Going Basic

I am dropping my unlimited status. I was working hard to try to make it to 50th level before my subscription was up, but it looks as if I will be stuck at 48th. I might have made 49th, but I got a little tired of standing in the treasure room of Isla Tormenta shooting down undead as they popped up. Maybe if there had been quests for high levels ....

I have the feeling that being basic at 48th level is going to be a little more interesting than being basic at 14th level, but perhaps more frustrating in a way. Who needs to be so skilled but stuck with a rusty sabre? What is my purpose?

I think the worst part is the clothes. I was getting used to being able to dress really well. The "crude" rags I've kept are the best of the lot, which doesn't say much.

I've finally upgraded my ships to where I want them, and I won't be able to use them (sigh.)

I think you'll see less of me. Maybe when POTCO sees fit to put in quests for high-level characters, I might subscribe again.

The thing is, they aren't going to add quests SPECIFICALLY for high levels. However, they will (hopefully) the long awaited, long anticipated Second Chapter. And you can still loot Bright clothing with your Rusty Sabre.

It's a belief that being basic at a higher level increases your chances of finding good loot (it's also, in many cases, a proven fact). Maybe you should try some Tormenta raids to see what you find! There are still plenty of things you can do if you look hard enough.

Also, I agree with Nate's opinion on the long awaited second chapter, although I think they will make it available after the completion of the first chapter, which would likely give it more direction towards higher level pirates.

I'm sure I'll be around from time to time. It's fun to help out other players. However I don't think I'm going to pay out good money until such time as the product is worth it to me.

Uh, I'm Basic. You know that Crimson. I know your stated goal was to master your first pirate before your Unlimited Access expired. My first pirate is still Notoriety 49 which many find it quite astonishing: Gee whiz, Plat, when are you going to master your pirate? Yeah I know. But that tells you something about my character. I am in no hurry to get from A to B. I make the most of my time when I do have Unlimited Access but not at the expense of who I really am.

I have my card handy which cost only $9.95 at my local CVS store. I'm in no hurry to activate it. I have some real life stuff to handle still. Meantime, whenever I do get the chance to play, I see it as a wonderful opportunity to stockpile on gold and ship materials for my pirates as Basic. I don't mind when others who have Unlimited get them as soon as they want to or can. I appreciate it every time they invite me to plunder with them. I thank you, Crimson, for allowing me to sail your War Brig yesterday. That was a blast sinking those Hunters by myself. Almost did it with that SOTL but darn thing disappeared on me which made it pointless to continue. I plan to get that War Brig for my youngest and poorest pirate someday. rofl, and don't get me wrong. I plan to try it again too. I'm just nutty.

Anyway, what I'm basically [No pun intended here. It just came out that way.] saying here is follow my lead and just take your anger out on those enemies in-game. POTCO will get around to getting more quests like Nate and Hammy have told you. All of us understand your frustrations. You have every good reason to not spend your good money for the reasons stated. So be it. Won't stop others to spend theirs for their particular reasons, mine included.

I'll still be there whenever you'd like to spend time together. Enjoy the break.

I've played Pirates since the first day that the test site opened. I just recently mastered my pirate Nacho Cat, finally used my double rep from quest. There have been many times I wanted to drop back to basic, but once my grand kid discovered pirates I have kept the account going. He can only play when he is visiting me. I also keep playing because from time to time I meet ppl that I have a blast with when I play. Mostly I play now to help others, and just to goof off. Never liked sailing much, but do enjoy shooting them cannons. So, since I have just recently met you Crimson Rose, I have enjoyed the little time I had to help with some of your piratey adventures, and would be glad to help in the future, whether you are basic or unlimited. (There is no limit on fun, you know)

Exclamation

I must admit that, part of the problem was in the last week or more I was spending so much time trying to get up to 50 before my deadline that I was letting other things slide ... like work.

I told you I was addicted.

Now that I'm basic I don't feel the great compulsion to get my character out there looking for loot, weapons and ship materials. So I may not be as active as before, but it is hard to kick the habit right away.

I tried this once before, giving up my unlimited status. Three days later I was back purchasing the next month.

But the Platinum Pirate is right. There are still good reasons to hang around, and there will come a time when things may change - like a new island - when I'm sure I'll be back there with my pocket book hanging out as I beg for another month or so of electronic abuse. Some day Crimson Rose will make 50th level. (By then, of course, the cap will have been raised to 60th.)

This is not the end of ...

Crimson Rose
