SWTOR or STO?

Now, look.
I really, really don't care if you like Star Trek better than Star Wars.
Or if you like Star Wars better than Star Trek.
I don't care about their established fanbases, yadda yadda.

I just want to know, that, just based on looking at the games, which upcoming MMO, if you could only choose one of the two, would you play?

Star Wars: The Old Republic
or
Star Trek Online

SWTOR is being developed by Bioware, responsible for the fantastic Knights of the Old Republic games.
STO is being developed by Cryptic Studios, responsible for the highly reputable MMO City of Heroes.

Based on the game content alone and what it looks like you'll be able to do in the game and what the game itself looks like, which one would you choose?

EDIT: release for STO is almost positively March 2010, and release for SWTOR has been posted on Amazon as November and then taken down, so nobody really knows its release date.

Regardless of how they look, I think that what you prefer will influence which you play. Specially if you know the content context.

I agree with TSC, but I love both star wars and star trek, granted star wars alot more but the new movie has got me hyped for it. I am really anticipating SWTOR but I have a feeling star trek online is going to come out first and im willing to give it a try. But those are not the only games I have been tracking, one other one is Stargate worlds, it looks like an awesome game but they are being slow with it. (Beta ended back in december and they said they would start again shortly, but still no beta)

I've been following STO for over a year, and it looks to be an exciting game - once its done (when that is... is any guess) :)

I've also been a big fan of SW for years - played X-Wing in the ol' days and even made my own missions using a mission builder (and even made an entire package of missions). Like many shooter games though - I found as time went on and the "need for accuracy" became so refined that my "older nerves" could not keep up - which is why I drifted away from shaip and FPS games (I loved Duke 3D - you didn't need to be a sniper rifel guy for every shot to get someone - but todays FPS's you have to be).

Will I try these new games - its possible... depending on their final releases, money, time, stuff :D

The star wars game looks pretty cool. I would pick that one then, star wars.

I had supposed that that much was obvious, and that posters would keep that to themselves. The main objective of my writing that was so that this wouldn't turn into a ridiculous Star Wars vs. Star Trek thread like they have over on the STO forums.

Chris 08-10-2009 09:36 PM

does anyone know any KOTOR or KOTOR 2 pc game mods like to make handmaden in number 2 look like a pretty young women than an old short white haired grandma. I want to do the romance with her!

EdwardTeach 08-11-2009 07:45 PM

something tells me when TOR comes out Pirates will loose lots and lots of fans. SAD. Though it will probably be better.

Shnoodell 08-12-2009 12:37 AM

Actually, Disney has at least 2 years to pick up there act, i personally think the game will be much better by then but still, they will lose alot of members lol cuz SWTOR is gonna be SO epic

What the hell?

Actually closer to one year. The recent videos have show that they are alot further than what we expected my bet is still June 2010.

The other thing people need to watch out for. POTCO is a 1.13 gb game they are expecting SWTOR to be 20-30 gb game. Yes, 20 to 30 gb game. This is not official these number came from major talk in a certain thread on the official forum. The reason it is so high is that the game has full VO, its going to have many many worlds, along with thousands of items and graphical things to load. So the minimum settings may be a bit high.

EdwardTeach 10-05-2010 05:15 PM

They keep pushing it back. I probably wont do it though, I play POTCO and WOW.
