Problem with time!

Hi,

I am new here and the clock on the bottom of my page is 20 minutes fast. Is that a known problem with this site.

Thanks.

Dr. Zeppers 06-09-2009 06:44 PM

I concur, it does appear that the server time is about 17-18 minutes ahead (based on the timestamps on posts being about 17-18 minutes ahead of my cable box (time is always synced).

Andrew 06-09-2009 06:59 PM

I really never noticed this, but the time here is 1:40, and at the bottom, it says it is 1:58

I really never noticed this....

Sven Niscadae 06-09-2009 07:02 PM

I've noticed this ever since I've been here. I've been chalking it up to an Australian-based tear in the time-space continuum. Doesn't bother me any.

Liz Fireburn 06-09-2009 07:03 PM

Hmm Ive never noticed that either.
Its 2:44 here now and for me it says 3:01

Sarah 06-09-2009 07:14 PM

Happens about every five weeks or so. Gets a reset, stays correct for about a week, then goes ahead one minute a day til it hits 22 minutes fast. I think it's EKB's way of messing with our heads ;)

Basil Dreadflint 06-09-2009 08:40 PM

I blame Sarah. She steals all the rum from the 50 bottle thread, then doesn't know what to do while she waits for the next batch. She thinks it fills up on a timer or something, so she keeps slipping the clock ahead a few minutes at a time.

And yes, I've noticed it for the entire year or so I've been using the site. I use it to my advantage.
I get to work by my local real time clock, but I leave work by the POF clock! It gives me 18 minutes that I can use to beat the rush hour traffic. (Upsets me when it gets fixed every 5 weeks or so)

Erich Uchiha 06-09-2009 08:47 PM

The whole year i've been on this site, I have never even looked at the clock... lol

swashbuckler II 06-09-2009 11:15 PM

I noticed it a long time ago, I never saw it right tho.........

Juliana Maria 06-09-2009 11:32 PM

I've noticed that too. If you look at your profile it will say your current activity and then say you did it 20 minutes into the future.. i guess we all have time travel abilities ;) hehehe

Jack I 06-09-2009 11:39 PM

Jack_I tries to explain this to the best of his knowledge...

If I remember correctly, it's an issue with updating vB, during the site downtime or something of that effect, the time tends to stop until the site is turned back on, resulting in the time being off a little bit off.

Yes, it's an issue with vB itself. Ever since the US adjusted daylight savings time in the spring of '08, vB has been buggy with the time. We keep trying to adjust the clocks but vB time bug still keeps effect us. One of these days, they'll get it fixed. Till then, we have to keep manually adjusting the clock on the server to correct it.

Batleth 06-12-2009 05:07 AM

I got Nick to fix the clock. It'll probably be off before too long, but fixed for now.

jessiemel 06-12-2009 07:49 PM

OK! It's fixed! Thanks for all the responses!! It was fun living in the future!!! LOL!

Basil Dreadflint 06-12-2009 08:23 PM

Awwww, noooooo! I really really did use the POF clock as my "go home from work" clock. Now I have to stay at work the extra 18 minutes. Put it back, please.

Wow, that my friend, is a very good idea. I can tell my boss that I'm on my blog site because it's my alarm clock to leave work.

Lol. I'd agree with you but I can't because most computers have clocks in the bottom right hand corner. You can't exactly use that excuse. Lets think of another. :D

Now if only we can use our voodoo powers to keep the clock right.

Batleth 06-15-2009 01:59 AM

Finally got the time and day fixed. Seems we got a day ahead of ourselves.:laughks2:

Bad side is that some threads that have been posted to today, are going to have some posts out of order. No way to fix this now. Just have another few drinks and rum:buds:

Cannonfury 06-15-2009 04:13 AM

POF is glitched....strange

Seems no matter what I post, it never updates the recent thread posts in side bar. Its still showing a post made by Basil...that he posted 5 hours ago, followed by posts that other people made before him on other threads.

Sven Niscadae 06-15-2009 04:23 AM

Nick fixed that issue with the time on the server... but set it for Aussie time - so today's posts got changed to tomorrow (since they're in the future and all). So he fixed it again. So... now it's today. Unfortunately any posts that were posted before that last fix are posted tomorrow. Tomorrow will be today when it gets here and all should be fine after tomorrow when today is today. Don't bother clicking New Posts because it'll be stuck on tomorrow until tomorrow.

Another side effect will be that your replies will probably show up BEFORE the post you are replying to. Try using the "Today's Posts" link under Quick Links. Then go down a page until you reach the current time.

