By Tayseth

*IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD TO THIS GUIDE, PLEASE DO SHARE*

NOTE FROM TAYSETH: Today I am releasing the ULTIMATE sailing guide, for all your sailing needs. Davy made a good sailing guide and all, but it is kinda outdated. This is currently version 1.10. I plan on adding new chapters atleast once a week. I also plan on organizing the guide much better. But for now, stick with me. I am pretty busy at the moment, but i'll certianly get better organization and all these chapters down.

Welcome to the POTCO ULTIMATE sailing guide! In this guide, I will attempt to cover EVERYTHING that a good pirate captain should know, such as how to make good gold on the seas, Training sailing, Strategies, How to find a crew and make them happy, Ship Guide, privateering, Ship Fleets, and all of this for EVERY ship type! (Light sloop, Light Galleon, Light frigate, Sloop, Galleon, Frigate, War sloop, War galleon, and the almighty War Frigate.)

Chapters:
Strategies
How to find a crew
Gold Making
EXP making (Coming soon)
Ship guide (Coming soon)
Ship Fleets (Coming soon)
Privateering (Coming soon)

Lets get started.

CHAPTER 1: Strategies

To maximize your gold and xp, you’ve got to follow these simple strategies.

1. Swapping

Sometimes called “Royal Swapping” or “Replacing,” this popular method is used very widely by higher leveled players. When you get cargo, such as a Crate, Treasure Chests and Royal Chests will replace it. For example, if you sink a Ferret and get a crate, probably full of measly grain, but then sink a Man Of War and get a Royal chest, your crate will be replaced by it.
Keep in mind that this only happens when cargo on the ship is full, and that loot pouches, Loot Treasure Chests, and Loot Skull Treasure Chests will NOT be replaced by anything, as of May 28, 2010.

2. Level>Type of ship.

Too many people fall for this. When your hunting a ship, ALWAYS go for the higher level. I don’t care if it’s a level 99 ferret vs a level 18 revenant. Loot isn’t classified on how big a ship is, but by the level. Keep that in mind.

3. XP Milking

The slower you kill a ship, the more you damage it, the more xp you get off of it. Simple as that. However, if you have a public crew, they might not listen and just barrage the attacking ship with fury and fire.

4. Charging

When you see an attacking ship, put on full sail, and sail right by it while firing your broadsides, get a good distance from it, turn around, and let your crew (Or yourself) finish it off. This is extremely effective for Light Sloops, as they can go QUITE a distance, very fast.

4. Ram Charging

Follow the steps as charging, except use ramming speed right into the ship, and sail past it. Additionally, having gunners in the front of your ship who have explosive rounds fire as you’re charging will result in an insta-sink. This technique should be used for higher levels.

5. Keeping your distance

This is quite possibly the most popular technique for crews. Simply spot a ship, have your crew fire at it, and let it approach you. Fire your broadsides at it when it gets in the correct distance. It shouldn’t have enough time to even turn when it reaches you, especially with a good crew.

6. Flagship Farming

When you find a flagship, board it, destroy it, and find its spawn. Just camp on that spot, killing it whenever it spawns. As flagships get better cargo than regular ships, this can be very helpful.

Have any more strategies? Please, do tell in comments.

=====CHAPTER 2: How to find a crew and make them happy=====
Crews are essential in many ways. If you want to have a good time with getting gold and xp, get a crew. Crews give Crew bonuses, which can boost xp up to 50%. They can take down ships faster, and make sailing less lonely.

1. Public
Firstly, to make it so anyone who wants to can join your ship, there is a dinghy icon when you enter your ship (Its by the health bar of your ship.) You’ll notice some options.

Allow Friends
Allow Crew
Allow Guild
Allow Public

Allow friends and allow crew are automatically checked, however, if you want it so that anyone from your guild can join your ship, check Allow Guild. If you want ANYBODY on your current server to be able to join your ship, check allow public.

Note that none of these options disallows people from teleporting directly to you. If they are in your friends list, crew, or guild, they can all tele to you. Which shouldn’t be fine if you have terrible friends/guild.

2. The old fashioned way

Advertise the joining of a crew around the docks of port royal or Tortuga. You should go to Tortuga though. Don’t advertise too much because your not receiving an answer, because that’s just annoying. If you think someone is too low of a level, then don’t recruit them.

3. How to make them happy

If you don’t manage your crew correctly, they’ll leave after frustration that your such a terrible captain. Heres a few tips to stop that from happening.

1. Use the strategies I list. (Flagship farming, anyone?0
2. Treasuresense, quite possibly the most versatile skill to stop people from leaving. With maxed treasuresense, every cargofull of royals on war galleons/frigates pretty much GURANTEES +2k. And treasuresense raises the chances of GETTING a royal. If you are getting nothing but crates, your crew will leave.
3. Stay on a side. If you keep turning too much and your crew cant get good shots at all, they’ll get frustrated. But if you have a large crew, be sure to give those without cannons a chance.
4. Dying.. Nobody likes it when you die. You’ll pretty much lose almost all of your crew if you sink, especially if you happen to have 2 loot skull chests on your cargo.
5. Going after quest ships. Sometimes someone will ask if you can go after a phantom, or an ironwall, or to sink some navy ships. Even if you don’t intend to do any of that, just say OK and they usually wont notice.
6. Good spots. More ships. More gold. More XP.
7. Talk to your crew. Nobody likes a statue at the wheel.

CHAPTER 3: Gold Making

Taking ships out is almost ALWAYS to make gold. Why? Because it’s simply the BEST way to make gold in the Caribbean! In this chapter, I will tell you the best spots, techniques, and general knowledge for your ship sinking needs!

Note for unlimited, the skill treasuresense GREATLY helps. If you have charms, use them.

Light sloop, Light Galleon, Light Frigate gold making

Honestly, I don’t see any point of wasting time in any ship except war for farming. To join another ship, go to the dinghy and hit public. Choose any ship of your liking.

========Normal Classes=======
Sloop

1. The surrounding areas near cuba are great places to try. Not better than going on a war ship, but still.

2. Area by padres. Be careful, and keep your distance.

3. Area in FRONT of kingshead. Keep your distance.

5. Area behind Padres.
