So I was sitting here wondering what those green bottles were on everyone's posts. So I hover over it and to my surprise get to read the following hilarity:

I'm thinking, huh, I don't have a lot of posts, but I figure this must be a reputation thing.

So I look and I have 845 reputation points. Now how in the ever loving earth do I have that much reputation?

I don't understand. That must be a mistake or I am reading this wrong.

Well I cannot tell if there are any mistakes, glitchs, etc giving you more than you should have, but if you go to Control Panel, it should show the last 10 or so instances/posts that have given you rep, and perhaps a comment regarding it.

Hmm, it says I have received some recently, and that I have 845 total. I must have done something. Maybe its the screen capture software.

I just was laughing about the message. Tia and I are in cahoots!

Though I must add that I wonder if there is a glitch. My bottles went from 1 to 3 after one comment. No complaining, just curious.

I only got one bottle BUT i have earned up to 15 at a time!! its just that they were mistakenly still filled with rum so i horded them.

I saw someone the other day who only has 22 posts, but has 5 bottles of rep. I just figured they got a bunch of friends to give it to them. Didn't know there was a way to cheat to get rep.

You can view your rep and see who gave to you along with any comments and for what post by clicking your usercp.

Don't look at me, I seldom get there in time, its usually the other mods snagging all the rum! :)

Ahh, yes... that was due to frustration level, and then when I received what appeared to be some ridicule on the matter when I inquired... well... yeah, that would do it.. lol
The funny thing I got out of that though was that I got what appeared to be ridicule when noone else knew what was being looked for either! (nobody, got that question right)

On POFs sister site TTC I remember reading something that said you can be banned for bribing people with rep and making another account to give yourself rep. I also think there was a post that said if you posted to say you were giving someone rep, it was against the rules.

That's just what I read and I really don't know if that's the rules.

But hey, there are a lot of helpful posts out there that deserve the rep. It does seem strange to me that people with so little posts can have that much rep. I guess I'm being a stereotype when I say I think the more posts(helpul) you have the more rep you'll probably have.

It could be worse, though. People could abuse rep and it could be taken off like it was on TTC for a while. No sense in giving someone rep for something like, "Here's a bottle of rum mate."

POF does not condone asking or begging for rep. Its a nice feature to have, but if too much creedence is applied to it, people tend to get out of hand with it, applying it where it may not be due, and well.. That tends to result in losing the feature much like TTC has (they only get the feature turned on during holidays I believe).

No ridicule intended, Zep. Anything I tease people about is never meant seriously, ever. If I seemed short with you that night, I was fighting off a migraine and to be honest was a little overwhelmed with the chat at times. And ... was having a hard time trying to figure out how to explain what I was looking for without giving the answer away.

Zilly how do you see who gave it to you I can see what I got it for but not who did it, if that is on purpose I like it it keeps ppl a little more honest.

It reflects it that way by design.
What you can do is look at the post that recieved the rep, and sometimes between responses, and comments on the rep you can figure it out.

You can click the little shield icon with a ! on it in the upper right corner of each post.

I actually didn't realize you all couldn't see who gave it to you. It's not something I use all that often.
