Prepare to Swab the Deck!

We're excited to introduce a brand-new weapon -- the Cannon Swab! It may look like a giant cotton swab but this harmless looking weapon is deceivingly powerful! In addition to helping you clean your ship (you've heard of "swabbing the deck"), the Cannon Swab can be used to significantly slow down your cannon attacks and reduce waxy buildup. To acquire the Cannon Swab you must first finish the Cannonball Quest Run. Using the Cannon Swab will earn you a Cannon Loading Skill. Here's how it works:

To use your Cannon Swab at sea, follow this simple 6 step process:

1. Address the cannon for inspection. For example, "Greetings Mr. Cannon, I will now inspect you." Once you've addressed the cannon, make sure the cannon is clean, and empty (this goes without saying but never stick your head inside a cannon). To clean the cannon, "swab" the bore. (To find the bore, refer to the owner's manual that came with your cannon.)

2. Pack your charge using the Cannon Swab. Do not "double load" the cannon, as double loading the cannon will make a MUCH louder and MUCH larger explosion than a regular single load.

3. Load black powder into the barrel using the Cannon Swab, making sure to push the powder all the way into the bore. To see if the powder is set -- a torch or match can be used to help illuminate the cannon bore (You may want to get your first mate to do this ...).

4. (If you or your first mate are still alive after step 3) Load the charge and the cannonball, again using the Cannon Swab. (Be careful not to drop the cannonball on your foot. If the tip of the Cannon Swab gets caught in the cannon, use Doc Grog's Cannon Crud Remover® to clean it.

5. Make sure the area in front of the cannon is clear and that Jack the Monkey hasn't crawled inside (or don't). Swing the Cannon Swab in a circle above your head, yelling, "Preparing to fire the cannon! Preparing to fire the cannon!" (Remember, during battle, it is proper Pirate etiquette to do this three times.)

6. Using the igniter, light the fuse to fire the cannon. Now secure your first mate and any other loose articles that may have shifted when you fired a double-loaded cannon (because we know you didn't follow Step 2).

To attack Navy Guards and other NPCs using the Cannon Swab, set the weapon in attack position and begin swabbing!

Other great uses for the Cannon Swab:

- "Swabbing" the deck

- Polishing barnacles

- "Bonking" Navy Guards and EITC soldiers on the head

- Limbo contest during long sea journeys

APRIL FOOLS....rite?

At first I thought this was an April Fools Joke.....yet it is posted on the Grog Blog.....are we being bamboozled? LOL

Um duh... of course its a joke.

You THINK they have added something NEW?

We would only hope they did.....I'd take a cotton swab over nothing. Bonking soldiers over the head sure beats flipping coins. Unfortunately I was being facetious.....

If this is the best they can do we are all out $79.99 this year.

Every other game I play has at least one new quest today.
This is really kinda sad.

Well......the time they spent typing that up and posting to the web could have been better spent elsewhere. I thought we'd have a mini-quest or something new today. Looks like the joke is on us.....literally. :piratetongueor4::piratetongueor4:

I love how people are actually asking where to find the quest... This is great LOL..

But yes I agree, I wish they had put the time into making a mini quest or in game joke opposed to typing that up. Really hoping the Kraken would have been out by now.....

Can some HARD CORE geek type figure out how to get ahold of these guys directly and give them some of our minds?

Something besides re-designing the islands. (Mini-quests, more tattoos, more clothes, new ship designs, ship customizing, trading post, new story chapters, etc...)

I appreciate that potco has a sense of humor, plus if they hadn't done an April Fool's Joke everyone on the forum would have been moaning "Why didn't they do an April Fool's joke?"

I'm also pretty sure the guys working on the site aren't also developing the game. Plus, they've already said that game performance is what they're working on now - why we'll see a new Padres any day now (it looks awesome on test btw).

New content is next (an Inventory system, I think). A better inventory system means more items - and hopefully new story quest tied to those items. :piratetongueor4:

Give them a break people, it's April Fool's day - it's in good fun, not meant to offend anyone wanting new content. Plus, how often do you see Disney try and do something unique like this that pokes a little fun at themselves? Never. I want content as much as the next person (it's why I pay for the game) but the thought behind the joke (and the joke) is appreciated - and funny!

wow, the cannon swab is so awesome, and has many skills,

Combo skills:
Bonk, Bash, stab, and twist

Usable skills:
Tickle, Super bonk, and clean

Passive: Clean (increases pistol, cannon, grenade attack by 25 for every skill point made in a slot)
Cannon wax (increases defence by 10%)

I like this weapon because, Not many people have it, its a very long quest. after about 10 min, only 1% done, some tasks require the level 40+ ships. Another part of the quest needed sea monsters, so I went wandering off, and davy jones crew counted as sea monsters. The level cap for the weapon is 20, and I dont recomend the swab for combat. Its wierd how fast it reloads a cannon though. Anyway, overall, this is a good update, Way to go disney!
Edit: The tips of the swab matches your hair color, so mine is green =P

I never said it wasn't funny.....but I do think they could have added a mini quest or event as other online games do. Or even some type of joke in the game itself. Come much would it have taken to have an NPC say something off the wall and then say "April Fools!".....no matter as tomorrow this is all history.

I seen a video of the new Padres on Youtube. don't have a Link, but just type Pirates Online New Padres. Sohlud be good for you guys who may want to join back, unfortunately, it'll take more than a few islands for me, sorry... BTW, I'm no longer going to quit, I actually like the New Padres, I'll learn to cope with the others.

Ok, don't get me wrong, but I'm mad at Disney. they go through the trouble of actually thinkin' up the joke, writing it all down, posting it, but they don't seem to have the time to actually update POTCO. nice.
