New bodies? Interesting... Hey can Doc Grog do plastic surgery?

Sven Niscadae 07-22-2009 04:04 PM

Good that they actually listened to the bug reports about the grogginess. What does "New avatar body types are being displayed" mean? There are actually NEW body types available to choose from now? Screenshots please! Hate being at work when new test updates are out. :(

MacIronhawk 07-22-2009 04:15 PM

Maybe it has something to do with customizing our pirates. On toontown the customization is very simple for characters. Fat, skinny, tall, etc... Maybe they're implementing some new shapes for our pirates so there's more of a variety.

I'll go on to see if anything looks "new" but I think the body types will only appear if when making a new pirate. I have no idea what body types are but they sound interesting.

Sven Osymthe 07-22-2009 04:24 PM

Here are some screen shots I took, thats also the new clothes they start you with in the create a character area.

Sven Niscadae 07-22-2009 04:29 PM

Looks more like they refined the current body types. They actually look like real people now! I like!

Sven Osymthe 07-22-2009 04:32 PM

Have to remember, new to them is remaking the old.

MacIronhawk 07-22-2009 04:40 PM

Eh... they look funky. It's too bad they can't just add these in instead of redoing the old ones. The body types(shapes) we have right now look fine.

When I logged on, my pirate on test looked the same he did the last time I logged on. Does anyone think this means they could let us keep the body types for pirates we already made before this update?

Also, is it just me or do the necks look weird with these enw pirates? To me it looks like the heads just don't match the bodies. Maybe that's because they only changed the body and not the heads.

Eliza Creststeel 07-22-2009 04:42 PM

Well, the bodybuilder guy style was a little too cartoonish... refinement is fine. So, will this effect your current one? Eliza will have buy all new clothes if that's true. The old ones might not fit anymore.

I can agree there. I never really like the bigger male body type. It was way too unrealistic. Also the tiny wrists on the females. How in the world do they hold a cutlass with those wrists?

Sven Osymthe 07-22-2009 04:48 PM

I logged on to my main pirates on test, they appear the way they did before this minor update. Could mean we all have different body types than the new comers!

What happens if you clear out the cache folder in your Pirates Online folder under Program Files? The body types for your current pirate may still be cached.

If not... well that sort of stinks. Some pirates may want the new body types. I'd welcome the change for Sven or Adelie really.

Davy Keelhawk 07-22-2009 05:09 PM

ya doc grog should be able to do plastic sugery........... for a price :D which is how wed be able to change our body

Sven Osymthe 07-22-2009 05:09 PM

I forgot my [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags. And that could be, i'll try it sometime.

wmah 07-22-2009 06:55 PM

I did notice the bodies change on test. The pirates I made a couple months ago are much thinner in the waist than the new ones I made just days ago. I agree they should have just added newones at left the old ones as more options.

Maybe another idea is to make it so we can change our body types. But not be able to change the gender of the pirate, that would have to stay the same.

If so... well that sort of stinks. Some pirates want to keep what they had, those that want new ones can start over again if they want new ones that badly!
What im really wondering is, who complained about this? Why are they spending time on THIS?

I think this is what happens when they get flooded with ideas/suggestions.
All the easier ones get picked out, take all their time, and there is never time left for the worthwhile harder requests.

I agree, they should add new bodies types as additional options (do not change existing). Would be nice for us to take our pirates to the "gym" and change their body types if we desired.

Aliese 07-22-2009 08:29 PM

Ugh...I do NOT like the new bodies! They're even thinner than before. The waist is straighter, but they're basically rails through the hips. The profile's changed, too...

I just want my old (original) body back. You know, the one with polygons. :blink8:

But but.. it looks like my pirate may have finally put some meat on his bones! I'm so lanky... I must have scuuuuuuuuuurvvy! :pirate91:

LoL I just meant the female models. ;)

Obviously they have all of them, though, so why not let us choose? Frankly I think it's pretty stupid for D to change them at all - we picked them for a reason, right? Or, do they think I made a mistake when I chose what was, at the time, a relatively normal/healthy looking body, and that I must have wanted something really skinny instead?

And seeing as we have settings for everything else, why not the pirate models? If they're worried about lag that's fine, but at least let me see my own pirate in all her polygonal glory.

Dr. Zeppers 07-22-2009 09:24 PM

Well my usual pirate on test, which was a fine strappin lad, ready to take to the seas, sink ships, fight undead etc...