It'll all work itself out after tomorrow when posts aren't intermingling with each other.

Pass the rum!

MacIronhawk 06-15-2009 04:31 AM

Date skipped to June 15:

If anyone sees this thread, please post.

I posted something similar to this on TTC but the thread disappeared.(wasn't deleted by a mod.)
Any time I post my post isn't at the bottom like it should be. It ends up some place in the middle of the thread. I've tried to address this problem but it's impossible because it goes to the bottom instead of under the stickies.

Also, the date has been skipped to June 15 and when I post it says today. I know it's supposed to say that but if other posts say the 15th then that means today is the 16th when it's really the 14th.

I hope someone sees this because it's a weird problem that just takes away anything user friendly to do with the posts.

All I know is its' supposed to be 12:18 a.m right now...

The Skirata Clan 06-15-2009 10:32 AM

Is it me?

What is going on with the site? I can't PM, it says that I can PM's have to be at least 30 sec apart and that I have to wait 357654 seconds to do so. Then my posts are posted in weird places. I posted a greeting to Ale something ( can't remember the full name sorry) and it was posted number 2... between posts that were made yesterday. Then I posted at The Rogues thread and the post never showed. Am I being Moderated? Did I do something wrong? If so, can't some tell me what was it? I assure you I had no idea I was breaking a rule. Sorry.

EDIT: OK now, I'm loosing it... I guess I need some sleep? I started a new thread with this post? Was It moved?

Sarah 06-15-2009 11:24 AM

You didn't do anything wrong. The server re-set shot us all into the future and landed us somewhere in Australia...

Posts that were made yesterday were time-stamped 15 hours ahead, so until we catch up with ourselves, things will look a bit out of wack. Have another mug of Grog, it will all be better soon ;)

I think cause several people made threads or posts about it, they moved it all into one thread.

The Future Conan?

League 06-15-2009 05:52 PM

I've noticed the time being farther ahead--it'd drive me crazy scanning the forums from the mainpage to see if someone updated a thread. Anyway, I'm just testing it out here.

It's a few seconds to a minute and 59 seconds ahead: nothing I can complain about.

On a slight update, I posted a post and a screen came up, much like the one when you log in, saying you'll be redirected (in this case, directed back to your post). That was strange. As well, two posts came up under me that seemed to be out of chronological order, and posted earlier and later--I think I read them earlier, but their time was after mine, by 7 or so hours. Check the Skirata thread in the ideas section to see what I mean.

Oh, and the update didn't affect what time we see other people's post as, did it? If someone is in the Pacific Time zone and they post at their 6, do I in the east see it as 9?

Juliana Maria 06-15-2009 07:31 PM

Trouble with "New Posts" Link

For some reason whenever I click on the New Posts link I get this:

This shows up on my phone as well.. does anyone know what's going on?

There was a time warp with the server re-set yesterday.

Things should be back to normal by this evening.

Until then, todays posts are either yesterday or tomorrow, and show up intermingled with tomorrows or yesterdays. If you see a post dated before 2 days ago, then it is correct.

Today just didn't happen, which is a good thing cause I hate Mondays!!!

Actually you got it all wrong Basil. Yesterday was today, and now today is today and yesterday. Tomorrow will just be tomorrow. So really, Monday happened twice! :laughks2:

Yep, yet another issue with the server reset. Like Zilly said, it shall all be fine in about 5 hours, give or take a few minutes. (10PM EST)

Just for future reference, here are the bugs that are acquainted with the server reset.
  • All timers, such as the PM timer, will be messed up until we return to normality.
  • If you post in a thread with a post from yesterday before the reset, and the time on it is later than the time you post, your post will appear above theirs
  • New Posts is showing posts from yesterday, since they were dated today.
  • Recent posts is also showing some posts from yesterday, as they were dated today.

It has caused a number of bugs on the forums though. Anything that has a timer that you tripped earlier today, will have to wait till time catches up tomorrow for you to be able to do that again. Some threads will contain posts out of order. Anything time related will be fixed tomorrow once we catch up. There's nothing we can do about this now but wait it out.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

When the sites go back to normal will the posts will be fixed?

As noted above - all posts after 10pm (EST) will return to normal - but for now:

Those posts will not "rearrange" to the correct date - as the system has posted them with incorrect timestamps (all posting will return to normal soon though :D )

jason davy 06-15-2009 11:18 PM

This seems like a good time for me to say "I'll take your word for it" and just wait it out - leaving the confusion for someone else.

:)

Good news everyone. Finally hit the 88mph mark in the Jules Verne Train, we're officially back to the present. :laughks2:
