Pirate Names - Can't figure Disney out
Beats me...
I've seen some incredibly risque names on there, and some incredibly violent ones, along with copyrighted character names allowed - but, I put in for 'Verilee Tickles' on the test server, and am told to come up with a new name. We tried for Captain Tickles, and Verilee Tickles, and they said no. Go figure. No perverted meaning, just a funny name for two pirates. Geez Disney, lighten up and go back to monitoring some existing names. Anything with 'Blood' is ok, Skull... sure! Oh well.. Back to the drawing board.... |
When they reject a name, I REALLY wish they would say which guideline it was, that caused the name to be unacceptable. IDK, some consistency would be nice. Did you try "Verily Ticklish" or "Captain Verily Ticklish" or "Captain Ticklish"? Maybe they just didn't like the spelling...
|
I know supposedly they don't allow any "Captain"s yet there's a Captain Walter, go figure. They've turned down all the Captains I've asked for yet they approved someone else. That could be the issue with that, but like Ed said, maybe they just didn't like the spelling on Verilee Tickles.

Captain Enzo Thatch (open) Captain Joseph Lioncourt (test) I'm really not sure what the ultimate deciding factor is when they decline a name...but I've seen plenty of subjective ones. :skull: |
Yeah, they don't allow any captain names anymore, or commodore names, or ANYTHING with "a title." I can't even COUNT how many captains and commodores etc I have seen in the game so it must be a newer guideline. Personally, I find it idiotic. If there's already so many captains etc, what the heck is the point of denying them now?! I was rather upset when about 10 of my "captain" names were rejected. (That was before I read the new guidelines.)
EDIT: Here are a few guidelines that I find ridiculous copied directly from the Disney site. No names with titles already in them. For example: Captain Anne, Mr. Smith No non-English words (They rejected "Salvador") No personally identifiable information. For example, you can't use your own name (I used my own name, how do they know? And if they do, how would anyone else know it's your real name?) No religious names (Normally I wouldn't think this was dumb, but I think Disney has a very loose interpretation of "religious names.") |
Those are very old guidelines, they just haven't ever been consistent in their application of them. (It is hard to make those judgment calls, after all.) Who knows, maybe the "Captain" names you requested were rejected for an entirely separate reason.
|
seriously who cares what name is in game? unless its cussing or perverted. Its a DISNEY game...sooo why cant people have disney character names? silly if u ask me....copywright? who cares we arent making money off of having a pirate named after something in tv or music. Maybe im wrong, idk.

I don't even try, gave up long ago after everything I sent was regected with no reasons.
Did though annoy me seeing one of those requests as a new pirate on test a week ago. |
You can't have a name that an npc has. I wanted to base 3/4 test characters on test characters, creating exact look-alikes (including the vanishing Bo Beck). Before you are even done submitting a character with a shared name, it will say you can't do it (that is, upon clicking 'Finished').
I have a character named Timothy Dartan though, the gypsy boss (well, not yet really, as the name still needs to go through). I wonder if these names can be submitted on the second and third tries though: who knows? Anywhoo, I think that if you resubmit those names, they'll probably go through. __________________________________________________ _____________ On that note, does that mean you can't have a character named Cassandra? |

Well, we tried for two - Captain AND Verilee... either way, it sucks.
Both were denied. So we are back to the drawing board for two names that clearly go together. |
Maybe you could ask Lucinda if the star alignment/moon phase is favorable to POTCO naming your newest pirate baby...If she says no, then try asking Valentina, ...Fabiola, ...Romany Bev...
|
I hate when a name isnt approved... especially when you dont know why. No pun intended, but it kind of takes the wind out of your sails when you created a pirate with a name in mind. Now I have two level 13's who remain nameless and Im totally uninspired. LOL
Wondering if I should resubmit the same names and see what happens... |

