Missing Leader

As a long standing member of Clan Storm and TBC, I have the sad duty to announce the information I have recently discovered. After repeated attempts to contact Roxy thru E-mail and such I dug allittle deeper to see if I could find her home E-mail. Upon further examination I discovered that shes been playing the POTCO online games rather frequently and as soon as today. It saddens me that she has chosen not to respond to any of our communications regarding our Clan or the TBC. I now no longer beleive that it is a case of too little time, like she announced in her last post, but rather she no longer wishes to be a part of Clan Storm or the TBC. It's a shame, alot of people have put alot of energy into her creation and made it apart of themselves. I now have the unfortunate task of trying to find a new guild and to say goodbye to some freinds in my own, now defunct guild.

Captain Del 02-16-2010 02:53 AM

My my... I am greatly disheartened to hear this. My guild joined the Brethren Court not to long ago, and the concept and organization behind it was beyond unbelivable. Tis a shame, seeing as how so many put so much energy in to TBC, and your guild. I hope that you will be able to find a good guild, mate, and I'm hoping that you, the rest of your guild and the Court will be able to grab hold of the reigns as soon as possible. Good luck shaky!

Sven Osymthe 02-16-2010 03:06 AM

Best of luck on finding a new guild.

Ofury/ Tom 03-07-2010 09:19 PM

Is the Court going to elect a new leader or will it fade into the shadows of pirates history...

The Skirata Clan 03-07-2010 09:19 PM

Odds are that a new POTCO leader will be elected.

Ofury/ Tom 03-07-2010 09:22 PM

Well then we should take a vote! i might actually have my guild become active again i got tired of showing up when nobody else was there.

Bartholomew Foulsteel 03-07-2010 11:08 PM

It's been a number of months since any post here. Allow me to ask:

Is there truly any reason for TBC to continue? I've questioned its purpose before and I'll do it again now.

There are plenty of good active guilds still playing, mates. Take a look at those.

Best wishes to all.

The Skirata Clan 03-08-2010 12:07 AM

I have questioned that same thing too my friend. The idea behind it is still strong.

Bartholomew Foulsteel 03-08-2010 01:36 AM

I hear ye. But a strong idea, in order to make it to fruition (and thereafter remain strong) requires both a strong leader AND a dedicated one. Dedication without strength won't do the task, nor will strength without dedication.

My personal belief is that the concept as well as the organizationw as far too involved for this game. It required far too much from people in order to make it work--nearly as much work as it would require to actually lead a business. When you consider that actually running a business is a full-time effort, I can understand why somebody would not be able to keep up with all that is required in a game.

I personally was not interested in the whole TBC simply because of that--it looked like Management and Business Org 101. There was a lot of "stuff" going on to establish a "company" but no product. At least no product worth the effort required that I could see.

The Skirata Clan 03-08-2010 07:06 AM

You are absolutely right. Thanks for your honesty. I truly appreciate it.

I agree 150%!

I believe that in order for the Court to continue, it needs to be simplified. There was no real need for all of that set up - meetings, HUGE rule threads - BLAH!

The purpose, for the TBC was, to establish a way in which guilds from all over the Caribbean would be able to come together and, basically, have fun! We don't need to hold meetings discussing what guilds need to be added, or what rules need to be enforced. We just need to set up a more simple, more managed way to run things. I have a few ideas, I hope you don't mind me just throwing them out there:
  • Make the Court events open to everybody. After all, we're all pirates, and all pirates are entitled to a good time! Just let anybody who wants to come come, don't restrict it to guilds that are well-known, and/or here on POF. If somebody decides to "ruin" the fun, well, thats bad judgement on their part. After all, they're doing it in front of the entire Caribbean - what kind of savvy pirate would do that? Just let guilds come and go, and let everybody enjoy themselves :)
  • Theres no need for huge, organized meetings. The only thing that needs to be discussed is events, and when they are to take place. A single suggestion thread would work just fine!
  • Don't make the leader (Skirata, as well as the new leader) have to dedicate their whole pirate being to the Court. Its a game, we should treat it as one. Lets just take it nice and slow. That way even the organizers can have a little fun 8)

Also, keep in mind, a huge, organized subforum isn't necessary. No, I'm not saying get rid of it, as it is a great addition to the Court. But you could just have it as a discussion board. There could be a few stickied topics, and then the rest could be for, well, anything! Discussing Court events, screenshots, etc. etc, all that sort.

Ofury/ Tom 03-13-2010 01:06 AM

what is behind TBC is there a reason? I have not seen any events all i see are pirates who don't show up to meetings i've only been a member for a little while but i'm not impressed i'll admit it allowed me to get to know different ppl but thats about it

shaky9078 03-13-2010 02:04 AM

The TBC by design was to be a group of Pirates (not just individual pirates but whole guilds) to come together to have fun and do some activities outside of POTCO ingame stories. We had various games, races, and etc to bring all Pirates togerther for a common cause. Also it was designed to be able to meet people from all over and to be called upon if needed during POTCO stories. ie: look at the sticky right above these posts. It was actually fun when we had a leader, but quickly became out of control by bad people and the shear size of all the participants. Also there were too many rules but it was a double edged sword since we needed the rules to try to control the events, BUT, we had no teeth to enforce those rules for the bad pirates. Tis a shame, but, that being said, I would like it to continue somehow.

Maybe another meeting should be held? That way, any interested participants can show up, and we all can discuss our ideas.

