Most Enemies Defeated Competition http://piratesonline.go.com/v3/#/new...ed_competition July 17, 2009 We're looking for a few good Pirates. No actually we're looking for an entire guild of them. Strong Pirates, with a stout heart, able minds ... who are we kidding, your guild needs to be tough as nails and ready to take on the most ferocious challenge the Caribbean can offer. We need strong guilds to help turn the tide, to help face down Jolly Roger, the EITC and whatever other mayhem may be coming our way -- does your guild have what it takes? When: July 17, and running until July 26 What: We'll be looking for the guild that have defeated the most enemies, sunk the most ships and beat back the baddest baddies. Of course, larger guilds have an edge -- so if you're not in a strong guild, remember, you can join with smaller guilds or a larger one if you don't think your current guild can get the job done. Your reward, Recognition mate! You'll be featured here on the Pirates website and your guild will become legends in the Caribbean! Plus, you could play a part in future world-changing battles! http://a.disney.go.com/pirates/onlin...s_defeated.jpg PLEASE NOTE: Competing Guild Masters and Guild Officers must not have any account violations for the past 60 days. The guild should also have at least 75% of their members in good standing, with no account violations. Player Spotlight - Pretty Polly http://piratesonline.go.com/v3/#/new...t_pretty_polly July 17, 2009 This month we spotlight Pretty Polly. Polly is an very experienced level 40 Pirate that has been sailing in the Caribbean since Pirates first arrived here in the islands. Pretty Polly is a Founder who helped lead raids on EITC ships in the battle off Padres Del Fuego, but she's also willing to lend a helping hand to Pirate to complete a quest or take on other adventure. We salute Pretty Polly of the McRaging and Founders Guild. Got a pirate or guild you think is worthy of the spotlight? Tell us their tale! Include the Pirate's name, level and guild affiliation. To recommend a guild, include the guild name, number of members and make sure to tell us a little about them. http://a.disney.go.com/pirates/onlin..._spotlight.jpg Calling All Testers - Test Updates http://piratesonline.go.com/v3/#/new...s_test_updates July 17, 2009 http://a.disney.go.com/pirates/onlin...est_server.gif Just released to the Test Server - a new update to Pirates Online! |
Good luck everyone! And CONGRATS POLLY!! :D

Oh wonderful, lets encourage large guilds, and not do anything to make the smaller, yet happy and great small guilds benefit.
Geez... bigger isnt always better. I was a member of several large guilds, each I left due to excessive chattiness, and drama. Lovely Disney. (Leave your small guild!) Do pirates not know loyalty anymore? =P |

What kind of attitude does that teach our youth... Love the game, but I think their management, and PR teams are making poor decisions, and the games decreasing subscription base pretty much shows it. Edit: I wish all the guilds shooting for the honor, the best of luck!!! |
Oooh, this looks like fun. Doesn't matter if we be too small.... that just means more chains >: D
Now then, guild *whip* get to work! >: D Hehe, Good Luck Everyone! P.S. I also agree with Zep and Nelly. That article DID sound like it was saying "leave your smaller guild and join a big one to win!" |
I remember a famous quote from someone and it goes a little something like this...

Congrats Pretty Polly!!!!!!!!!!!!

No kidding... All I have to say, is when I HAD a big guild, I didnt like it as much as when my Guild was smaller, and if someone left to 'try out' another guild, I sure wasn't one to add them back.
They can keep this contest - its pretty lame. |
I'm going to toss a coin. Heads I do it, tails I skip it.
This is probably the most biased contest they've ever had. It excludes every small guild. That's practically anyone outside of the top 100 on the boards. *flips coin* *heads* There goes about a week of me leveling up my second pirate. Well, here starts the six hours a day of enemy slashing. |
I think what Disney wants is to FORCE the smaller under-dog guilds or guilds that HAVE GONE INACTIVE because off their screw ups to join with larger guilds so that the GUILDS can entertain themselves and DISNEY doesnt have too. Nice job. High 5 disney!