Otherwise, any ideas for 'pair' names that would be approved are welcome folks!!! Name our pirates!!
|
I can tell ya Fafhrd and Gray Mouser were out right refused before, likely the copy right issue there.
But I know I also was refused on this other that no way could be related to copy right. This is a name I saw the other day, so re-trying, the worse that could happen its rejected again. Maybe tell ya why this time, haha. |
Well, that's the rub, isn't it? They don't ever say why a name is rejected.
Sorry, your pirate name was rejected because (check one):
I mean, it can't be so hard for them to generate SOME response. I gleaned the list above from them so it can't be difficult - they already have it. |
hmmm..?
Well,.. not to simplify the frustrations,.. for I can certainly understand the disappointment. The consistency of such details needs to come into view.
For the record, Test is a different division and Office all together. What you will find in administration on Test is completely different from Open administration. Most likely, that is why one allows particular options and another may not… I am hopeful the new content on the way will overshadow your frustrations and perhaps cause them to disappear all together! Best Regards, -Achilles ( *** = :) ..hehe Edward... now you comment on the content ? |
Resubmitting names can work. I've done it on Open with Piper Too, and on Test with Sawyer. Now, don't ask me why they denied them at all (Sawyer was denied twice before being accepted...), but in any case, it can work.
If you're trying to get a name through that's iffy for some reason, though...I wouldn't necessarily push it. ;) |

I wonder if someone has tryed to submit, and no offence to anyone, Adolf ******

On TEST, every name rejection should be countered with a report, pointing out that the rejection message does not say specifically why the name was rejected. But I understand people's reluctance to do that...the people reading the reports are probably the same people approving the names. |
Well, the funny thing is, our names come from a funny thing having to do with my 4 year old. LOL
He likes to play pirates with his foam swords, and my other half is always 'Captain Tickles' LOL So if Disney only knew... they likely wouldnt have an issue! I just came up with Verilee as a fun 'Mrs. Tickles' name! LOL Oh well.. perhaps we will try em again! |

Greetings Mates,
the response i was trying to project was... 1) I agree, some consistency would be helpful, on both test and open. Name approval consistency we can depend on. 2) I thought someone stated why one name could work on Open and then not on Test. My response of “for the record…” was to lend the fact that they are different divisions as well, added input given to help give some understanding as to why inconsistency may be evident in regards to this thread topic and arena as well…? (I hope I assisted in adding some clarity and not confused it, forgive me if the latter was so) |

It Just Depends...
I think it all just depends what person is working at the time you send in a name, and how busy they are at that point in time. My main pirate I play the most, Larence Tuppington was sent in as a name request of Lawrence Tuppington. When my name came back okay, the "w" had been removed. I know the name was not a typo because I spent about 20 minutes of thinking trying to come up with a real sounding and original pirate name. I now have to live with Larence, and deal with rude people telling me my name is spelled wrong lol. Larence is an actual name that does exist i found out after a Google search.
Side Note: I have a fourth pirate slot I am constantly creating pirates for and deleting trying to make them look like King of The Hill characters... You can not use the name Dale Gribble at all, but after 3 times his alias Rusty Shackleford was accepted, and so was the guild name Dales Dead Bug. Out of boredom I do this just to see if I can get by with it lol. While playing as Rusty, a Peggy Hill pirate came up to me and said hello, and asked me where Hank was... (I thought it was funny figured I would share). |
My boyfriend has a Sir in his, and I have created 2 Lady's. And I have a basic account with my name and my boyfriends last name that was approved so idk. I saw someone at abassa with a very inappropriate name, so I have no idea why ticklish wouldnt be approved.
|
I submitted a name for a pirate and it was rejected. The name was Jacquotte Dalahaye. It is the name of a real life woman pirate that lived in the 17th Century. Maybe because the name was French, it was rejected but there was nothing vulgar about the name. But I was very disappointed to say the least because I created her with this name in mind, now I have to try for something different.
|
We tried again.... different spellings. =)
|
Hmm, Disney is indeed a weird one with the names my pirate is named Erich (My RL first name) Then Uchiha (Which is from an anime called Naruto that I use to watch) and your able to say Uchiha without it being italized
|
It's quite strange, because my name was approved on the first try (Dann-Jacques La Puette)....go figure....
|
OK, second time is a charm. They got approved. =)
|
just keep entering the name....thats what i did it took 3 or 4 trys, but eventually they approved it lol
|
I tried for "imma poor sailor" on test and have been waiting for 3 weeks and im still swashbuckler and i cant do anything about it.

