The Navy Cannon's.. Mini-Game?
So, we have all pretty much heard of this mysterious flag of the navy's but is it a mini-game and when do you guys think that it is coming to the test game? Also, how do you guys think the mini-game will work if the navy cannon's flag is really a mini-game? :) :/:bookishfj7::piratewheelgo2:
|
I think it will be a shooting gallery type game. See you on test later this week lol

Interesting theory mate. :)
|
well it will definitly be a mini game proof by phase files i think that it will be like shooting ships but from a distance
|
Cool, do you have pictures? :)
|
i'll get pics soon
|
Ok, thanx mate. :)
|
I am worried that it will be a remake of of "Pirates of the Caribbean Online: Cannon Assault."
Google it and tell me what you guys think. |
Ah, yes, I've seen that game. Played it as well actually. Now that you mention it, it is kind of a worry, isn't it? I'm hoping that it won't be just like that game. It's enjoyable and all, but it should stay where it is.
Now, what do you think will happen to get to these games? When we enter the cannon tower thing, do you think we'll have to climb a staircase and fight our way up? Or will we just go straight to the game? And will they introduce new types of cannon things for this or will it be the same things that we've always had? |
they will introduce new ammo types and based on the look of it it will not be a remake of cannon assualt heres the pic i promised
|
Very cool pic but I don't see how it precludes a Cannon Assault type of game. Hope it does though...
|
Huh. Nice picture! I'm not sure what to think now, but I like the new ammo idea

I haven't been able to log onto test for the last ten minutes or so and I just read why I couldn't on The Pirates of the Caribbean Online Test Server site:
We are sorry! Pirates of the Caribbean Online is temporarily closed for maintenance from 1105AM PST and will reopen at 2PM PST. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience! My guess here is that after this it will unfortunately not be an update of "new content". As much as I would have liked to see. I'm just guessing here and I hope I'm wrong about that and that it is a new game update, and not a patch or more bug fixes etc. Anyway, anyone who is going to post after me here if you do, can you please not be like mad or like "OMG someone posted another maintenance/update message again or say James stop posting maintenance messages etc -.- -_- or something like that". Please just don't. I really just want to hear what you guys think this maintenance is and other ideas on the navy cannons... mini game. Please guys. I just read that test was closed, please be nice and not negative. :):bookishfj7::piratewheelgo2: |
IDK James. Three hours is kind of a long maintenance period for a simple bug fix. And, honestly, I have not experienced any major bugs in the past coupe of weeks. It could be something new. I won't call it content yet. Mini-games are NOT content, in my book. An amusing diversion maybe but not content.

Aye, I agree. They need to sit down and say hey we should have more than "one" update a month. Mini-Games are fun and cool for about twenty or thirty minutes then it's boring and then of course more waiting. What we need as I have said is more islands like the NPC's brought up for a week or so (The Shrouded Islands) or like Raven's Cove/Raven's Cove Island. :) "One" Update a month like what we saw in May is not much. Especially with what you just said mate. Kids are going to be out of school, and if they want to bore kids with "mini-games" until we have some real "new content" idc. But seriously, if they added more than one update a month to test and then releasing each update to live from test one at a time (for example: release the rest of the mini-games fishing, the land cannons etc to test and we test those along with another update like the shrouded islands for a week or so, then they choose which update is ready for live.) It would really speed things up a little on the game. :) :/:bookishfj7::piratewheelgo2:

All they need is one good update. The one we have all been PATIENTLY waiting for. A rip-snorting, no-holds-barred, exciting, funny, tragic, caution-to-the-wind, extra-long, extra-large killer-diller of a new chapter.
Give us that and the rest is icing on the cake. Right now, what we have is all icing and no cake. |
Aye, I agree. I guess we should keep sending in feedback then in the game or to member services. That's how I send my feedback about updates etc. Anyway :/ I hate that they did not update The Developer's Diary for us to see what we can expect or even a newsletter? I mean how hard is that? A lot of us here have been playing since Day 1 or the first or second month in 2008 if I'm right, please correct me if I'm wrong here but we really do need something to make this game awesomer like the second story chapter. I believe GM Events and stuff where a GM comes and acts out a story is good for a coming story chapter, But I think they are getting a little old now, and it is making me wonder if they are just making the current events happening in the game now "the story chapter" that we all have been waiting for.. :) :/ I hope im wrong though. Edit: It is now 5:11 p.m. Eastern Time and The Test Server is still closed and I believe that it is past 2 p.m. Pacific Time. Edit 2: It is now 5:34 p.m. Eastern Time, and The Test Server is back but sadly no update. I'm really getting tired of these maintenance's if they are not gonna "release" some new content. Honestly... -.- -_- :'( :( :/
|
Hopefully something big gets released by (at the latest) the end of this month. Then again, i'm not gonna anticipate anything outside of the ordinary. It may be nearing Summer time, but then again, last year had an uneventful (well, GM events aren't counted) Summer in the game.

YOu sure? I can't get on from the web so I"m guessing it is still closed. Did you get through the block somehow by accident? They might still be adding new content because of the long update into the game.

