Anyone becoming a "Founder"?

I just got an email from POTCO trying to sell me monthly access to the game once it's live. Everyone else get this tonight?

Is anyone going to take them up on it? I'm considering it, heavily.
The only extras they offer for getting Founder status are:
Half off your first month fee
A "certified cloth map", whatever THAT is...
"Founder" status for all your characters

Eh.

MouseTyme 10-16-2007 01:43 AM

I got the email also. I will not be taking advantage of it.

FauxPaw 10-16-2007 02:24 PM

I got the email too. Im wondering if they will be offering an annual rate like they do for Toontown. I would much rather pay $80 annually than $10 per month.

Dennis 10-16-2007 02:38 PM

I don't think it's ready for release yet.

Ducky Wucky 10-16-2007 05:04 PM

I'm going to email them first to find out if I get a free unlimited account for beta testing. Most likely not. But I'm a cheapskate, so I might as well ask, what could it hurt?

Bizneo 10-16-2007 08:43 PM

I will, I'm also a founder for TT. Cant beat the 5.00 a month I'm still paying for TT.

Black Beard the Pillaging 10-16-2007 09:01 PM

well i hope we get to keep beta accounts for free i dont mind the bugs

Ninja Pirate 10-16-2007 09:31 PM

I'm considering it but i do have some serious concerns about the duration of this game.

Tonguetyed 10-16-2007 10:03 PM

It also won't be 50% off EVERY month, just for the first month's subscription. So basically, if you wait 'til the game comes out to buy a subscription, you'll be paying $5 more in the long run. Very negligible in my opinion. Having "Founder" next to your name also isn't very enticing when other "pre-order-ers" will have it next to their names as well.

Vandelay 10-17-2007 12:03 AM

I'm sure that I'll sign up, and I'll pay for it for a while.

But "Lord of the Rings Online" had a better "Founder's" offer -- all beta testers could pay a $149 one-time fee to get a "lifetime" account (i.e. no monthly fees, ever).

then i'm opposite of ye mate. I'll be being one o' the first ones on there(after :beta: of course)

livewire82 10-17-2007 05:36 AM

i've already preordered, really doubt the rumor of free unlimited access to beta testers is gonna hold up.

dichuy 10-18-2007 05:37 PM

I remember the "free to beta testers" coming up in the past and I don't recall DIsney said yes to that. The beta testers kept asking for it or saying we should have it free, but Disney's reply was "no".

dichuy 10-18-2007 05:39 PM

Also, it was Disney saying something like "Hey, you got to test the game for months free, that should be enough".

Bluesaucer 10-18-2007 05:57 PM

I got the e-mail also.. I won't be taking advantage of it or keeping it in mind.

Gizmo103151 10-20-2007 05:14 PM

I did take advantage of it as I do like this game but I am also checking around for other new releases of games coming up. I can always cancel.

Besides when I need to veg, I play Toontown or POTC lol

IceSphere 10-20-2007 09:16 PM

Same here... I was only going to get the silk screen map- I can't see paying over $100 per year for a game you don't even get to keep...

On top of that, I really don't think they can get it to work on any server that is too full.

Well think of it this way, once the game goes on for a while, after beta, it will be less and less likely you'll find a Founder. Think of other big online games, how often will you see a person from beta when there's thousands of players online.

Pirate Rose 10-23-2007 09:12 PM

I preordered today :) woot! lol

Ms_Moofers 10-23-2007 10:27 PM

I pre-ordered - not for any founder title but because I had unlimited access and it was switched to basic for two days - the free version isn't worth my time and I do like playing the game so I wanted to be sure to sign up for it (didn't want to get busy and forget)

jmej06 10-24-2007 05:11 AM

preorder

I pre-ordered the game when I got the email, I love playing but even I recognize that there is still alot to do. I am willing to give it a shot and see what they do with it though. I don't think the founders symbol is going to everyone that pre-orders, I think that it is beta players that pre-order, maybe I am wrong but that's what it usually means.

Wendot 10-24-2007 10:29 AM

I just signed up last night, I still gotta check that my pirate has the right coin over her head.

HaveAMagicalDay 10-25-2007 12:14 AM

I'm wondering something. If we pre-order, do we keep these accounts, or will we have to start over again? Be nice if we could keep our accounts, and not have to start all over, again lol.