Sarah got that one approved. Hmmmm. |
The timing they accept names is odd too.
You'd think on the weekend it'd take days but for one of my guys, the first time I re-logged in it had been accepted. On Friday I made a new one and it took 48 hours. |
I had not really noticed it before, but has any one seen how many Guilds have really bad words in it? I had to submit a few names 2-3 times that were not the least bit bad, but some how they let that by???? I can't believe with all the "family friendly" stuff they keep claiming, and a person getting a warning for singing "100 Bottles of Rum" that they let guilds have racist names.

It took 8 tmes with Travis Black with no changes before it was approved so dont give up and you dont have to change the spelling everytime you submit it just keep trying!

Actually I have a Pirate with a copyrighted name. It just isn't copyrighted to anything Disney would care about. In another life I used to read romance novels a lot, and James Malory was the English Lord/ Pirate in one of the series. But what are the odds Disney cares? The author, she'd most likely be amused by that. But whatever. James Malory is most decidedly copyrighted. Anna, the second of my pirates, she's entirely my own creation. Linked to James only for the ease of my friends being able to find both my pirates by an unusual last name. Or at least unusual spelling.
I have a better question though. If we can type names of pirates, why can't we do names of ships? Where's the sense in this? I can't give James his real ship, so I have 4 Black Dragons. If Disney noticed anything or ever read books, this is a copyrighted name as well. Though for a guy, not a boat. The Black Dragon was the leading villain in the fourth generation of Tom Swift books. Interesting, yes? Waiting for the day we get to name not just the pirate but the ship! |
Okay so my post got edited and makes no sense now.... let me try to make it a little more clear: There are several guild names with the titles of racist organizations in them.

I could never believe how inconsistent Disney is with their name guidelines.
When I played toontown, I had a toon for TWO WHOLE YEARS. And one day I came on and they had taken the name away and I was called "toon" Right away I resubmitted the exact same name and it was accepted 5 minutes later and good until I stopped playing. So someone initially accepted it. Two years later someone else decided that it wasn't good. 5 minutes later someone else decided that it was. The pirate I have right now was just named using pick-a-name but hopefully the process of naming any future pirates won't be so frustrating! I don't have much hope... =P |
Well my girl-friend plays POTCO with me some times, and we just made her a new pirate to play on.... We registered her pirate's name as " Molly McButter" this is a trademarked product you sprinkle on stuff in place of butter. I couldn't believe it passed lol, it is a pretty well known product. Im still attempting to get a pirate named after one of my favorite musicians, but as of yet it either denies it, or won't let me even type it in the request box. I have found that if you enter some things it wont allow it to be even typed, but if you enter some thing before it then add a space or delete a letter here or there then re-add it differently it will let it go in. I think though it hates the word "Unknown" .... in the sequence I am using. I have successfully made about the entire cast of the TV show King of The Hill though, and created pirates that looked like the show characters lol... I am gonna keep on seeing what I can get by with.

On open I got Bonnie Parker approved which is historical.
As soon as I sent it I logged off and back on and it was approved. (: |

re-enter and they will approve......I had to try several times to get the name "the butcher" approved. I even had my other pirates name disapproved after having it approved months before.
|
LOL i just got Euca Lyptus Penguin approved on my girl character on TEST after waiting for more than a month
|
Have a pirate named: Baba Ghanoush
|
This may be a bit off topic, but I've dealt with some inconsistencies between the pirate names and D-names.
I have a pirate named Big John Salvy, it was approved first time with a small wait time. I tried to name my D-name for my linked account after John, entering Big John, John Salvy, Big John Salvy, etc etc, and none were taken, but they were NEVER approved. (I tried variations of the name for months.) I don't quite get it. |