Now he looks like hes been on vacation eating pancakes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner while sitting on his butt watching Gilligans Island reruns.

Why are they messing with pirate models at all?

It's the new content they promised!

Nelly Darkpaine 07-22-2009 10:06 PM

Maybe we should start calling it 'new DIScontent' rather than content. Who complained about avatars? More choices maybe, but geez, thats back burner stuff when players need something to do.

Now we can stand around and look, err.. different? Since I certainly can't say better.

Leave it to Disney - ask for a notor increase, they fix what ain't broken. Maybe they think that we will all get excited and forget about things when we see the loader DOWNLOADING something.

Dr. Zeppers 07-22-2009 10:08 PM

I have an idea!!!!

Lets ask them for PIRATE MODEL CHANGES!!!!!!!

(maybe we'll get new content instead)

unfortunatualy i DO get excited every time i see the downloader going....but sigh ive basically given up and movin on to other things until somebody i trust tells me theres something worthwhile on there.

Stephen O'Malley 07-22-2009 10:35 PM

Hmm........ Not liking the idea of my pirate being fat............. How dare I let Stephen O'Malley take a vacation at the golden arches...........

I submitted it as a bug to them. From my perspective, they made things even LESS realistic.

Deadpool 07-22-2009 10:44 PM

With all this talk about how pirates are being "misshapen" I fear mines dream of being in the WWE will be crushed...

Sven Osymthe 07-22-2009 10:50 PM

Leave it to Ed to still find humor in our pirates time of need... lol

Deadpool 07-22-2009 10:52 PM

I'm the comic relief it's what I do.

Kaionai 07-23-2009 08:12 AM

looks the same to me i don't notice a difference.....

Eliza Creststeel 07-23-2009 01:16 PM

I swear they altered the models slightly once before...

Eliza's... um generous endowments keep shrinking. Not that it doesn't help prevent future back problems, but you're right - did we really need this 'fix'? Like I said... she'll need a new wardrobe.

Sven Niscadae 07-23-2009 01:43 PM

Seems that some critters have been relocated in this update. I hear Dreadtooth has been crated and shipped off to the pond in Perdida Jungle, as well as a Wasp Queen has taken up a nest there as well. I did see that Dreadtooth is indeed gone from Tortuga Graveyard and was replaced with Hardtack, a Bayou Alligator Boss.

Click the image to view the full version

"Moving enemies around again??" some may groan. Honestly that there is a good thing. Why on earth was Dreadtooth in a low level area like Tortuga Graveyard? I've seen so many new players get totally owned by it. I think it's good that Disney saw a fault there and is moving enemies to areas appropriate for their levels. Perdida Jungle is indeed a good place to put Dreadtooth. By the time you get there in the Pearl Quest, a pirate should be ready to fight her.

Though I think they updated again last night. I had patched up to the 7-21 update last night and logged in then for a bit to see the new models. Then this morning, my launcher downloaded again (took it about 5 minutes). I checked my PiratesOnline folder and one of the phase files did get updated. Not exactly sure what they changed but it may have been the models again.

The Dueces discussed what they noticed with the new models is that their shape of the fronts/backs of the pirates had changed, they were all real skinny and necks were out of wack; overall disproportionate. Now this morning, I checked the Create a Pirate screen and this doesn't seem to be the case any more, at least from what I'm seeing. I cycled through each body type and saw the bodies appeared to be more realistic than last night. Honestly to me, they don't look that bad. The extremely disproportionate He-Man action figure large male body type really didn't look that good to me personally. Now that particular body type looks pretty inviting to try out.

My first pirate has/had that body type. I was looking through the bodies and my son said "Pick the one that looks like Bob" (from the Incredibles). So, that's what I did.

Dr. Zeppers 07-23-2009 06:07 PM

Well my "action figure" body type, looked hourglass somewhat, as they should be. Now it looks like an hour glass with a box for the top portion, ribs do NOT stick out like that on most of the worlds population.

lol zep that's funny ,

hope this wont affect my pirates that much i made my pirates with the 2 coolest bodies out there
the skinny and the one with a little bit a muscle (not the hulk one)
and this is really disappointing we will have no more midgets!! I will miss the funny guys they really added more movie like
feelings to the game

Well, it is still on test :)

Perhaps they will update whatever else they need to once they finalize it (for now) in the game.
