Pvp and SvS - Like it or Not?

Do u like pvp i dont people ruined it with voodoo and in SvS the only ships there are are huge war ships who show no mercy.

Juliana Maria 04-22-2009 09:10 PM

Aye, they be a good way to pass the time. I like em.. when played fairly that is.

jason davy 04-22-2009 09:13 PM

I said "maybe" which I took the liberty of translating into "sometimes."

mlratto 04-22-2009 09:34 PM

don't do PvP...no iterest at all. Love SvS but in it's current state is unplayable.

Liz Fireburn 04-22-2009 09:40 PM

I love SvS, its mainly all I do when I play now. PvP I dont really care much for.

Aaron McEagle 04-22-2009 10:02 PM

Im not big on SvS.... I know the best of the best sailors are though! And pvp i like just not when ppl have to use there little dolls.... (GO SVS... KEEP UP THE GOOD SAILING MATEYS!!!!) :thpirategc9:

C Dog 04-22-2009 10:15 PM

I WOULD like PvP if they fixed all the bugs with it..

AdmiralSavvy 04-22-2009 11:21 PM

I like both.
For SvS, I like being able to sink other players' ships, (I like competition, what can I say? Hehe). The Privateer part seems a little historically accurate, which I welcome in a pirate game. The need for strategy and a decent, well-planned build is nice, makes SvS more challenging. :degen:
I hate when people resort to cheating though...
PvP, I PvP whenever I can. I abide by the unwritten, "No tonics, blades only, jumping permitted" rules unless something else is allowed. It's pretty fun, especially against guildmates and friends, but it's become more difficult thanks to the glitches.

Cannonfury 04-22-2009 11:53 PM

I like svs :)

Swash 04-23-2009 12:29 AM

For the record I hate both for multiple reasons, but the main reason is Cheating.

salty 04-23-2009 12:57 AM

I said absalutly NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Skirata Clan 04-23-2009 12:59 AM

Glitches or not Privateering is OK in my book. I like to go gun blazzin' kamikaze style!

Bubba Bunny x 04-23-2009 01:13 AM

I like both, but SvS is my big fav. I love the challenge, and it's fun to have a huge crew and interact with other players. I think both games are fair, but unfair when someone uses glitches. I don't mind dolls at all in PvP because I can always unatune the enemy player by dagger. If someone uses tonic, then I use a tonic >=)

Will Badbreaker 04-23-2009 01:36 AM

I don't care for PvP (mainly because I'd stink at it lol), but SvS isn't too bad, though gets pretty laggy for me on busy servers. It isn't as much fun though when there are cheaters.

The Count mentioned about war ships being a problem, but actually it depends what you are going against it with. If you have a little sloop with full crew that can be difficult for a war ship to hit with no crew.
So number of crew and how you drive your ship matter more than having the biggest ship.

Your Gladiator 04-23-2009 01:43 AM

i like both

Maximvs 04-23-2009 01:53 AM

I'm a maybe...

PvP needs work in the balence department... it would be nice for example if Dolls would only stay attuned for 30 seconds for example - so they could be used for attack but not the only weapon of attack, and if options could be set up on the screen for play (like a series of checkboxes which you could select what weapons to allow or tonics)

SvS needs work in the glitch department... I enjoy SvS but it seems a bit unbalenced and the glitches make it almost impossible to play fairly.

These could be big draws to the game, but in their current state are only mild amusement with a few friends that you can trust to 'play fair' with at the moment...

Li Wildtimbers 04-23-2009 02:13 AM

SvS yes i do like it. It is a fun guild event to do when you can get enough guild mates to join ya.

PvP no too many peeps abuse this and make it no fun for others. And I really dont like the random PvP invites that I get from total strangers.

Crazypirate 04-23-2009 11:52 AM

PvP and SvS were alot more fun before they came out with the skill retraining now everyone has pretty much the same skills maxed instead of it being a wide variety.

Well stated.......:SkullBullet1:

skullduggery bones 04-24-2009 07:46 PM

PvP or SvS?

Hmm I think the question needs to be rephrased lol
Do you like PvP or SvS........... Yes , no or maybe??
I cant answer that because I need the option 'I prefer SvS'
I rarely if ever PvP as I'm really rubbish.
But give me a ship....................

Savvy has the right mind, SvS can be sorta historically correct, but the fun factor should be modded up. I'm not sure if Lag has been fixed up so good since I was last on, but that sorta made me want to quit the ship PvP altogether.

PvP is also very fun when you get a good enemy, I accept defeat and I also love defeat, gives me time to correct my movements in battle by training. I cannot stand Dolls or glitches in the Battles though. There is a giant difference between a fair match and a doll vs. doll match. Doll vs. Doll is button clicking.

I didn't join a DvD match to battle in, after all, it just goes by level and skills on the doll there, not movements or true power. I do not mind using a doll to heal a friend who got tripled on in a 2 on 4 battle, but that's a whole different story. Dolls should be used for the right reasons, not to make a cheap PvP win.

Andrew 04-25-2009 06:12 AM

I would prefer PVP...There is cheating in both, but its more obvious in SVS, and occurs alot more.

Miss Hexsilver 04-25-2009 05:20 PM

I used to love PVP; used to as in pre-SVS updates. Ever since the addition of SVS and the boss enemies, the lag has become ridiculous. I do not mean in game freezing but rather the delay and people flashing across my screen ><

Jack Sharkbane 04-26-2009 12:00 AM

If played fair, and prepared for, I like 'em both.

