So far, I have focussed on my sword at the expense of other weapons. It seems to be the one weapon that is always useful.
However I get the impression that, as you get to the higher levels it's not going to be enough. Should you focus on one weapon until you have mastered it, or should you try to bring along all weapons you have available equally as you go? Are there some weapons that you can skip, such as knives and grenades? I have started a second character as an experiment. So far she only uses sword. She has made it to level 8 Rep and level 9 sword. How far will she get like that? Crimson Rose |

On my first pirate, I mastered sword first, and got round to all the other weapons later. She mastered all skills (including fishing and potions) before level 50. So that works as long as after you master sword, only use it in a dire emergency. Unless, of course, you don't mind mastering with not all skills mastered.
With my second pirate, I'm taking it a different way. All land weapons will be leveled equally, and sailing, cannon, potions and fishing are going to be done when I feel like it. All of her land weapons are at a level average of 16, and my character is level 28. You don't have to use weapons you don't like at all, I guess at the end of the day it's all about showing off to other players how much you've done. I've seen loads of players who have mastered while barely touching certain weapons, like grenade (grenade is a widely hated weapon). Sword is definitely useful in most situations, but each weapon is useful for something different. For example, it might not be best to use a melee weapon on an enemy with a ranged weapon, because they'll keep backing away and you have to chase them. Just level what you like, and decide whether you want to use a different weapon once that's mastered. There are so many ways of leveling pirates - and the way you like the most is always the best way! (post 900! ![]() |

My advice would be try and get sword and gun mastered first. They are by far the best, and what you will likely end up using most. Once those are mastered work on other weapons. If you try to upgrade all weapons equally (as I did on my first pirate) you will end up with several mildly good weapons rather than one or two awesome weapons.

I usaully focus on two weapons at a time which is dagger and cutlass, mainly cause swords come in handy up close and daggers come in handy short-mid and far range....

I know its getting to be an old post at this point but I will add... Sword is great and I use it most and with it set up the way I do can kill a lvl 50 thrall without going through the whole combo 2 time and Darkheart I can take out and still have most of my health left. So your sword should be enough esp. if you master gun or daggers for ranged. Voo Doo dolls and staff are easy and fun to lvl. Grenades stink and I don't use them .....BUT.... if you want to have a fully mastered pirate ( be honest with yourself here it will save a lot of grief later ) grenades are easier to lvl when you are lower lvl and will take forever then, if you wait till your a high lvl and decide to master them you are gonna be wishing ya hadn't
