Our Characters' Speech!

Do you think that when we play POTCO, that we can freely type whatever we want? Are there limits? Are there phrases to be selected, like in TT?
What do you think?
Post your thoughts :)

Centurey 03-14-2007 07:43 PM

To prevent abuse (sp?) I think there may be limitations on what we can say.

That's most likely the case.

warner 03-14-2007 07:47 PM

I am not sure, but you will probably be able to say words in POTCO that you couldn't say in VMK.... ;)

Yeah, POTCO will probably be the most liberated game, surpassing VMK's and TT's dictionary.

toon:josh 03-14-2007 07:57 PM

I'm guessing it will be like the SF option on toontown. Where you can say anything but bad words are not shown.

Ngendi 03-14-2007 07:59 PM

I hope it's not like toontown. It would be better if it were like VMK.

Agreed. But with less limitations, of course.

Yeah I hate VMK for that very reason matey. Limitation beyond yer very ears matey.

Agreed. The limitatons drive me crazy, mate.

Bo.Shwah 03-14-2007 08:30 PM

It's probably going to be like runescape where you can say anything you want, but bad words come out as "*******" when you send them or enter them.

Oh and by the way, i put those stars.

Centurey 03-14-2007 08:30 PM

All we shouldn't have on Potco is:
Swears
Addresses
Those types of things.

PinkTinkPixie 03-14-2007 08:40 PM

I'm guessing it's gonna be pretty much like VMK's standards, but we'll be able to say more, considering you need to be 13 to play the game.

~Pink

gigarichard 03-14-2007 08:42 PM

I can see it being a lot like Toontown. The pictures I have seen don't really show a dialog box.

PinkTinkPixie 03-14-2007 08:45 PM

Ugh, I hope it's not like ToonTown :( I like being able to say whatever, even if it is like VMK where there are some words you cannot say.

~Pink

warner 03-14-2007 08:47 PM

I really don't mind the limitations that much on VMK, except that people really could give out info in numbers, it would just be harder.

Indianajo75 03-14-2007 08:55 PM

I hate the TT phrases. Makes me wanna destroy the server.

I hope swearing is allowed :)

I agree with icecoolio :)

And I personally don't see why you would *want* to sware...

In my eyes the "youngins" already have ToonTown AND VMK. This is more grown-up, heck even the fansite is PG rated.

Besides the youngsters find a way to swear at you anyway. I'm just happy they took beach out of the VMK Dictionary. I was getting fed up with that...

Rocks, you have a point there....
Restrictions actually make people want to do it more.

PinkTinkPixie 03-14-2007 11:08 PM

And you can't forget about "mer"! Ugh...

~Pink

Devin 03-14-2007 11:10 PM

As on ToonTown, you need parental permission to freely chat. ;) Otherwise there pre-delevoped chat phrases to use. That's what I heard.

"Mer"? I don't quite follow?

Yes, I was just freely called an "as" earlier today as well. Great to see that kids are alive and well and learning respect :)

One thing I like about the speedchat is that limits what you have to put up with from others, but at the same time, maybe they could reverse the procedure? Make it free chat with the option to put the person on SpeedChat only? I can think of people I would like to do that to ;)

Garfieldo 03-14-2007 11:59 PM

I'm sure I read somewhere on the site that it uses Speedchat, but I can't find that page anymore...

Well, when you find it, post it! :D

My Nosey Koala 03-15-2007 12:09 AM

I hope you'll be allowed to say whatever you want freely. That's what makes most games fun. Saying whatever you want as long as there aren't curses.

Neon Lights 03-15-2007 12:14 AM

I think it'll be like VMK speech.

I hope it doesn't have as many limitations as VMK has.

I just hope that communication for teamwork is easy, unlike Toontown. >.>;

You can say that again.

When I used to play TT, I couldn't speak that well with my team.
That hurt our chances of winning in the Bot Factories.

That would be my first guess, TT like speedchat/SF program. I'm leaning towards the SF program because this game has a point like TT unlike VMK, where you can just experience Magic Kingdom park and trade/become rich. Because POTCO is a game where you are able to fight and have careers (taking a guess here, I was thinking something like a ToonTask from TT) it makes me think that we would be able to chat freely and not be limited to a dictonary as VMK, but our chat would be moderated loosely.

My 2 cents!

Agreed.
Although, what kind of speedchat do you think we would have?

A pirate-talk based speedchat such as Ahoy!, Shiver me timbers!, and cute catch phrases like that.

Matey don't even go there.
I hate that game fer that very reas'n.

Cownip 03-17-2007 04:33 PM

I assume that their will be no dictionary or speed chat, but open speak, with a few words blurred out. Thats how most pg/teen+ mmog work anyway, and this one is probably no exception.

theastroA 03-17-2007 09:32 PM

If the dictionary is a limiting as VMK, I'll quit the game before it starts :P

Locke 03-17-2007 10:37 PM

I believe Pirates Online will have limitations on words that are very offensive or very personal. Inappropriate content said in the game will most defenitely reflect Disney negatively. They won't let that happen, of course. :)

I wouldn't mind any word filter. The important thing to remember is, Disney is trying to keep every player safe.

-Doc

Warioguy 03-19-2007 04:39 PM

I wouldn't mind something like what Toontown does. It worked well for me.

I appreciate word filters, just as long as they don't go too far. If it gets to the point where you can't say "Arr", that's where I draw the line. XD

BadgerHockey 03-19-2007 05:05 PM

I hope its like vmk, but we can say a ton more things.

Like we would be able to say everything but:
-Swear Words
-Phone Numbers
-Adresses
-Other things to keep people who play safe.

I mean on VMK you can't even say PENGUIN! O.O
`Hockey

Captain 03-19-2007 11:45 PM

It's the same format as TT, I read it on Google News a couple weeks ago. I think it was somebody's blog that had copied and pasted what the IGN guys did.

Yeah I've read a few sites about that.

Yes I think it will be where you can pick from a certain list for quick typting. Or you can just type what you want (well some things lol)

If it hasn't been confirmed .. the answer to what the chat will be like is above.

Yeah I think it is like that since there are a few lines that will be said over and over so speed text is good. I hope it is confirmed but it's not officially. Nothing is official until beta is done lol.

Bellatrix 03-29-2007 06:20 AM

I think we will be free to type what we
want. There should not be a dictionary,
with words we can use. There should be
a dictionary with words we can't use.
That way we could be able to talk freely
amongst ourselves.

Magnet 03-30-2007 04:12 PM

When I played ToonTown the speed chat was not bad. It was a way to distinguish the adults from the children. Clever people will always find away to communicate.

HaveAMagicalDay 03-31-2007 05:31 PM

true most of the time lol