Isn't that kind of the point? TBC was fat with meetings. Meetings meetings meetings.

If you want it to work, you're probably going to have to do something other than have meetings.

Well, we need to have some way to take a step foward in our reconstruction. Not everybody has a POF account, after all, and those that are on POF don't seem to be getting extremely involved in this conversation (as a majority, of course.) We need to be able to discuss something openly, and freely, where everybody involved in the Court can express their opinion.

And its not necessarily about how it happens, or how you make it happen, it matters if it happens. Our goal is obvious - reconstruct the Court. Now, whether we need to do this through meetings, through POF, or through a site that can be created just for the Court, is debatable. But we need to take some sort of action, no matter what form.

After all, lets face it - Rome wasn't built in a day. This is going to take a while - yet still, we just need to take it a step at a time - brainstorm for canidates for leader, vote on who it will be, change the rules, how the Court runs, and so forth. Once that is accomplished, then we can do what the Court was made for - fun!

Eliza Creststeel 03-13-2010 02:48 AM

Soooo, you've talked to Roxy about this?

Seeing as how there have been no further communications from her, we can assume, until we here any feedback, shes gone AWOL.

If she happens to come back, and she remains active, welcome back, fold up the plans, back to business. But seeing as that isn't the case, we need to take action.

And as of right now, seeing as TSC runs the Subforum here on POF, and was working close with Roxy concerning the Court, we can look to him right now as our guide, as to what we should and shouldn't do.

The Skirata Clan 03-13-2010 04:48 AM

From the start I was in disagreement with the number of meetings. I fully agree, and like the idea of replacing the meetings with activities.

I wanted to have which ever arguments or concerns to be addressed through POF or even by emails or other sources.

shaky9078 03-14-2010 01:06 AM

One of the reasons for the weekly meetings was to discuss with the guild captains any news regarding the storyline or events POTCO threw our way. This made sure that everyone that did not check the boards regularly was kept informed. That way they could inform their guilds of the new information. That is why it seemed that we had too many meetings (as far as Clan Storm was concerned). I am not opposed to having a weekly meeting to continue this process but I do think we would need to get back to the after meeting activities that was designed by Roxy. They do have the rules already established for each event and I think those rules were effective to help control the mayhem. I dont think we need to re-invent the wheel in this category. As for a new leader, I have concerns regarding this. This WAS Roxys idea, but that being said, she is no longer with us. In any Democratic society the leadership team goes to the next in line of succesion. There is a clear line of leadership already established. It is up to them to elect a new leader with a final vote from all the TBC guild captains. I am concerned as well of any items that only Roxy had control of. Would we need to change the name, forums, etc? As far as Roxy coming back at any time, she chose to abandon this project. In my opinion she would need to be held to the same standards that she held everyone else to. To come back as leader, she would need a vote of confidence from all the TBC guild captains.

katzlover 03-14-2010 03:20 AM

Aye I agree Shaky having meetings every week is good but maybe not as long I suggest meetings are just there to explain what happened on POF to people who don't have accounts on here or don't check here as much, and I agree that there needs to be someone else in charge since roxy is clearly AWOL I suggest Skirata should be in charge of TBC in game.

Ofury/ Tom 03-14-2010 05:53 AM

Is there any members other than skirata that has been to most meetings? I'm not sure putting all the work on Skirata is a good idea.

The Skirata Clan 03-14-2010 09:47 AM

Yeah, me neither.

Ofury/ Tom 03-14-2010 04:08 PM

So then we must chose a new leader

katzlover 03-14-2010 05:06 PM

Any other ideas then??

The Skirata Clan 03-14-2010 09:55 PM

I don't log on POTCO as often as I would like, I spend more time here. That is why I was in charge of the POF part. That's why a POTCO leader was needed. I alone can't and won't carry TBC on my back. That is also why I was thinking of closing TBC. I am glad that some of you are showing interest again.

Bartholomew Foulsteel 03-15-2010 01:18 AM

I'll take over then. Now all we need to do is reorganize. We'll start by having all TBC members leave their guilds and join BBK. Then, meetings will be a thing of the past and events will be scheduled and posted on the Krewe calendar for all to see. You will also get mailed/PMed reminders of when events are and on what server. Your leader will normnally be at events, and when he isn't then another Officer will be in charge and will ensure the whole thing goes smoothly.

When the Krewe site is updated you will also receive notifications.

When issues come up, you will be notified of what they are (in general non-specific terms) and alternatives will be given.

Promotions will come based upon amount of activity and leadership qualities demonstrated.

Access to subforums here on POF is under my direct control and allow officers a private place to discuss matters of a more serious nature than in the general forums.

That would sure simplify things and accomplish the same goals, wouldn't it?

The Skirata Clan 03-15-2010 01:58 AM

I liked that shameless plug. You put a smile on my face.

Bartholomew Foulsteel 03-15-2010 01:06 PM

Hehe... it was not an actual attempt to make everybody in TBC join the Krewe, I was merely making a point. That point being that what people seem to WANT TBC to be is a giant guild.

If that's what ye want, then make a giant guild.

The Skirata Clan 03-15-2010 06:21 PM

I know it wasn't. You have morals. I understood the point, that's why it made me smile.

Li Wildtimbers 03-15-2010 08:20 PM

gotta luv the way Bossman puts stuff to words....makes me smile when he does it as well TSC...lolz
