a sidenote, im afraid Father's Day 2XP reward will not show up on test in 2 weeks time either. |
Haha look, the picture even says "Guzzle this potion for Hilarious results"
In my point of view, this is a situation when someone wants this while the other wants the complete opposite... |
But who wants farts in their games? Who can possibly desire to submit their kids to a game that contains farts. I have yet seen a toy or a game that has farts. Even with the Whoopee Cushion kids get in trouble when using that because it is disrespectful.
|
You got me there, and I have to agree that POTCO has been making some very strange choices. But I shall remain loyal to the game... The world is becoming a strange place, its already bad enough that they got this kind of stuff in cartoons o_o
So from cartoons..... To games? |
I agree and disagree on many of the things you guys are saying. Sure, it is a little rediculous that they put out a farting potion, but who cares. I really don't think it's a big deal at all and don't quite understand your anger at this. If you don't like, than you don't have to participate. BUT for some, it is enjoyable and funny. I'm not saying that I'd laugh, and it may just be the child in me, but farts are funny. For those of you think that it is the end of the world when a natural bodily function takes place, that happens to make a funny sound, maybe you just need to take a chill pill. I mean really? We're going to fight over every little new article that Disney, a company that is directed toward a younger audience, puts out? And some kids do have manners and etiquette, but I wouldn't want mine to be a stiff. Kids are kids, and things that adults might not understand to be funny, are most certainly funny to them.
That is just my opinion, and I'm not trying to offend/or take stabs at anyone, but seriously, get over it. |
i used the potion and it's just a regular flatulent fizz.....
|
I think that you are way off base if you think that we are fighting or that I am angry at this. I agree farts are funny. And everyone releases them. I agree that some kids have manners. However most don't have them. Kids are kids yes and Disney is directed towards a younger audience. I just can't remember a Disney cartoon or ride that promotes poor manners. Funny is funny regardless of ages. That doesn't mean its correct. By that statement I guess that the next step for POTCO is introducing kicks to the groin.
The potion is already there. The main point is why waste time promoting and introducing things that will annoy others and are pointless while they can do so much better as far as small content and entertainment. I agree, I wouldn't want my kids to stiff kids either, however I would want my kids to be farm animals either. |
I'm not looking for a fight here. When I first saw the potion, I was disgruntled at the fact it was introduced with the new update. I understand that to some people it is amusing. What bothers me is that young kids see this, and then mimic what they see in game in real life. When I see kids who intentionally pass gas or burp out loud to be obnoxious and to get a reaction I question what kind of behavior that will lead to in the future.
Either way, the potion is already in the game. Fine. I've adapted. I avoid crowded servers and lower the volume when I hear it. But I believe I am still entitled to voice my disapproval of this potion just as you are entitled to your opinion. Bottom line, I don't see how this potion deserved encouragement through advertising. |
This is ridiculous, we should be getting codes for something less kidish.. sorry but i'm just saying :/ :(
|
Just more proof that this game is going to heck in a handbasket. =(
Used to LOVE Pirates Online, now I can't even stand logging on for 5 minutes due to stuff like this. Bad move. |
The current development team is trying to see just how much they can get away with. Sadly, there is nothing to curtail their irrational decisions, that are getting worse and worse. Why they needed to add more lag and 5-15 second game freezes, for this, is a mystery to me. I guess I just can't appreciate their genius.
Perhaps they've gotten it out of their system, with all this. Perhaps they will now sit down to some real development, now that they have gotten their way. Until then, I'll be holding my breath (but not in anticipation.) |
Sorry if I'm breaking my one year "exile" from Pirates Online (not because of updates, but RL), I just thought I'd reply to the comments left by some of you. From what I can see, some of you are saying that kids actually find this funny. Let me get this straight for you, but I AM a kid. I know of no one but irrational idiots who find fart jokes funny. No one from my age, as far as I can remember. the only people who WOULD laugh at this, are some five year olds who know the meaning of the word. No family friendly game should put this in it if they want children to learn something or the other. From my point of you, even if I did have the Flatulence potion, I would immediately dump it in the disgrace the adults working there have shown to children. Aren't they targeting 10 year olds? I know I'm a few years older, but it just isn't right, even for me if I was that age.
|
Please note that this ' new potion ' is a regular flatulence fizz. This is nothing new and you only get one. If you can't handle it take off the volume.
|
At least you cannot smell it .

