No need for a poll in my humble opinion. I find it more of a pity when people give simple yes or no answers with no explanation as to why.

And for the record, I just learned of this glitch, as deemed/ coined by others, recently. I have seen how awful players are when it comes to sailing. I sank those hunters by myself without a fully upgraded ship, not even a war brig, because I love proving to myself what I can do before learning how that glitch works. I'm also fortunate to have a brother whom I was able, whether as the helmsman or as the gunner, took out a SOTL. Took awhile, but hot damn, it was done!

The only reason I ended up using this glitch sometimes is because I can never find a powerful enough crew to do material runs with. And yes, sadly enough, there are griefers that come on board to bug me, forcing me to dock the ship to get them away. But again, I both feel that it is not a cheat but not useful in any particular way.

Disney people, should have a fake pirate on a GM account where they hide the GM things ( skull, guild, chat, and possibly the founder so they dont stand out as much, they find glitchers, "join them", after so many times, they go up to them, and then asks them what they are doing. 90% they would say "glitching". Then - BAM - Fully Maxed out top of the line GM. They say " Glitching is against our code. You have been found for Breaking our conduct multiple times. You will now face a punishment.*"
Then a popup, like a disconnection, will come up and say you have be _____'ed for glitching/cheating/hacking.

Unorthodox? Yes. Would it work? Possibly. Would it improve game play? Yes. Even if they claim this but it isn't true, people will fear that they will be caught, therfore, will not do the glitches.

~~~~
* Something aong those lines, but not as cpu animated, and not as harsh, but with words that will stick with the player forever.
Long ago, the POTCO staff did play their own 'regular' pirates. I don't know if they do it anymore. On the one hand, your idea, Davy, might cause them to mingle with us for that purpose to root out the glitchers/ cheaters. On the other hand, they could, if they wanted to, walk into our account and watch from there while we are playing. I behave like they are doing that in fact and have been without informing us. I know that's hard to believe that they would do that given the number of players there are versus the number of staff that are available, but then again, as one of their trusted test pirates, I can easily send feedback on whatever and if it warrants their attention, they can then walk in to my account. I will happily volunteer that service for the greater good of the game.
This Edge Glitch is just a method for players to use or not. Personally, maybe POTCO can design continents along the border to curtail this sort of method. Would be nice to see the world map look similar to ours.
I am in PnC though I never use EOW mostly because I don't feel like going away from my ports. But I think it is a tactic not a cheat.
I dont see it as any different than going behind the walls to level staff or grenades. Is it a glitch yes it is exploiting a flaw in the game for unintended purposes to give a player an advantage over normal game play. Is it "cheating" thats up to each player to decide but in the end those using it are just cheating themselves out of the fun of doing it the right way. Its like some players that use macros or an auto clicking keyboard or mouse and lvl up while they arent even there in the end they are the ones missing out on the fun of the journey.
WOW!
Epic debate... My two cents worth, well I have Used and many friends would say Mastered "The Edge".
Now, obviously I prefer to get a decent Crew together and do it the "Honest" way, which I can also manage.
Funny pirates make such a fuss over "The Edge", yet those same pirates are often found "Taking Advantage" of the Server Lag on Abassa...
I've boarded Public ships on Abassa so many times, only to find a Low Level Basic at the helm. A group of Lower Middle Level Gunners. The ship doesn't even need to move, the Gunners and Navigator simply use the Lag to sink Bounty Hunters and Warships with ease...
Where's the issue taken to that? That is every ounce as much a "Cheat" or "Exploit" that "The Edge" is!
Anyone care to argue with my logic?
I personally have a theory as to why that bug happens. I'll explain in the best way I can:
Ships are always sailing forward or backward. Enemy ships will aim ahead of you in order to hit you rather than just fire at you aiming for the spot you're already on, in which case by the time the cannonball reaches where you were, you'll already be out of the way.
Of course, there is no way to sail sideways. But with this glitch, you're basically doing just that. Now, here's where my theory is. Perhaps due to a coding oversight, ships will shoot cannonballs at the coordinate you're occupying at the time of the cannon's firing, because they do not have the proper coding to target sideways movement, since through normal gameplay, it is not possible, and is not necessary to have such coding. This glitch is technically possible at any barrier, specifically the ones around islands. The only difference is that you're on the outside of that "circle" of a barrier, so it's a bit more tricky. The End of the World's circle puts you on the inside and has a much larger radius, so the length will be much more of a straight sideways movement.
Hopefully that all makes sense.
