Call of the Kraken not compatible with Vista?

So, I received an email with the code for the new call of the Kraken game. When I went to install it, I got an error, and it came back reading that the game is not compatible with Vista.

Any help?

Zeke, that seems to be the case. The system requirements listed for the game seem to be Windows Me, 2000, or XP. Is it an error on the page to download it or the installer itself?

If you were able to download it, can you run it "as XP" in a Compatibility Mode? (Right-click the file, Properties, Compatibility tab)

The Skirata Clan 01-08-2010 10:31 PM

Wait! Only those 3 are listed as the required systems? No Mac?

Questnight 01-08-2010 10:36 PM

I have the same problem. I'm running windows vista and recieved the same message.

djr_8fan 01-08-2010 10:38 PM

Aye me too, posted about it in the Jan 7 tread about this download.

Aaron McEagle 01-08-2010 11:48 PM

I thought about it but I think if some users are having problems with this game, they'd mostly likely look in the Tech Support forum rather than in the News forum.

Well that stinks. Disney should at least let Vista users download the game and attempt to install it at their own risk.

Aaron McEagle 01-09-2010 12:14 AM

I dont know alot about computers but...

Do you think Disney can updates this game?

Nelly Darkpaine 01-09-2010 01:53 AM

This is the stupidest thing ever. Its not compatible with the TWO NEWEST Windows Operating Systems??????

My hopes are low. Their online customer support email form doesnt even work. I tried to send this:

Brilliant. You give away a 'free program' that offers rewards in the paid MMORPG game, that MANY if NOT the majority of players CAN NOT PLAY because its not compatable with the TWO NEWEST WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEMS??????

Great work again Disney. Why not let Vista players download, as they can then run the program in 'XP Compatibility Mode'??? We cant even download it to do that!

The Skirata Clan 01-09-2010 02:22 AM

You also need Internet Explorer. Not very Mac friendly either...

Amen to that. Once again us mac users are shot in the back by D. Thank god the regular game works for mac.

I have Vista & can't download either. But I am not great with computers either, so I wouldn't want to take any risk that might mess my computer up or I'll be calling & paying for the Geek Squad!

Ok, today I sent an email to POTCO member services. This is what I said:

This is the response I got:

Hello Kim,

Thank you for your message.

Unfortunately, Call of the Kraken is only available for Internet Explorer. Below are
the system requirements:

Windows Me/2000/XP
1GHz processor,
256 MB RAM
400MB hard-drive space
32 MB Graphics Card with 3D Graphics Acceleration
Direct X 9 or better.

We apologize for any frustration.

We hope to see you in the Caribbean again soon!

Good work Miss Goldwalker. At least they answered fast. Maybe they had this ready since the game came out as a mini-game for The DXD thing.

djr_8fan 01-09-2010 06:50 AM

No idea. Gonna try to send an email to member services where you download it too. Wasnt working earlier today.
I still think they are trying to keep from giving us anything while giving us something, lol. Think about it. Free game download for unlimited members and if you beat the game you get a Kraken tattoo all of your pirates.
-POTCO thinks: Wow that is a lot of unlmited people, good thing most of them arent palying on a compatable system. Keeps the Vista, Windows 7, Mac users along with anyone who doesnt have Internet Explore from getting them.

warriorpoets 01-09-2010 08:30 AM

This is just awful planning by Disney and you know what else is going to happen? It's going to create a level of stratification in the game: the people who did get the game and got the bonus and those who didn't.

It's different than it was with the bandanas because that was just timing or having a clothing slot. I just sense this could create some problems.

nitnek 01-09-2010 11:18 AM

At the beginning, I was very happy about this new mini game, but now... Wait ? Are limited access member will going to pay to be unlimited even if they have Vista or Seven ?!
And NOTHING is writen in the webiste's article about the configuration of the game !!!

BAD DISNEY ! It is bother me !

Something tells me that Stacy from Pirates of the Caribbean Online Member Services didn't really read your letter... Windows ME? Sheesh...

swashbuckler II 01-09-2010 08:07 PM

I hate that its not compatible with Vista and Mac.
They should of at LEAST said in the news update when it was first announced. (like Those that are on a Mac, and became unlimited just for this.)

Actually, Windows ME is a Microsoft OS. Shortened for Windows Millennium.

And, for anyone on a Mac, if they do update the OS requirements, you can download IE for this, provided you don't mind.

Chris 01-10-2010 02:27 AM

Lol was this game created like 10 years ago only to be released now? Is this some kind of joke I havent seen anyone or any computer run windows ME or 2000 in probably 5+ years. XP is still used mainly in school which is the only place I see it.

lostmymarbles 01-10-2010 04:29 AM

Friend of mine downloaded the game. This is what he told me about the game

1. The dates on the game download files are dated for 2 yrs ago.

2. They want $20 for a stand alone game.

3. It was very easy to glitch to give "rank 5" to everything and to complete each level quickly. (He said he had time still left over in his "free preview" time)

Can anyone else confirm this?

Really? Wow...Thanks. I thought I remembered something like that from when I was selling computers with Windows ME on them and from the two PCs I had that used Windows Millennium Edition.... Actually. :psmiley35:

Aaron McEagle 01-11-2010 12:23 AM

Wait this mini game costs money???

Its like going to a neighbor's house and shoveling her snow because she said she had a surprise for you. When you're done, she hands an old can of peaches that is 3 years past it's freshness date.

Gee. Thanks. :psmiley35:

djr_8fan 01-11-2010 02:04 AM

This mini game is availible in the DXD game pages. They have downloadable games there. I noticed it last year but wasnt gonna pay for one, after all I was paying for Pirates. So, I'd be willing to bet that if this game was 2 years old, then there is no reason for anyone running an up to date OS to even try to download mini games from disney. I really dont see them updating them or even helping any of us out with this issue. They weasled their way out of this one.

Bubba Bunny x 01-14-2010 03:06 AM

basically, it wants you to use an old computer style hahaha. Doesnt work for windows 7 either, luckily tho I have windows xp O_O

If you don't receive a promotional code from Disney. The game has been out for quite some time - thus it's incompatibility with newer versions of Windows - and if you want to play it without a promotional code (and I'm guessing without the code at the end of the game for your tattoo), it's $20 on their website. Should you be unlimited access and have received an e-mail from Disney regarding getting a code for the game, it's free.

darthvader45 10-18-2010 11:45 AM

Yeah, I have the same problem, but an awesome solution for those that have vista, 7 or a mac. Just download windows virtual pc 2007 for those that have vista or 7, and the virtual hard disc(on the microsoft site, duh!) for the xp os. Then download and install the game there, zip the folder it was installed in, mail it to yourself somehow(I had a yahoo account and io program, because it was too big for gmail) then download it from your email on your big comp, move it anywhere(I left it in the downloads folder), run it in xp compatibility mode, and admin mode and whammo, you have it. Unfortunately, you only get 2 days of an hour each day, and then you have to pay 20 dollars to unlock it. CURSE YOU DISNEY!!!!! I already pay $10 a month for unlimited access for potco, and now this? ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGH!!!!!! I'LL BE BACK.

Hopefully soon it will be available for vista. At the time, I can understand them not coming out with it for Windows 7, as it was new then, but Vista had been out for a while, so there is no excuse for it not being compatable with vista. I run on a vista, and I was heartbroken when I couldn't play it.