Seriously. Turn down the sound or stay out of Abassa. Or give it some time. Flatulent Fizz was all the rage on test when it first became available. Now I never hear it. But I have to admit. The first time I heard it I laughed. It is pretty amusing for a one time joke. If you heard it and didn't laugh, I get that too. If you haven't heard it and are here to complain, you need to relax a little. The average human poots about 14 times a day. Even if that person has their nose up in the air. Nobody is going to learn life lessons from a kid's game. You want grown-up? Maybe you are looking in the wrong place. |
I've not been playing for a while, but really, what's up with this? At least they could make the potion give you scurvy or yellow jack.
This is a bad direction. |
Farting isn't going to bring about the end of the world. Dont like it? ignore. Plus we're pirates, we steal, we fight, we drink rum and plenty of other "Bad mannered" stuff. I suppose swinging your sword or blasting creatures in the face is more appropriate for a kids game..
Besides, this is not a kids game, this is a 'Family' game. |

If tooth loss isn't your thing, try the Yellow Jack Juice! A 15% chance your pirate will be dead in days. But not before he (Or she! We can't forget the ladies!) has vomited blood, had irreversible liver damage and a high fever! FUN! Again. If you want grown up realism, you might be in the wrong place. Don't complain about what we get. Do what I do. Complain about what we DON'T get. New chapter anyone? |
LOL, Guess you're right on that. Sounds real piratey though.
I am still hoping for some real content, too. This game was my intro to MMO's, has some strong points and great people playing. Just expressing dissapointment, I suppose. |

Or perhaps a wedgie as a special attack.

You should all come to Guild Wars. Yeah, it has its share of immature players, but they are SO easy to be rid of!!! NO rep stealing. No drop hogging. I and alot of other ex pirates are LOVING it.

And I have yet to meet a family that thinks in any way shape or form that farting and poor manners are acceptable. Quote:

You guys are missing the whole point of what I am trying to say. I am saying why waste time in such promotions instead of really trying to improve the game. Because I just don't see how farting is going to make POTCO a better game. |
I have to agree with a lot of people on here.
Farting isn't going to bring an end to the game. My god, its not like its mustard gas, now is it? Its just a silly noise the will be able to amuse the little ones for a while. Heck, I find it pretty funny! No need to over act about it. Sure, it doesn't fit in to most of Disney's values, but lets not forget: Values are sentimental, but money is physical. This is a way to keep the kids amused, because lets face it, the least thing kids want to learn about is how to politely ask a skeleton before you chop its head off, at least not in this aspect of Disney society. (And to be fair, the Imagination ride in Epcot does have fart jokes in it. Just had to throw that out there :D) Quote:

Captain Del, you've hit the nail on the head (or whatever the saying is lol). I completely, and 100% agree on everything in that post.
I mean obviously there are more important things that need to be done, but simple advertising isn't a hard task, and it is nice to see an email from the people at PotCO at least once in a while. Also, they didn' t spend any time on the potion itself, it's just the flatulent fizz with no new animations/details at all. So, I don't find it a problem that they spent time on this. All they had to do was link a potion to a code and send an email to all of their players, telling them the code. Idk, lets just move on from this topic and dream for tomorrow's newsletter :) |