~Cpt.Sea

Wildbiter 10-25-2007 02:32 PM

I pre-ordered too. That is a good question, I do not know if we get to keep the pirates we have or have to start all over again. Please tell me we don't have to start all over again! Finally got to level 20 and am working on the grenade quest. I like that you pay monthly so you can cancel anytime you get bored with it.

HaveAMagicalDay 10-26-2007 01:23 AM

Yes, that is a nice thing to pay monthly if you get bored of it, if it was yearly, I might only do it one year, because of being bored lol.

$199 one-time fee for a Lifetime Account actually, and you hafta purchase the new expansions when they come out. But no monthly fees. and... /evilgrinz, I'm lovin' that deal. And the Free brand new content that comes out so very often is great. (edit: it wasn't just for beta-testers, we were just told about the pre-order deal first.)

I dunno quite what the difference from PotC's unlimited access to non is. But yeah, I'm not intrigued to pre-buy yet. I'm pleased though to get to beta test yet another game. (One that involves my favorite pirate at that too.) I will prolly go with POTC for free and bounce around in Lotro at the same time. If the newer content gets interesting, or they put in a yearly fee like TT had, then maybe. (although I did drop my TT sub after a year of it.)

Peggo 10-29-2007 01:41 PM

The lifetime account sounds great if there only was one.
I have a question. Will our pirates be reset once th game goes public? Because there are two Beta players in my home, and if they will be reset there is no reason to get two separate accounts. But if they won't be reset...ah there's a problem.
Those who signed up...is there any answer to this question?

targ 10-29-2007 06:34 PM

aint going to waste my money on the garbage this game is now

Awesome_The Pirate 10-29-2007 07:34 PM

I will be becoming a founder, i wonder what a certified cloth map is?

Dolnor 10-30-2007 11:57 AM

I subscribed to ToonTown for a year after release...mostly due to the low $5/month fee. But there isn't enough content in POTCO yet to justify a $10/month investment. There are other bigger games that are going to cost $15/month that look much more promising...even tho' they cost more.

Griffy, you sure do get around. Does Gramps know you are hiding out here. Better not let Keth or Columbus know you have your own ship...they may just might take away your new house. Or is it 'houses'??!!

Aye, the $200 Lifetime LOTRO subscription only covered online charges. When the expansions are released, Lifers still have to buy them. But you have to give Turbine credit, they have released TONS of content since release for free.

I hope POTCO follows ToonTown Online's model and introduces a lot of content after release. TTO didn't have COG Headquarters, Factories, the Race Track, etc. at release. Those were added later. All we had were Trolley Games, Neighborhoods, and Quests. The Score Board appeared after release too.

Fingers crossed that POTCO is a well-received success. I hope Disney Corp. is happy with the results of their investment.

They said that the beta pirates will be in the test server. My understanding is that we can continue to play our pirates in test for as long as we want. We will need to make new characters for the open server.

Peggo 10-30-2007 08:11 PM

Thanks. It does seem like that is the case.
So all we won't have is all 8 (?) weapons, and all those extra players on the pay game?
I can live with that.:h-face:

mgman640 10-31-2007 02:28 PM

I believe that my family is pre-ordering this game as well. We all enjoy playing this a lot, and I do agree with the hope that this is like TT whit a lot of new content to play with after release.

Peggo 10-31-2007 10:19 PM

Those scallywags! I tried to sign up as a founder last night, but they don't take Discover. And it's the only card I've got. So Frustrating!
And forget about playing with the limited account. You can't dso much of anything in the game.
I"m sticking with the test server for as long as it's up.
Who's with me?

HoistTheColors 11-01-2007 05:37 AM

I'm probably going to do the same thing Peggo. I don't have a credit card to pay and the limited is waaaaay too limited for me so unless I get my hands on a card in the future I'll be spending most of my time on the test server.

Peggo 11-01-2007 04:53 PM

I hope more people will play on the test server. It's getting lonely in there.
I'm looking into a debit/check card to possibly sign up for the full game. If the test server didn't crash constanly I'd be perfectly happy to remain there.
I'm Meg Darkcastle in the game by the way.

Looks like there's not anything new. They really should have added more, like trading, and not automatically selling the items you get, so you can decide if you want to sell them, or trade them. Also, changing clothing would have been nice.

OH, I'd love to be able to change clothes and my hair. I'm just not happy with it. You know us girls. LOL

reillysix 11-04-2007 11:48 AM

I became a founder. So did my brother even though he didn't test the game. I linked his account to mine so he's happy.

Captain 11-04-2007 05:54 PM

I love being a Founder! Little Gold "F" Coins FTW!
