Ships Question! Help me out here! :D

I have about 22k Gold right now. i have a Galleon and i dont know if i should spend my gold and get a war sloop and work my way back up....or.....should i keep saving my gold to get a war galleon or war frigate, 20-40k gold away?

What should i do??
