Love the Holiday Skin

Big round of rum and kudos to the mods for the holiday skin. I think it looks fairly awesome.

Aye! I feel so piratey and festive, all at the same time! Very nice job mods! Too bad these holiday skins only last for the holidays.. I would use them all year round! lol

Glad everyone likes it! I pretty much got a crash course on how to do this while making the skin, so it's always nice to know I didn't make anything too strange and off the wall. :laughks2:

For those who don't know how to get to it, scroll to the bottom of the page until you see a drop-down list (as pictured below), and select "A Jolly Holiday" from the list.

...or, just click this shiny gift box to access the skin.

Also like the cool POF logo that came with the skin.

Too bad this skin is only around for a little while, because it's really nice on my eyes.

EDIT: One problem I have. I used the skin... but when I clicked on a button like forums, gallery, etc... the skin changed back to the port royal skin I've been using.

Is there a way to keep it on the skin?

SteamweaverJ 12-15-2009 03:36 AM

How are you attempting to access the skin? It might be that the button I posted won't allow you to stay on the skin. I did test it myself logged in and out, but it locking for me may be the simple fact that the skin is locked into my cookie. I would recommend trying to access it via the drop-down list at the bottom of the page.

If that doesn't work, I would recommend one of these as well.
  1. Clear your POF cookies, log in again, and try accessing it then. It could be that your cookie has locked itself to a single styleid, which would prevent the skin from permanently changing.
  2. Go into your "UserCP ---> Edit Options ---> Miscellaneous Options ---> Forum Skin" and set it as your default for now. That should set it as your default skin and you'll automatically switch to it each time you come to the site.

It's probably locked onto the skin, then.

Also, how exactly do you clear cookies? Also, what are cookies.(now that we're on the subject, that is) Never really needed to know what they were before now.

I like the Holidays and the skin looks pretty, but I am am still a guy that believes in The Classic look. It feels like if I was changing the SF 49ers colors.

Cookies are those "temporary internet files" that your computer always asks you if you want to clean up, and they save many things online. Site preferences, saved log-ins (not saved passwords, those are different), etc.

To clear them, follow these instructions.
  • On Firefox:
    • Go to Tools --> Options --> Privacy. Click on the button that says "Show Cookies", then on the popup you receive click "Remove All Cookies". Restart your browser.
    • If you simply want to remove your POF cookies, just put "piratesonlineforums.com" in the search bar on the popup, then click the "Remove Cookies" button. Restart your browser.
  • On Internet Explorer:
    • Go to Tools --> Internet Options --> General. Under "Browsing History" click delete. Restart your browser.
