On the Brig: Coherency?

For all of POTC, we've had the three standard ships: Sloop, Galleon, and Frigate. The Frigate class provides for battles and long treks when with a crew, the Galleon class provides us with extra cargo space so we can loot more, and lastly, the Sloop class provides us with speed and great maneuverability for fast trips and solo battles. Each ship has its own niche within its very limited spectrum.

So my questions is, how do you think the Brig will fit in with the current spectrum of ships? What niche does the Brig provide, if any? What does it bring to the table that the other ships don't (other than awesome design, though I could argue for the sloop in that thread...)? Which one of my war ships should I replace with this, if it's worth it?

Here are all the stats of the war ships to compare, just for reference:

Spoiler for Stats:

War Sloop:
Armor: 7200
Sails: 1000
Cannons: 8
Broadsides: 14
Cargo: 14
Max. Crew: 9
Max. Speed: 12 knots
Cost: 20,000g

War Galleon:
Armor: 10800
Sails: 3100
Cannons: 10
Broadsides: 24
Cargo: 18
Max. Crew: 10
Max. Speed: 8 knots
Cost: 40,000g

War Frigate:
Armor: 12600
Sails: 2400
Cannons: 14
Broadsides: 20
Cargo: 16
Max. Crew: 12
Max. Speed: 10 knots.
Cost: 60,000g

War Brig:
Armor: 11700
Sails: 1050
Cannons: 12
Broadsides: 22
Cargo: 16
Max. Crew: 12
Max. Speed: 11 knots (I think?)
Cost: 80,000g

My only conclusion just from comparing stats (which I'm hoping are correct) is that it's an upgraded Sloop. Or maybe in different terms, it is a jack-of-all-trades ship (it does every job, just not quite as well as a "specialist"). But since I cannot have a hands-on experience [yet], I'm definitely not in a position where I could comment with a definite answer.

Discuss....

The Brig is second in all charactiristics. It is second when it comes to speed. It is second when it comes to armour. It is second in cargo and firepower. In the brigs description at the shipwrights, they say the armour is spread out. The Sloop has stronger middle bits. The Galleon reinforced stern. The Frigate has a powerfull bow.

It is a jack-of-all-trades ship because of the even spread. It can be used for whatever reason you wish it to be used for. Brigs are a good mix of strength, speed, and cargo space. A perfect combination of all the other ship types.

She is a beauty in itself. I believe from what I experienced driving my Brig and a friends War Brig, that she will fit into the spectrum nicely. I can't tell you what ship to sell, whatever ship you decide to sell, the Brig will be welcomed in its place. This ship can be used if you dont know how the voyage will go (i.e. Looting, Island hopping, Sea Battles with a crew), it is not a 'specialist', but it will still do the job well. Also don't forget customization can increase the stats too.

Don't take just my word for it, wait for others to respond, this was my own opinion and others may vary, but I hope I helped a bit

I would assume that is the Muertos Moon. :psmiley35:

When you buy the brig you are kinda buying a ship that is a mix of all of them. Speed=Hull=Firepower.
At least that is what I think it is! :D

To keep it simple...It's more of a mix with sloop and frigate that it's 10 knots(sloops) and has a little more firepower than frigates. Don't forget that the stats can change by UPGRADING HULL and RIGGING and that goes dor all ships...(except for lites).

The Brig seems nice. Would get the light brig first, tho.
IDK how it will effect the current system. Pretty fast, tho. Like the fabled "Ship of the Line". Wish they sold the Black Pearl or Flying Dutchman. :D

I agree with that. :) but it also has the same cargo space as a War Frigate, which is nice. :12_1_138:

The brig is actually the best if you look at it overall. It has the most speed (tied with sloop), most firepower (more cannons overall compared to frigate), and is only second with cargo (not really much significance) and HP (only very slightly). It is in fact more maneuverable than frigates too. The only negative is the cost, but that really is not much significance. The brig is also the best for customizing and benefits most from rank IV upgrades.