Now that I looked more carefully at the top picture, where did she get that hat and more importantly, WHERE'S THE CARIBBEA?
|
ROFL Where is the Caribbea?
|
with this ill never get any members this week im not entering to the guild contest my guild is 70 members looking to max out at 120 and no more
sure we are Barbary Korsairs and are awesome and super tough but i don't to destroy or overwork my guild , my guild does come online but i don't want to over work a Korsair its a bad idea lol |
Carribea XD
Disney fail |
What is this "Carribea" you speak of? :o

I find it eternally annoying that D all but said drop out of the small guilds. I've been small and large, and yes, for me I feel right at home as a Duece. But I also know there are many players who prefer small guilds. Why should D be encouraging (or even hinting) those players to leave where they are comfortable and happy, just for some competition geared toward the big guilds. Bad call on D's part.
If they really wanna do it right they should have like 3 classes of guild. Little guilds for the 75 or less, Medium for the up to 250, and Mega for anything bigger. That way even the little guilds could compete in their level, and not be encouraged to go bigger for the sake of a contest. That's a low blow even for D. Guilds are a dime a dozen. The right guild for you is priceless! D should know this. I feel sorry for them that they don't. I think they will find that few if any at all players are gonna swap guilds for this. |
Disney wasn't thinking! They have no new content for open, they know that guilds are creating their own "games" in order to keep everyone busy and active, and they saw this as an opportunity to hold a week long activity. I don't believe that they intended to say, "If you are in a smaller guild, quit and join a large guild so that you can win this." It is what they posted though.
In truth, Since this competition is for 9 days and is a guild vs. guild event, the movement of a few pirates from one guild to another, say a smaller guild to a large guild, is going to have little impact on the outcome. There are guilds out there who consistantly are in the top 5 on a daily basis, and they will continue to do so during this contest, and they will win it. I, as a Guild Master, would be rather leery of accepting a lot of new members during this week. A guild is usually a close knit group, we are all 'friends' in the game. Anyone who would JUMP guilds, just to say that they were part of the 'winning' guild for this one 9 day event is probably someone who wouldn't fit in, or stay. Likewise, anyone who would leave a guild to go to a different one just to be part of the winning team, is someone I would probably NOT welcome back. |
Good luck to all........my guild is laying around sipping rum and belching......
 |
Carribea... sounds kinda like Narnia. If they wanted to make a fair contest, they could count the 12 top contributors or so from each guild (those that killed or sank the most enemies). For instance, if the 12 top people of the Rogues sunk 5 ships, and everyone else sunk 4, they'd treat it as if the Rogues sunk 60 ships.
|
Perhaps it would be fair to measure a Guilds success by dividing the enemies killed, ships sunk, etc by the number of members in the guild, giving us an "average" per guild member. Reward guilds on that premace, larger guilds may still be at a slight advantage, but it seems it would be a bit fairer that way.
|
The only advantage of a big guild is that you may have more people online at any one time. Doesnt mean you will win though if those that are online just stand around chatting all day every day.
What if you were a smal guild of say 50 ppl but in your guild you had the top 10 ship sinkers. I wouldnt call that a disadvantage to being in a small guild. Therefore I dont think its the size, but the people you have in your guild. In McRaging we just happen to have those people that like to sink ships and defeat enemies and be top of the overall leaderboards. We are dedicated and thats what puts us at the top. We're all excited and want to help our guild to win so are prepared to sink a few more ships or defeat a few more enemies than usual just to help out. Good luck to all and may the best guild win! |

They could have done better with this contest but instead they wanted to be biased. In my opinion all Disney cares about now is the money. Entertain the guilds by putting up a contest and then rewarding them with recognition is a great way to keep us busy why they sit there doing nothing. I don't think Walt would have done that if he were here. |
I cant believe my post made it on there. Take a look at comments.

Congrats McPretty!
Ur a beast of a pirate! :buds: |
