Rumours

We all remember the rumours awhile a go where people were saying "POTCO is closing" and this became the fact last month when Disney announced that POTCO is closing on 19th September.

Well now a new rumour is going around and people are saying "POTCO will be back, they need to close to move from the current server"

I am hoping this new rumour is true and not just a rumour, maybe Disney are moving away from Panda3D to a more stable server to make it more difficult for hackers and glitchers.

What's your opinion on it all?

Platinum Pirate 09-12-2013 04:31 PM

Don't believe it. Honestly, I know I can mention this in another thread about reminisce, but I might as well state it here. When I first saw the ad for this game in one of their Pirate films on DvD, I did not have internet at the time. That was in 2007. The ad was in the Bonus area of the DvD. When I finally saw it in its entirety, the first thought that came to mind back then was: Why can't that be made into a PC game? Will it ever anyway?

Fast forward to where we are today and all that stuff I experienced with my internet adventures, those questions still ring true. Disney would have made more money with that version than this online venture. They stood to build upon that with future expansions and spin offs. They still can but won't. They want Infinity to work and don't want any of their existing customers putting off that purchase for a better version of some Pirates of The Caribbean game. You can get that now with their toy box set and they will see to it that is the only way any pirate fan can play their trademark.

As for these new rumors, prove it. Show the goods. Cite your source. Otherwise, don't believe it. Just play this game while its still around. Game is set to close next week.

I have recently been in touch with Pirates online and have received these replies to them - copied as received

Me to Potco

There are people saying that POTCO is closing, but it's only closing temporary whilst it gets a major update, could you confirm that this is 100% true? I have many pirates I have not yet mastered and I would like to master all my pirates before the game closes, I am even willing to spend £20 a month to keep POTCO going, if POTCO is closing for good, could you at least consider selling POTCO to Portalus Games please.

Also you may or may not be aware but there are currently petitions online for POTCO to be saved, as there are more fans of POTCO than there are for club penguin, please rethink your decision to close POTCO down.

Who thinks the last email I received back was a bit off and that Disney are planning something and not letting on?

Platinum Pirate 09-12-2013 11:08 PM

Just sounds like someone other than Katie and rather annoyed sent a formed reply just to end any further communication.

My guess is they're receiving a lot of negative feedback and they just don't want to hear it anymore. They've made the decision to shut down the game and they're not budging on that position. I agree with Platinum Pirate - they want to herd us all towards Infinity and turn their collective backs on this game entirely.

Bubbazeke707 09-15-2013 10:54 AM

My only proof right now is that when it said Potco will be closing, I don't think it ever said forever. But right now that seems to be for those in denial that Potco is leaving.:sadmh9:

Platinum Pirate 09-15-2013 12:17 PM

Well, we can always look on the bright side, one day those in charge of handling feedbacks will be the first in line to get fired by their new boss. Don't you just love that beautiful thought? ;)