Yes, test is back up. :/

Alright everyone, it looks like today is the day, the big update is out and so it the Navy's Cannons game! You play the game by going to a guy by the flag near the fort. It looks like about five people can play at once. It works quite similar to regular cannoning on a ship, except you can shoot six rounds before reloading instead of three. You level just the same as everything else, and I think you can get new ammo types when you level up, but since I have basic access only the regular shot was available. I played on Padres Del Fuego, and it was pretty hard, but I guess it might be easier on other islands. The first time I crashed before I could sink anything, but I logged in again and was able to get to level two. Have fun!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay, I have some additional information. I rejoined the game after I leveled up and I had reset to level one. Also, it looks like you can get several more ammo types, I think four with basic access and many more with unlimited, but, the only other problem is that you have to but it with "cash" that only exists in the mini-game. As of now I haven't gotten enough to buy the next ammo up. It also seems to have many bugs, as I crashed again. |
For the time I waited for these mini games I grew gray hairs, I am in my 20's. I am tired of putting puzzles together, and getting on a cannon in heaven to rain down on ships with eternal wrath. I waited 3 or 4 weeks for the last update to come, and am not really happy to see that we were neglected new islands that are supposed to be coming really soon. Would be more fun if you could shoot at a Volcano at Padres to erupt it onto ships. Or shoot at the Kraken when playing on Port royal, but that is not the case. You do the same thing at every place, and you sort of get tired of it after a while.

Some how, I have a feeling Disney is losing its creativity.
What happened to all the good idea people? The players have better ideas than the developers, or if the developers have good ideas, their bosses are saying, "No, no, those are too adult, we need to target kids." The game is held back by the target aduience. If kids weren't the main goal for the game, and developers worked on what they think is cool, I think the game would be better. Unfortunately, Disney probably doesn't think online games is a billion dollar industry.(when it is) |
If kids weren't the target, it could be like Pirates of the Caribbean Armada of the Damned. Looking both good and worth the pay check you spend on it.

Anyway...I still think the Cannon Mini-Game is a let-down. I am not a huge fan of Space Invaders style play. If I was, the Internet is FULL of free casual games that would occupy me for years. |
I think the Cannon Defenses Mini-Game is like one of those games when you are at a Theme Park/Amusement Park in the Arcade Section of the park, and it's like the shoot out game. Anyway, I agree with you guys, Disney needs to realize that adults "and" kids play this game ,and they also need to make Pirates Online a more exciting game with things like: exploring "new creepy, dangerous, shrouded islands", and like I always have requested before we "need" the kraken. Today It was really an awful sight, I was at the Father's Day GM Event with GM Ben Bowman, Thatch Roberts, and Old Sooty. It was really fun to see them all finally answer questions about things in the game and about cannons. Until, someone said "How come Disney lied about the kraken?", then everyone wanted to know where the kraken was, and why it was not in the game etc. I, myself asked If we would see sea monsters in the game this summer ?, but the GM's rudely left and avoided the question. The only thing that one of the GM's (Old Sooty) did though was stay for a second and then say "I must be off. Fair Winds". I don't know what happened last year and the year before that with Disney on their end saying stuff about the kraken coming into the game and it did not end up coming. But I seriously, think that the GM's dont care about it and don't want to answer "kraken related questions". All in all, I think that this game that we all play needs to be more action-adventure packed like the movies. I feel like that is failing with more and more mini-games being released. Sure, they are fun but we need "those islands", and other "promises" in the game that have been talked about. This is my review about how the game is doing so far, please don't take it that I am complaining.:bookishfj7::piratewheelgo2: :peopirate07bouncele:

I myself enjoy cannon defense, but the huge flaw I see is not letting us keep the level we gain. The highest wave of ships I've been able to get to now is eleven. And there are, what, eighteen?
I could see cannon defense being used in some quests. Possibly the new fishing, too. All these minigames could be areas in a new storyline we'll need to do, and the developers want us to have more fun, instead of fighting enemies over and over again. But who knows, only the developers. I feel sorry for them, because it feels as if all their creativity is going down the drain because some boss and Disney doesn't think it's good enough. |

Pirates, as I understood the term, were sailors who attacked other ships on the high seas, for GOLD... arrrr....
And pirates sometimes got together and attacked towns from their ships, then landed and took the town's GOLD... arrr... Now someone explain to me what Pirates are doing PROTECTING towns and the town's gold? I think Disney's lost their marbles somewhere, or none of them had a healthy childhood, pretending to board ships, then land on lonely islands and bury treasure. Eye patches were a must also. I'm sure science and genetic engineering in the future will allow for purple people, tiny and big people, muscle and skill enhancements etc., but pirates lived in 1740, not 2140. And I somehow doubt pirates acquired genetic altering potions by playing computer puzzles, but I didn't live back then, so I might be wrong here... And... does it occur to anyone else besides me that they didn't put these cannons inside the actual game because they are trying to AVOID coding for the actual game? |

My shots are only 57% hit at best, and being able to shoot faster might help.(As in, I'll need to wait for this to hit open before I can own at cannon defense) It's really challenging, and I like that, along with potions. Both these minigames are going to entertain me for some time before anything major comes out. Really wish big D would also put some of those bandit flags and colors onto our ships...(I want a black flag with skull and cross bones! Should have been here at day 1!) |
As said before, ship work needs to be worked on accordingly. Nothing feels like being a real pirate, and it would seem as if all Pirates are good in this game... I don't really care to sink enemy ships, but would like to take them over. You lower the ships health to nearly nothing, and you swap the enemies deck. But you know, why just kill them all, you're a pirate, you love gold. Hold the maggots for Ransom, make the Navy pay for their soldiers back.

I still kill enemies and try, just not getting my hopes up for anything much.