I like PvP-only-swords -no-tonics kinda things. anything else? Eh, throw it overboard, Mr. Gibbs.

SvS? If I got a good enough crew and well prepared for it. AND if me crew follows orders :D

Eliza Creststeel 04-28-2009 08:12 PM

Shouldnt you have made the two items separate answers?

PvP
Ship v Ship
Neither
Both

Not big into both. Too many people fudge, cheat, or whatever... and I get too anxious in Ship v Ship. I don't think I'm bad at SvS - just hate being anxious playing a game... LOL

Crazypirate 04-29-2009 10:33 AM

Still trying to figure out where D posted the pvp rules I keep hearing about?

Pirate Bood 04-29-2009 02:15 PM

aye love em both, even with the challenge of people who play them in ways that may seem unfair.

Rackat 04-29-2009 04:31 PM

Since there was no option of "It's not as much fun as falling down stairs", I went for Maybe. I loved SvS when it first came out, but as it is it is not fun.

Andrea 04-30-2009 04:00 AM

I love to PVP, but I get super annoyed when the other players cheat.

pirate_black 05-02-2009 03:51 PM

hey there I am pirate_black nice to be friend with ye pirates

pirate_black 05-02-2009 03:58 PM

does anyone noes were can I find a quest. I am level 17 and finished pirate life and clothing fit for a pirate?

Dr. Zeppers 05-02-2009 06:35 PM

The attitudes of most in these competitive forums leaves alot to be desired.
With 'competition' tends to come players that show off, brag, boast about their abilities (which mean nothing to me.. pure dribble IMO)
Despite my success in such venues I left highly competitive shooter games to play POTCO to avoid such action and attitude.

I dislike cheating even more so... as it completely ruins PvP and SvS when its taking place.

From what i've read.. seems that Max is pretty close with the 'needs balance' idea.

I read about people complaining about people using voodoo, etc.. and well to me trying to eliminate these options is taking away from the game. All weapons should be allowed, or it should be something that can be controlled when initiating the match that is agreed upon by all players, not just a gentlemans(or womans) agreement, but something that can be set/controlled in the matchup system itself. If I were into the PvP arena, I would definately want to be able to use all the weapons the game gives you. Being a gamer from the shooter arena originally, I have been in many competitive games when my opponent had high powered weaponry, and I had little more than a pistol or knife. You learn strategies to make them work! ;) Also.. theres the fight fire with fire approach. They use the doll, you use the doll.. I dont see an issue there. If you chose to develop your cutlass, and not the doll, and an opponent uses their doll to beat you, it wasnt them cheating. It was your choice not to develop doll that cost you.

Crazypirate 05-02-2009 07:51 PM

I completely agree Zep not sure where some players got the idea its cheating to use doll, nades, staff. That you should only use blades. We are pirates so whatever nonglitch way you choose to fight should be acceptable.

jason davy 05-02-2009 10:37 PM

I agree with Zep too - you're given a variety of weapons, you may as well use them. I can understand why dolls can be unfair - dolls usually means running around like a chicken with its head cut off, which of course can present a problem even if both players are using dolls.

As far as staffs, nades, pistol, I don't understand how any of them present an unfair advantage. I think Zep put it quite well - if I want to use it, I've trained it and it's not my concern that my opponent may or may not have.

The no tonics "rule" is nothing short of laughable IMO.

Anyway, I tried PvP for a spell and gave it up rather quickly. It's not for me, and I doubt it ever will be.

I never understood allowing tonics in PvP in the first place.... why they just don't "disable" tonics while in PvP surprises me... it solves that whole issue :)

Exactly. Theoretically, both players use a tonic, they both regain the same amount of health, the fight is prolonged but the outcome is unchanged.

On another note, the one thing I do like about PvP is the fact that the ammo used returns after the fight. At least that's how it was last time I played... which was a good while back...

If they were really smart - they could go one step further with this and make the system:
- Equal Weapons: Match only those with the same weapons in a match, so if your missing Dagger or Staff for example - you wouldn't end up with anyone with those weapons
- Equal Power: Set all weapons to One Point options befor starting a match, then give 30 seconds to all players to put extra points where they want - it would be interesting to see what combinations people choose without hurting their "everyday weapons points" configurations
and still my favorite:
- Equal Options: Allow the PvP "maker" a series of check-box options in making the game before start to choose what weapons and other options are allowed in that PvP :)

Bubba Bunny x 05-04-2009 01:33 AM

I dont understand when people say,"no tonics, dolls, or staffs"
Why should I follow them when that is THEIR rule, that they made up. It's not a rule in the game of pvp. There is no reason for me not to use my tonic, doll, what ever people complain and bicker about, in pvp. I would like it better if the creators of POTCO made rules in pvp, and not people making up the rules for it.

zenbot 05-31-2009 07:37 AM

I like them both
What I like about SvS is you can repair the ships :P

Your Gladiator 05-31-2009 05:57 PM

i like both i like to own people in pvp LOL and its fun to sink other pirates in svs!

Superbob94000 06-16-2009 12:29 AM

I hate SvS! The only ships to fight are giant ships that show no mercy! PvP can be fun, but only if it's fair.

Stephen O'Malley 06-16-2009 02:20 AM

I love SVS, but I hate PVP.

Bug 06-16-2009 10:46 PM

I am really not interested in playing either so if you happen to ask me don't take it personally if I say no OK!