Anyway...it's fart jokes. Not the end of the world. The only things that have made me angry this week have happened ON PLANET EARTH. None of them involve intestinal gas. FAKE intestinal gas. |
I think this has been blown out of proportion. There is no need to tear apart one another's posts here. I believe we have all stated our opinions on the matter.
No, this is obviously not a problem that will cause the end of the world, nor is it the biggest deal in the game of POTCO, but if some people want to be disgruntled about an addition to a game they play, I don't see the problem. I really don't understand why it warrants such sarcasm. Obviously real world problems hold more prominence in our lives, but of course, this is not a forum about real world problems. This is the last I'm going to comment on this, because I really don't want to take this any further. I've said what I've wanted to say... And I've expressed my dissatisfaction on the thread topic. I'll leave it at that. |
Um, yeah, it's just a fart potion. If you don't want it don't use it, an leave it at that. For me, I use it to amuse my nieces an nephew. They are young, they think it's funny. That's fine with me.
That said I do think it might have been nicer of them to give a free ghastly visage, which even basics can use. |
lol, kicks to the groin, a pirate can dream...
Figured I sneak back in before the door gets closed. Yes, Disney stands for entertainment that all ages can enjoy. And while Disney diligently maintain its core brand, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has always been an odd, yet interesting, exception. From the ride to the films to the game, POTC is all about drunken rogues and rapscallions stealing and running amuck. So if your knickers are in a bunch regarding lack of manners or a fart potion in the game, maybe you're playing a game that is not right for you. I am just hoping with the recent stronger focus on the younger player, they don't go all PC like they did to the ride back in the 90s. :piratear: |

Bottom Line: I wouldn't care about Guild Wars for a very long time (perhaps, eternity? idk) |
I'm actually interested to hear about other MMORPG's people play. I was very resistant to try any game when I was heavily into Potco, but I 've found another one that I like after getting a trial from a friend.
|
There is an entire forum for "Other Games" here, >> http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/f...splay.php?f=24
Just keep the discussions within the rules and boundaries of POF. I would recommend moving any discussions about these other games to that forum, and not mess up the "News" thread with this rhetorical discussion. |
Back to the Flatulent Fizz promotion and the question raised here seems to be Why would Disney Potco waste time and resources on this promotion instead of something else?
IMHO the answer is ... Because it was easy. Already an in game item, available to basic and unlimited alike. Easy, cheap humor. |
But they could have made it some VERY powerful or rare potion right? Either way it was just a promotion for people to know of the latest updates... but I detest Flatuent Fizz. Okay I'm going back to "hibernation", finally I think...
|
Why would Disney do this? It Pirates of the Caribbean Online not Pirate Who Do Not Use Gas-X Online. This "Potion" would be better on toontown in my opinion (farts are crude humor and most kid cartoons have crude humor in it). I do know this is a kids game but Disney should have some respect to the older crowd also. (Pirates of the Caribbean was a PG-13 movie...).
Edit: I read through the thread, both sides have very good points. However as a roleplayer this is a serious immersion killer. Maybe farting free servers or something? (Beside the dead servers of course) |

When they do another "free unlimited weekend" there will be a lot of farting going on. I can picture kids showing their parents the benefits of "unlimited access" now - I'm sure that will make the money just pour right in. |
Annoying? Sometimes, yes. But you have to learn to live with it. If it bothers you while you are in a certain server, common sense dictates you should leave that server. Or ignore it. IMHO some of these potions are alright, especially the weapons potions and my favorite, Ghastly Visage, but burping and farting? Not so much... But you should always remember that POTCO is marketed towards kids, and, for some reason, they think fart jokes are more entertaining than the old "penny behind the ear" trick. Just my two-cents worth...

Why would Disney waste time on "Flatulent Fizz?" Because those designing the game think it's funny; it reflects their sense of humor. But let's take a look at the RULES OF CONDUCT, #7. "...you agree that you will not Distribute any Submission that: (a) is defamatory, abusive, harassing, threatening, or an invasion of a right of privacy of another person; (b) is bigoted, hateful, or racially or otherwise offensive; (c) is violent, vulgar, obscene, pornographic or otherwise sexually explicit; or (d) otherwise harms or can reasonably be expected to harm any person or entity;..."
Throughout these four pages, there are those, including me, who find "Flatulent Fizz" both offensive and vulgar, thus violating Disney's own Rules of Conduct. |
